Posted by way2saucee, Sun Jan-22-12 11:14 AM
while I would prefer a 49-0 Niners victory, the game will probably be in line more with the 91 NFC championship game... only this time the Niners win a thriller!

I'm with you on 49-0. My coworkers were arguing how they'd rather see a close game and the niners win it out, but fuck all of that. as great as last week's game was I want the niners to blow out every team they face.
90131, niners pass rush will lead to two eli INTs
Posted by kayru99, Sun Jan-22-12 11:14 AM
niners by 5 or some other weird number
90132, someone on Sportscenter said the rain/muddy field actually works in NY's favor
Posted by Amritsar, Sun Jan-22-12 11:18 AM
LOL ..I think it may have been Mangini or some other moron. He's been going hard all week too, breaking down how to stop VD,Gore, and our pass rush; not ONCE did he flip it and show how to stop the Giants aerial attack or their pass rush.

This is World Series 2010 in the making, NY dick sucking media gonna be mad all over again

90133, RE: someone on Sportscenter said the rain/muddy field actually works in NY's favor
Posted by way2saucee, Sun Jan-22-12 11:31 AM
I'd say it would benefit the ball hawking D of the Niners.

90135, this is a tough call...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Sun Jan-22-12 11:48 AM
..i'll be the 1st to admit that i doubted the 49ers this year

not that i didn't respect their potential, but i certainly didn't see them reaching the nfc championship game. they have a solid, balanced attack on offense and an eager, hungry defense.

at the same time, the giants are a very dangerous team. while they certainly have their share of mental lapses, they have the framework to battle the best. while i didn't think they would get past green bay, i stated more than once that the giants had the personnel to get the job done. they few unknowns were the same as always:

qb
def against the run

last week, new york still had issues against the run, but made key plays @ crucial junctions that turned the tide in their favor. still, the most remarkable feat of that game was the protection of eli manning. i don't think i've ever seen a better performance by that offensive line.

somehow, i don't think jim harbaugh and the 49ers will allow them to repeat that performance and i expect this game to come down to the turn over ratio.

..and miles to go before i sleep...
90136, RE: this is a tough call...
Posted by way2saucee, Sun Jan-22-12 12:22 PM
>..i'll be the 1st to admit that i doubted the 49ers this

anyone who thought the Niners would do this well is lying. I predicted 8-8 with at least one surprise victory and several close calls against the better teams on the schedule...

same as the Packer game. Main reason I think they have the edge? Look at how many "playoff" games they've played. 1st Eagles. NE. SF. Both Cowboys games. Jets. Both Packer games. Falcons. This team has been playing for its life for damn near half a season. What's one more game?

SF fans, I have all the respect in the world for y'all and it's good to see you back on top.
This game is going to remind me of the 90 game, which is one of my favorite football memories.

5 hours is too fucking long to wait.

game. I think we'll lock down their run game somewhat in the first half but where we will win or lose this game is how we defend the short pass game. they are so patient with the run run short pass first down game. I'd like us defensively to force alex smith to have to properly air it out, make a lot of tough intermediate-deep passes. if we do that we'll take the game .

Difference.

Brees doesn't get rattled, Eli does.

You better hope Alex's carriage doesn't turn back into a pumpkin, buddy.

Ok
90166, Eli being rattled is not a calling card.
Posted by themaddfapper, Sun Jan-22-12 06:26 PM
and every QB gets rattled. Eli has shown when it counts, he doesnt.

no matter, it gets settled on the field.
90167, Eli gets mentally rattled
Posted by Anonymous, Sun Jan-22-12 06:46 PM
Drew Bree's may have bad games but his confidence is hard to get to.

Let Eli take a few hits and throw a pick and we'll see him unravel.
90168, for posterity.

lol
90170, Neither QB got rattled
Posted by Anonymous, Sun Jan-22-12 11:50 PM
I tell people I'm the realist dude on here and I'll tell it like it is.

Neither offense really clicked.

Giants got HUGE help from the 9ers special teams but hey, if you make those mistakes, you don't deserve to win and the Giants capitalized on the mistakes.

Eli has definitely improved and I'll give it o him.

I thought the 9ers D would disrupt him more than they did.

I'm also impressed with Smith. 9ers offense didn't really do much, mbut dude hung in there and showed some confidence.

90171, alright giants. i want a fucking rematch

with no 19-0 on the line, I will have to root for one of the most asstacular defenses and hubristic offenses in the NFL... against the guy who just won't die.

