"RADIN"

I posted this in an old thread Radin originally created, but I'm also starting a new thread in case that one gets lossed.

I wanted to post something on behalf of Radin’s family. I know he used to post on this message board a lot and met a lot of people through Okay Player. Radin was my brother, and I considered him a best friend. He had so much going for him in life, but unfortunately didn’t see that. He took his life on Monday, Nov 19th, less than one week after my grandma passed.

Radin had so many friends across the country, and he made an impact on all of his friends in some way. He was such a hip hop fan. He introduced my brother and I, along with many of his friends to different artists. The last time he saw my 3 year old niece in July, he was teaching her all about the Beastie Boys. He is going to be extremely missed by many.

I saw there was a thread in his honor for what has happened, and I enjoyed reading through it. I did read someone doubting that Joshua Radin is a cousin.. he is a second cousin of ours. For anyone else that had memories of Radin.. I’d love to hear them.

Thanks
Candice

..the loss of a loved one is never easy

still, there is some solace in the fact that they've touched the lives of so many. we're all opinionated, passionate, and sometimes stubborn as hell. at the same time, there really is a general sense of community among okayplayers.

we're family.

he will be missed.

*i should add that radin was quite a character on the okaysportsboard. such a huge supporter of THEE ohio state buckeyes (the only ohio team i care about), and certainly game to contend in any discussion.

if you ever want to check out some of the shenanigans that often occurred in the world of okaysports, take the time to search his name in the okaysportsboard archives: http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topics&forum=21

This mustve been somewhere between 04-06 or so. He was in a fantasy basketball league I started called Survivor. Radin was a committed member of the league (he was active, and always talked some good shit). Because we were in the league together, we mustve exchanged IMs for trading purposes and ended up chatting via IM from time to time. Nothing too serious, just passing time at work. He told me about his friend in Cleveland who installed enterainment systems for a lot of teh athletes, and how that friend was trying to get him involved. We sometimes talked about tOSU or other sports. He was a good guy,

Anyhow, one day in the survivor league, as commissioner I made a decision he didnt agree with. He was pissed and after a couple of exchanges decided to just leave the league in the middle of the season.

I think we were all a little mad at him, but at the end of the day I respected his decision. Unlike most times Ive had that situation comeup in a number of leaves. People whine, snivel, argue, complain. Radin said his piece, the decision was not change, so he left and never looked back. Didnt talk anymore shit about us, didnt bother us, didnt whine. It takes a special kind of stubbornness that I respect, for him to do that.

He always seemed like a social guy who had a nice network..especially in Cle and Ohio. Saw he had moved away from Ohio and always wondered about that.

I hope your family the best...

I appreciate but I'm not going to take your money and I do hope it ends up being yours over most others.

It's just not fun anymore like it was. I credit you for all you did to keep it moving but the Vets fizzled. The best Shawn and Boogs could do to keep the league entertaining was pull that shady move at my expense. All the while I have inboxes of Boogs trying to get AI for the longest time (I mean it's even in the thread) I just feel robbed because I was giving up a franchise player already in Ray Allen but the co-commissioner didn't even have to do that when he traded Barbosa for arguably the best player in the NBA. Nobody was asking him to give up TMac or Gilbert.

No hard feelings but I think I just need to step back before I let a internet fantasy basketball league with people I don't even know get to me

87649, Peace to you and yours sis. Hurts to even read that.

Your brother held strong views and posted confidently. I respect that and try to do it myself lol. No point being mealy-mouthed on the internet.

I also remember your brother talking trash and making bets on OKS and just respecting that. I think we disagreed on a lot, espcially Lebron post-decision lol, but he was a man willing to put a definitive stamp on a discussion and put his money where his mouth was and I respect that.
87650, A little bit about how Eric helped me out IMMENSELY
Posted by guru0509, Tue Dec-11-12 06:34 PM
I've told a few people this already, but I cant stress it enough..

I was excited, but scared as hell about attending TOSU (3.5 hours from home) and I had heard nightmares of people having to spend 5+ years to finish one degree, let alone a double major like mine

I must have peppered him with about 1000000 questions ranging from classes, dorm questions, where buy used books, used car, transportation, food (vegetarian/Indian restaurants), professors, you name it...

he never once got sick of me and replied to every question of mine in detail

Eric and I fought many battles (along with other Buckeye fans) in OKSports, on behalf of The Ohio State University from the moment Jim Tressel was hired, to the magical championship run, and all the thrashings we handed out along the way to michigan...and he defended me many times whether I was right or wrong, because it was us against THEM...a true comrade.

We also shared a common interest in the Beastie Boys, and other Okay Artists, and I'm grateful to God that those interests brought us together and led me to "meet" a caring and self-less person like Eric aka radin (along with many other people in this special community of ours)

The news hit me like a Mack truck and I've never even met him. I'm still having difficulty processing it so I can only imagine what you guys have been going through.

I'm incredibly sorry for your loss, and your family will be in my prayers.

Once A Buckeye, Always A Buckeye

This PERFECT season will always be dedicated in my memory to Eric, aka radin
