As part-time faculty at UMass Boston, I've had a chance to use Prometheus, a community-based, open architecture, software platform (see http://courses@prometheus.com/product/). This platform features areas for syllabus & outlines (instruction/curriculum), projects, uploading files, messages, discussions (like okayboards), and chat (real time).

The cool thing is that we can set up a free account through the Prometheus site, with 30 students. This platform was created for educational institutions but I think what we are talking about fits the criteria. If it works out, we can find a host for the project and make it more permanent.

If folks would like to roll with this let me know as soon as possible. I'd like to set up a trial account by Monday, October 15. Also, it would be cool for each person to get with at least one other person to take on a task (and for support).