90269, I've already resigned myself
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-22-12 07:55 PM
to the idea that a 2007 rematch and possible repeat is inevitable.

fuckin' hate both teams and their streak of sheer LUCK.
90270, still a half to play anything really could happen
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 07:59 PM

90271, nah, this game is over
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-22-12 08:01 PM

Eli is top 4 this season (thanks to Cruz and Nicks)
the son of a bitch just won't be sacked

and he won't do anything as dumb as Brady did w/Slater earlier today
90272, I wanna be like Victor Cruz nm
Posted by d., Sun Jan-22-12 07:49 PM
90273, man, this game is over if you let Cruz get away with that PB&J

90275, y'all know this shit ain't "close" right?
Posted by themaddfapper, Sun Jan-22-12 07:56 PM
but for Antrell getting caught out there, the 9ers aint doing jack shit.

And between the protection, 3rd down conversions and Cruz, its but a matter of time.

I'm praying Harbaugh goes all Mike Smith and decides to "shut down" Victor Cruz. Hakeem n Mario gonna give whomever the bidness.

Frank Gore has shown up. Vernon has one great play and 30 yds worth of fuckery. And clock's bout to strike 12 on ya boy Alex.
90276, we get 7 on the first play of the coming half
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 07:58 PM
and the 49ers will have to start passing more i think we can start getting sacks and pressure on smith. I want them to step away from gore when they do that its game.
90277, Gore is a problem, and Smith's tuck n run is a problem
Posted by themaddfapper, Sun Jan-22-12 07:59 PM
nothing else in their offense is an issue. If they "have" to start passing, that boy gonna get FUCKED UP(c)Bernie Mac
90278, agreed
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 08:02 PM
giants just gotta come out this quarter and play like they've been disrespected and are 10 points down if were ahead by the 4th quarter i reckon the 49ers will start to give up
90279, wait... THAT is what they flagged VD for?

90292, eh, it was a 5 yarder
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-22-12 08:26 PM
no damage done, really since it still would have been 4th and 1
90293, shouldnt be any penalty
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 08:27 PM
because its basically saying to players don't try too hard to block punts
90294, I feel you on this, it's kind of a lot of the 'incidental' penalties

Posted by mtbatol, Sun Jan-22-12 09:07 PM

90358, I'm sayin. And we've seen that a lot in these playoffs
Posted by Lach, Sun Jan-22-12 09:09 PM
It's like these dudes are going retarded in these situations. And even when he realized his leg touched it, he half assed started going after it. CUT!

90403, that they are not as good as the giants D
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 09:37 PM
also i hope you realise one of these two D's is coming for Brady in 2 weeks and for a QB as vulnerable to collapsed pockets as he is, its not gonna be an easy ride either way.
90404, Shit it's going to be rough no matter who we play
Posted by Lach, Sun Jan-22-12 09:56 PM
Personally I rather play the 49ers cuz at least their offense is suspect with their strength being running the ball and our defense's strength is stopping the run.

90417, at least the whistle was blown in this one.
Posted by Effa, Mon Jan-23-12 12:57 AM
dudes were running with the ball after jennings fumbled and then they blew the whistle.

also fuck everyone complaining about that. linval joseph almost killed alex smith if he wasn't getting held from behind. no call there. and no call on the same type of hold on joseph the play immediately after.
90418, FOH with that BS
Posted by josephmurf2384, Mon Jan-23-12 04:32 PM
The Jennings call didn't dramatically change the game. They call that right and we win in regulation. One of the worst calls i have ever seen during a game.
90419, 9ers bout to win this with a FG in regulation.
Posted by d., Sun Jan-22-12 09:37 PM
no way the Giants stop them from getting into FG range

never underestimate the power of weighted, divisional hate.

put it this way, would you enjoy watching Tony Romo getting away with the same shit?! Or Vick... or some other Eagle QB w/o a backstory like his?

if you say yes, I have some beachfront property in White Plains I'd like to sell you.

I dislike the Pats (rather, Belichick/Brady) for 2001 and 2004 and have been enjoying their continual fall in the postseason ever since, esp. the Jake Plummer L. That dislike intensifies when they get away with a win like they did against Baltimore.

but there is no NFL-wide Extinction Level Event ala 19-0 shielding the Giants this time.

