10940, low blood sugar...

The weird thing about low-blood sugar... you would think to supplement it by ingesting more sugar. But there's a paradox here. Low blood sugar comes from the body not producing enough of it's own insulin, but if you counter that by giving it sugar, the body pulls back on insulin production even less, which results in hypoglycemia (erratic changes in blood sugar levels due to body's confusion on how much/when to produce insulin) to diabetes (low---> no insulin production in the body.)

What I've read (I'm not sure what I think about this) but in a long term sense, the best way to deal with low blood sugar is to starve the body of sugar so it figures out it needs to produce it's own insulin, and eventually your blood sugar will normalize. I was hypoglycemic for a while-- I would be exhausted if I didn't eat, and you would see me transform in under 5 minutes== raving bitch who needs sugar NOW-->passed out, can't move on the floor. Too sleepy/wiped to even talk or make decisions.. it SUCKED. (In addition to being anemic... I was a BAD vegetarian.) This continued long past ceasing the vegetarian lifestyle, because I was still intaking large amounts of carbohydrates (read: sugar). I went on the Atkins Diet (pretty much all protein, about 20g of carbs/sugars a day.. which is the equivalent of one slice of bread) for nearly a month. The first few days were a little manic, but I haven't suffered from uncontrollable blood sugar levels since.. have pretty much normalized, which is a relief. It's horrible to think every day MUST EAT NOW otherwise the whole day will be ruined and wrought with exhaustion/major headaches.
