the philippines and they came here for the same reasons that most immigrants come, for the opportunities that are not available anywhere else. i am aware of the injustices in this nation and i've fought them in more ways than one, but i am also aware of the privileges that i have. despite the inconsistencies, the injustices, and the corruption, we have much more opportunities than any other place in the world. i've been to the philippines quite a few times, and each time i go, i realize how fortunate i am. poverty is terrible anywhere in the world and you realize it even more when you visit a third world nation and you hear the stories of what your parents had to go through growing up. we are very lucky indeed and we have to take this privilege and use it to help others. this is what i thought of during the 4th.
