Paul most likely would have re-signed with the Lakers because

1. its a big market
2. they have the opportunity to win this year as well as future years

He would have taken a pay cut to go to NY, so he obviously isn't only out for money. He wants to win.

There aren't many other teams that can offer him a chance at an instant championship, not to mention he is most likely upset by what just happened so he might just play the rest of the year with NO then walk afterwards.