I simply don't want another championship in the NFC East, esp. won by a 9-7 underachieving ass team helmed by the Indestructible Forrest Gump of the NFL. Especially when my team has beaten them 7 out of their last eight meetings, and 6 straight before the last 2. This is a fallible team, given the luck of the draw in the playoffs.

Add on to the fact, that I have to hear the chorus of "0 Lombardis" and other such faggotry from OUT of the NFC fans over and over and over, an Eli win would only worsen that talk.

NOPE.

Might as well give it to the Montana of this era... even though I really don't think that team stands a chance against the Indestructible Lie.
90544, there's no threat of 19-0 this time
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-22-12 10:35 PM
and if I'm honest, I value no more championships in the NFC East, especially from the wack-ass Giants more than I value holding an agenda over an out of conference team that at most I just like to watch lose.

on the scale of hate, the Pats come out lightest.

90641, Hey real talk, with an offseason to improve the offense
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 10:52 PM
the 49ers are gonna be a problem for years to come that defence has been there for a while now and isnt going away. they draft a decent receiver and open up the big pass plays they can handle anyone in the conference. No moral defeats but thats a good ass team
90642, Or they could be the Jets
Posted by Tiger Woods, Sun Jan-22-12 11:07 PM
A talent loaded band of loose cannons, with the loosest of cannons calling the plays. Harbaugh's lack of professionalism speaks volumes, first in not even making eye contact with Coughlin and then in telling Fox no when they asked for an interview. Even Belichick gave an interview after they went 18-1. And of course there was the whole post-game confrontation with Schwartz.

So that kind of guy at the helm can work wonders. Or he can wear thin fast and burn talent out at an accelerated rate. Can this defense keep at this level of bloodthirsty physicality? Can Alex Smith improve? They're in a buns division, so that's a guaranteed 4 wins minimum for at least another two years, but then what?

Theres still a whole lot of wait and see here in my opinion.
90643, i think harbaughs demeanor works similar to rex's but he hasnt made
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Sun Jan-22-12 11:20 PM
the error of promising stuff or making his players feel like they are entitled yet. plus lets not forget the reason that offense was so basic was because of the lack of an offseason. im not sure smith is a QB that can carry a team with his arm but im sure they will lean on him more next year
90644, I'm not seeing the loose cannon thing
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jan-23-12 01:30 AM
If you're talking about VD, that only one of the penalties was actually bad. The "excessive celebration" one was bullshit. Compare the Vernon Davis of now to Vernon Davis of yesteryear, and it's like night and day. The old VD had his head up his ass and he was wasting his talent. This one is generally focused.

Otherwise, in terms of players? Not seeing. The defensive players are all hard-nosed, bust-your-ass cats without major attitude problems.

Yeah, Harbaugh can be a bit abrasive. But he doesn't spout bulletin-board material like Rex Ryan. He's intense and he gets the players to buy what he's selling. Of course, that'll only working as long as they're winning, but if we can keep the core together, we could keep doing that for a while.
90645, Yo, its sad, but its evident that even the Best D can't win this league

We just need an Oline, maybe a receiver. But real blocking.

Seriously, Cutler is an elite QB waiting to happen. He took a team of true nobodies to the NFL Championship game last year, then showed up this year and was ten times better.

But he needs to stop getting hit.

NO PROPS for holding my boy linval joseph on two straight plays! that shit almost gave me a neck stinger from me violent raging.

kyle williams is a better returner than any of the giants players he just made mistakes.

on to the pats. we can beat them. im not afraid of brady because we can rush him. hes not mobile like rodgers or smith.
90653, This game was lost for two reasons
Posted by Beamer6178, Mon Jan-23-12 12:26 AM
1) Atrocious offensive playcalling

2) He whose name I can't even speak right now

Frank Gore was CUTTIN in them motherfuckas. Makes no sense why in the second half so few drives started with a run. the last one they DID do that, vernon caught his second TD. any of the host of other drives did not, inexplicably, when the Giants were NOT stuffing the run. plus it runs clock, sets up the pass, keeps the Giants D on the field, etc etc etc. All those third downs that aren't converted don't happen if the offense doesn't face such difficult situations.

I don't need to speak on the name I shall not say, all I know is that there needs to be a roster cut.

This hurts more than any other 49er loss I can recall experiencing.
More than 1990 because I was only 12 and not yet locked in, and didn't realize what would transpire with the franchise after.
More than 1992-1993 because I can honestly acknowledge that those two Dallas teams were better.

