Why do you pick on just the athletes? What about the actors (Denzel, Samuel L, Will Smith, Ving Rhames, Whoopi, Angela Bassett, Halle etc.)? What about the entertainers (Steve Harvey, Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Michael Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, etc.)?
The only problem I have with you assumption is that you assume only Dikembe and Brian Grant have done things to help our people. While there are plenty of selfish rich blacks, not just athletes, we shouldn't be saying "fuck 'em all". Just because you don't know or don't hear about them giving up money fro various charities or for various communities doesn't mean they don't. How many other NBA players have helped Dikembe's mission to build that hospital in his homeland? How much did they contribute? Not hearing about celebrity causes doesn't make them inconsiderate people. For example, for years people thought Bryant Gumbel was a "uncle Tom" who didn't give a shit about poor or middle class black people. Only when someone finally went public with the information that he has raised millions of dollars for the United Negro College Fund did that change. Now all of a sudden black people don't consider him to be what he never was in the first place.
Having said all that, there is no arguing that the well paid individuals in all various fields of life could do a better job of helping the communities that help them get paid. There is no reason any public school system should be using raggedy ass textbooks and old, out-dated computers (if any). There is no way some the parks and ball courts, where kids should be able to play, should be so run down and trashed. Athletes and entertainers shoould at least, if nothing else, be able to contribute to improving our schools. What could be more important than the education of your people and our people's future.
Just don't lay ALL the blame on the athletes...
