the basketball management of the Hornets wanted to do this deal (and they were right). the ownership didn't, because it helped a competitor while hurting their primary interest (their non-Hornets ownership) as well. it's like giving shit for free to the enemy, why do that if you can stop it? the owners got Stern to stop it here, so LA will have to find another trade partner if they want to improve.