But to have a game where someone could NOT punch you out, and did NOT score in the entire second half except for the niggerishness of a motherfucking motherfucker. With an ass in the head offensive philosophy that places undue pressure on the team and leaves time on the clock. Wasting hands down the best defense the league has seen since the Ravens in 2000.
With uncertainty about how much longer the core of that D will be together. You can never guarantee getting back, so missing this golden opportunity is painful.

Motherfuck motherfuck motherfuck. I'll probably watch the super bowl, but I won't be able to lock in, knowing that we should goddamn well be there and would beat those fucking Patriots.

on the real though your front seven is going to be the best front seven for years to come. this team will be in the playoffs again if you establish a more confident passing game. every big play comes off some sort of trickery or blown coverage.

your oline needs to stop with the bush league shit though. anyone notice justin tuck's face mask? he changed it specifically for this game.

the joseph hold was fucking blatant because the pocket was empty except for linval literally being held back by his coat tails lol
90657, Eh, this isn't even the worst play-off loss to the Giants for me
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jan-23-12 01:22 AM
1990 was way worse. Hell, I'm old enough to remember 45-3 in like '85. Those were both a lot worse.

This is disappointing as hell because we lost the game is such a bone-headed manner, but it's amazing that we made it this far after so many years of losing and knowing we could be doing better. I think we'll be back and that's fine. We just won't be sneaking up on anyone anymore.
90658, It's prolly #2 for me behind 1990

90659, I will say this about Eli...
Posted by ChampD1012, Mon Jan-23-12 09:57 AM
he's a better playoff QB than his brother Peyton...

he's almost the reverse Peyton...Peyton will get you to the postseason and then flounder...

Eli will flounder through the regular season but if he gets to the postseason, he's a problem. I will give him that.

If he beats Brady in two weeks, I will give him credit as a top tier QB in this league.

I BEEN saying that shit. But this wasn't about Eli heroics. However, I expect him to have some in two weeks.

Good game. That was the worst forward progress call i have ever seen, and that ball should have been ours. Kyle Williams is done. Crabrtree could have stayed home. Bad play calling on the O. Great season. Can't wait til next year.
90663, I went into this thinking the 9ers would win 6 or 7 if they played 10 times
Posted by OldPro, Mon Jan-23-12 02:13 PM
...at the stick

I left that game KNOWING they would win 8 or 9 times... No the Giants are not the better team. No way no how can I believe that even when i strip away the bitterness over losing a game like that. In fact it's the losing to a team you know you're better than and seeing them get "lucky" that makes it so bad

I totally understand Doc's Eli agenda know... when I got home from the game last night and turned on NFL Network and saw they were raving about Eli in this game... making it sound like he somehow saved the day... we'll let's just say that's not the game I sat and watched. Did he make some nice throws... yeah but he dude was real sloppy with the ball and was just flat out lucky he didn't have 2 or 3 picks. We actually called it early in the 3rd when we saw how dude was starting to throw off his back foot... our whole section was waiting for that big turner. Eli should thank Goldson for taking at least two away. But without the turnovers I'm not sure the Giants get more than a FG in the second half... Eli and the Giants weren't going anywhere in the second half up until those two punts.

As I expected the Giants couldn't run worth shit on us and we could... why we went away from it in the second half I'll never know.. And our receivers... smh. I'll be the first to admit Alex threw some of those old feet balls we used to see but most of those were 3-7 yard passes... down the field anyone not named Vernon couldn't get open. It was pathetic actually.. but I'll address this more in the 9er off-season post.

Bottom line is we had 5 or 6 plays that had even one went the 9ers way would have sent them to the super bowl... This despite a sputtering offense and multiple Eli fun balls somehow finding the turf.

So congrats Giant fan... sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Just don't expect lightening to strike twice when you visit the stick next year.

