clearly he DID have something left in the tank if you look at the numbers.

Shockey went to New Orleans for a 2nd and a 5th in 2008. This trade occurred despite the fact that Shockey had just broken his leg the season before. Cooley broke his leg during 2009, the season after which I claimed he could have been traded for a 3rd. Cooley and Shockey were peers, with Shockey generally being more of a brand name due to his 1st round draft pick status and breakout rookie season. Shockey was 27 during the season he broke his leg, after which he was traded. Cooley was 27 during the season he broke his leg, after which I think we could have traded him for a 3rd. Shockey also had a long history of injury, while Cooley had not missed a single game.

IMO, it's pretty clear he could have garnered a 3rd after the 2009 season. Shockey had more of an injury history and was the same age, yet went for a 2nd and a 5th.