And the gameplan was horrific... really horrific, underusing Gore and the playcalling in general was pathetic... it was a gameplan made to keep the game close, not to win

i don't even know what it was a gameplan to do call it man, it was awful clock management and anti-smart ball control. continually throwing on first down, getting incompletions and stopping the fucking clock. they did a lot of this shit during the saints game too, it was forgotten in the fury of the last four minutes but truly the biggest takeaway i have from these two games is how disjointed our offensive scheming is at times. that fucked up end around RIGHT after our first TD and getting the ball back quickly was so goddamn unnecessary. MAKE THEM STOP YOU FIRST.
90666, The offense sucked because people couldn't get open downfield
Posted by OldPro, Mon Jan-23-12 02:54 PM
and as you said they went away from Gore. But I watched the receivers all game and they just weren't getting any separation... I heard Matt Millen on the radio today and after watching the film he confirmed what I saw with my own eyes. I posted before the playoffs I was worried about the 9ers WR core and it bit them at the worst possible time... I'm not sure TO would have mattered but I'd have rather taken that chance than to have Brent Swain as our 3rd WR in a close game with the conference title on the line. On the post game show they pointed out the 9ers were one pulled hammy away from Colin Jones going in at WR... dude is a backup safety and special teams guy that hasn't played WR since high school... I'm sorry that's just cutting it too close.

But this is all part of my point... despite all that it still came down to fumbled two punts and a forward progress call... just change one of those and it's a different outcome. I really do wish I believed the Giants are the better team... this whole thing would be much easier to take.

90667, yes, thats part of the reason, the 49ers have shitty wr's
Posted by rjc27, Mon Jan-23-12 03:07 PM
granted, they had edwards/ginn/morgan before injuries but the reality is the offense is not that good that is 1 of the reasons why, which is why I said the only chance the niners had was Vernon Davis doing it himself (like he did vs the saints late) and somehow this motherfucker almost pulled it off twice! unreal...

the 2 Gore issues that irritate the hell out of me were:

1/ Running out of the shotgun... they come out in a tie game late and go shotgun 3 times, fucking ridiculous...

2/ that 3rd and 2 on the giants 44 or wherever it was you give that ball to Frank Fortyniner Gore! Not anthony dixon, you tell Gore get me 2 fucking yards so we can go score again and go to the super bowl... horrendous...

And Harbaugh's love affair with taking delay of game penalties to back the punter up when both times he only punted it to the 20!

YES!!!! Had they outright kicked our ass I'd be like "well, we couldn't have done any better, they just beat us" DIDN'T HAPPEN. the only time we really got BEAT this year was by the Ravens.

we shut their fucking shit DOWN in the second half. i'm really really really just so mad because this is the best defense the NFL has had since the Ravens in 2000 and it will never get its proper respect until we win a super bowl.

you see my post above. this and your boy whose name i can't mentioned...but we were literally GOREing them motherfuckers. and our two touchdowns came after we got some good runs and made them respect shit.

Eli, as much as I hate to admit it -- with Cruz, Nicks, and Manningham is as much a problem as any top tier QB out there in the passing game... you have to have your secondary on your A game, and the safeties especially for SF were putting in work.

I watched that whole game envious.

and this is from a fan of a team who is notorious for getting to Eli with the wackest LB corps ever.
90671, Playcalling pisses me off the most
Posted by colonelk, Mon Jan-23-12 02:43 PM
Williams fucked up bad, but that shit happens. After the first mistake, Sealey should have known this kid's head well enough to realize he was shook and going to be a liability.

Why we did not ride the run game has baffled me throughout the latter half of the season and did so again today. I can only hope Gore was nursing some kind of injury that made a 20+ carry day impossible somehow (it was odd to see Dixon in on a couple runs in a row in there).

I hope the Pats just blow out the Giants to the degree that we say, "Shit, that hurricane of points would have overwhelmed the Niners as well."
90672, I'm glad you brought up Dixon
Posted by OldPro, Mon Jan-23-12 03:03 PM
You reminding me of another play I wanted to talk about. There was a play in the 4th with the 9ers up 14-10 were dude could have basically ended the game. Not sure if you could tell on TV but dude had a hole and a wide open lane to the end zone.. instead of hitting it hard he stutter stepped and was barely tripped up by a Giant on the ground (I couldn't make out who it was) And why Dixon was still in on that 3rd and 1 I'll never know.

God damn the more I talk about this game the more pissed I get!

90673, yeah, it was apparent
Posted by colonelk, Mon Jan-23-12 03:53 PM
Gore would have turned that hole into a huge gain or TD. So would Hunter. You could tell Dixon knew it too--he was beating himself up for getting tripped up.

Dixon seems like a big part of the locker room and special teams. But he's shown me no reason why he should ever be on the field on offense.

90674, welp you can take all that wit you to the offseason post fam

Today it's luck? lol
90676, The Giants were lucky.... as I said I wish it wasn't true
Posted by OldPro, Mon Jan-23-12 03:09 PM
it would be easier to take

if you want to equate a kid botching two punts (it was actually 3 but he was lucky to hold that ball after a diving catch) with the way the 9ers have caused turnovers this year you go right ahead if that makes you feel batter. Getting DBs to collide on Eli's fun balls was all part of the plan too I guess? But I really don't care enough about what you think to try and convince you.

You got EVERY break and won by 3 in OT

And you damn right I'm mad

Losing to a team like that under those circumstances... being mad is the proper response.

yesterday. both defenses played well...both offenses struggled.
BUUUUUUUT
niners made dumb mistakes. giants didn't.

if it doesn't rain yesterday, giants offense is much more efficient, eli is more accurate, recievers don't slip.

your playcalling would still be dumb and you wouldn't be able to sustain a drive.

Cry.
90678, The 49ers are an attacking defense
Posted by OldPro, Mon Jan-23-12 03:18 PM
they didn't fluke their way into that turnover differential... But people thinking all turnovers are created equal will never get this anyway. You just remember that you called it luck when you see similar totals next year... and the year after... and the year after and so on. This is who the 9ers are and will be as long as Harbaugh is their coach.

That's my say

I'm done

what we're saying is, and LISTEN UP, is that we're not mad at the Giants, because they didn't BEAT us, not like they BEAT Green Bay and not like they BEAT Atlanta. Their best shot was literally not enough to take us out. We had to have two of the worst special team plays ever that gave the Giants at the THIRTY YARD LINE AND IN. and STILL lost by three despite NUMEROUS chances at an offense that has clearly been more productive all season long and especially of late. try and tell me our defense wasn't stuntin yesterday.

no one is shitting on the giants, they did what they had to do. but we would have preferred if they had slam punched us in the mouth and flat out BEAT us. if you can't understand that frustration then roll on motherfucker

You say we beat GB but some people wanna put that on dropped catches. Atlanta beat themselves too according to some. Lucky is used for my team too often for my taste. Homos on here wanna put a WHOLE SB RUN on luck cuz they can't figure out why their shitastic franchise can't see the divisional round. Every deep run is gonna have things break your way. Every team gets lucky sometimes. It's only important when its us tho.

And you talk about your defense totally owning us. Okay. If I cop to that what does it mean that we had the same score for so much of the game? Oh yeah, we got lucky and INTs didn't happen and your receivers dropped passes.

Fuck that.

dog, your argument is not with me. i aint' taking shit away from the giants, really i'm not. i'm not even calling it a bullshit win. what i'm saying is i'm fucking HEATED that we did some stupid ass shit against a team that i believe we're better than, causing us to lose.

>Every deep run is gonna have things break your way. Every team
>gets lucky sometimes. It's only important when its us tho.
again, i'm not one of these people so please direct that elsewhere.

>And you talk about your defense totally owning us. Okay. If I
>cop to that what does it mean that we had the same score for
>so much of the game?
you're making my point. after you were up 10-7, the rest of your points came DIRECTLY off of special teams turnovers on no further out than OUR THIRTY YARD LINE. again, please don't think i'm shitting on the giants, I just think that our defense is THAT good. those two turnovers, since they came off of plays where our offense was going to get the ball again, directly prevented us from scoring any more points. so while i can't say we'd have scored a touchdown or a field goal on either of those, I can at least say that you guys wouldn't have had such a short field to work with and would have had much more difficulty getting points.

you might have missed me saying it above but i'm madder at our playcalling. our running game was fucking WORKING. yet, these assholes called pass plays to begin almost every drive in the second half. y'all weren't running for shit on us, but at least you didn't abandon it. i honestly think that was the biggest issue with our offense. it kept us from ever establishing a rhythm and putting together extended drives. i didn't see the numbers but i'm sure y'all KILLED us in time of possession.

one of my boys, a diehard giants fan and season ticket holder, admitted that had we run the ball more we'd have won the game. this isn't taking anything away from you because how you call plays is part of it and OUR STUPIDITY, but i'm saying tho....

>Oh yeah, we got lucky and INTs didn't
>happen and your receivers dropped passes.
never said that

The irony is that it was a long whistle that allowed Eli to throw that pass to Tyree in the Super Bowl

I get what you're saying, and you've got a beef. It's just that shit reffing hits everyone, some at worse times than others.

though they waste time on 18 game schedules and concussions, refs, gambling, and the whiff of impropriety is the NFL's biggest issue.

Not that Goodell gives a shit.

and i am over it for the most part.... It just irks me that this happened twice in the past two weeks, and i honestly think it may have to do with concussions/how hard we hit that the refs when watching us are quicker to blow it than on other teams, because there is no reason looking at that play it should have been blown dead. We are great at standing people up and scrapping at the ball, but they are taking that away from us.

90704, Hol up?? can someone explain how the 2nd fumble was a bad

9er play and not a forced error by the giants...or gosh, maybe both?

b/c the rhetoric i'm getting about this niner loss from SOME niner fans here is...

1) 2 dumb fumbles
2) early forward progress call
3) Giants lucky
4) Bad playcalling
5) Giants lucky

90705, seriously? you need this to be explained

dude who ALREADY gave the giants 7 points, after our defense got us the ball back for the SECOND TIME in OT, only needed to fair catch and let our offense go back to work. it was RAINING, and any turnover at that point was ball game. was not worth the risk at that point. when he did it in regulation, we were actually trailing. giants punt returners were falling the fuck down mega fast.

the first wasn't really a fumble, it was a dumb ass punt return cause he didn't clear the fuck out away from the ball. it shouldn't have even been a CONSIDERATION that the ball could hit him.

>2) early forward progress call
yes i shall call bullshit on that, esp since your biggest play over the past 20 years centered around a similar play where your quarterback threw it at dudes helmet for a monumental first down. BUT I'm not hanging my hat on that one, my ire is for he whose name I won't mention who directly produced 10 giants points and our refusal to run gore on first down.

>3) Giants lucky
nah

>4) Bad playcalling
Gore not running on first down

>5) Giants lucky
again nah. while i can understand how some call the giants lucky, i don't agree it was their LUCK that had anything to do with it. two stupid as FUCK special teams plays, i mean is it their fault they get ten points from getting the ball on the 30 and closer twice? i'm not mad at the giants. i DO think the bradshaw fumble was quick fast, but my position is that if we run gore on first down ball game, or if that idiot doesn't make two turnovers on special teams, ball game. but i'm not going to sit here and say the giants are undeserving.

90709, The second fumble was a great play from what i remember

I have to watch the game again tonight, but if i remember Williams was trying to break outside and switch ball hands. Williams from the Giants made a great play on the ball. The first fumble was a dumb mistake by Williams, but also a great heads up play by the giants to make sure they played it out and recovered. The whistle on Bradshaw fumble was atrocious especially since he was still fighting for yards and that is one of the kind of plays where people roll off a guy and get back up since he was on top of him. I don't think you all got lucky, you jsut made the plays that mattered and got away with one. I am mad as shit at Michael Crabtree for catching one football for 3 yards and than bitching about "not getting a chance to make plays." I respect William's for manning up and feel bad for the kid, who actually had shown some promise this year. I feel really bad for our D, because we might not be able to re-assemble them and they deserved a chance to play for a championship. I feel bad for Frank Gore that he has been productive and than forgotten in games. I am mad at our playcalling, because we had every chance to win that game and we didn't. So no as an avid niners fan congrats, i don't think you were lucky i think you did what it takes to win the game when it was all said and done, were there some variables that went dramatically the G-mens way sure, but they earned the W just as much as we earned the L. Good luck in two weeks.
90710, thank you..that's dope. i respect that.

90711, i'd say williams was being careless also.
Posted by Flash80, Wed Jan-25-12 11:33 AM
there was the fumble..
there was the knee touch..
there was him sprinting and making a diving catch on one punt return instead of letting the ball roll..
there was him calling for a fair catch when the nearest gunner was 20 yards away.

dude simply had a bad day filling in for ginn.

also, one of the local talking heads yesterday pointed out the special teams coach is culpable too for not putting another man (kendall hunter) back there as a dual returner or up-man because of the wet field.

this is something the giants did.

i want to pile on williams like the next guy...PAUSE...but i'm not losing sight of 1-for-13 on 3rd down, abandoning the running game which had been working (we only ran the ball twice in the last four possessions despite) and the receivers unable to get separation.

and even the biggest alex smith fans here have to admit that he didn't do enough to win the game.

the giants exploited tremaine brock and did what they had to do.

this stings, but personally 1990 probably still hurts more 'cause of the high expectations for the three-peat and also joe's niner career effectively ending. seifert/holmgren flat out got outcoached by parcells/belichick.
