49813, Fantasy Football: How do people justify LT over Tiki?
Posted by 0NE L0VE, Fri Aug-18-06 09:59 AM
I just don't see it at all.

I looked at the numbers and it wasn't close last year. NOT CLOSE!

Plus LT has Phillip Rivers, who's never started and NFL game, holding him down.

Yet every mock draft or player ranking I see has LT over Tiki.

Why?

49814, Because he's better

It would appear to be, but after I saw Tiki against KC last year...I don't know.

Plus being a better back is irrelevant in fantasy football.
49816, it's not irrelevent at all, and yes, yes he is
Posted by rob, Fri Aug-18-06 10:34 AM
here we go again

differences in offensive scheme might account for year to year variations and a bump in receptions or touchdowns, but the best backs are also generally the best fantasy backs. and with phillip, its probably not a big deal. he produced major when brees wasn't too hot. he still has other members of the offense around him and coaching staff. he is the best player on the team and maybe in football, why wouldn't he score? and anyway, the giants are always talking about thunder and lightning and goal line backs and shit like that. i'm not fucking with tiki in my top 4 (i guess 3 now maybe).
49817, touchdowns my man.
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Aug-18-06 10:25 AM
Tiki had only 11 TDs on 411 touches

LJ had 21 on 369.

that's more than double the rate. in most fantasy football leagues touchdowns are a lot more valuable than yards.

Also the Chiefs offense has been more powerful than the Giants for quite a while now. And LJ proved last year that there's no drop off between him and Priest.

LJ scores twice as many TDs and comes from a better offense with a better rep.

Edit: LT also averages twice the TDs per touch that Tiki does.
49818, yup, that's the problem
Posted by tappenzee, Fri Aug-18-06 10:31 AM
NYG's got a short yardage guy, so Tiki loses fantasy points for that. Tiki himself said to pick Larry Johnson over himself because they kept him out of the short yardage drills in training camp.
49819, You're confusing LJ w/ LT
Posted by 0NE L0VE, Fri Aug-18-06 10:32 AM
The only thing LT has is more TDs. And that can change at the drop of a hat. Alexander had 16 TDs the year before breaking the record.

Everything else isn't close between Tiki and LT isn't close.
49820, my bad, but the same is true for LT
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Aug-18-06 10:38 AM
he consistently gets around 20 TDs a year, which is double what Tiki had last year.

I think you're vastly underrating the value of TDs in fantasy football. The only other stats that count are yards and receptions and Tiki doesn't dominate enough to make up for getting half the number of TDs. Tiki's only broken double-digit TDs three times in his career. Tomlinson has gotten double-digits EVERY year he's been in the league

LT has been performing at a higher fantsy level for a longer period of time, and fantasy football is all about going with averages.

Another strike against Tiki is his age. He's 31 and when RB's hit 30, they're likely to fall apart at any moment. LT is still in his prime at 27 years old.

Edit: more stats:

LT averages a TD every 25 touches, Tiki averages one every 39!
49821, more stats
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Aug-18-06 10:47 AM
Based on the stats in one of my leagues (which gives more value to yards than most people do)...

Since 2001 LT has averaged 400 fantasy points a season, Tiki has averaged 341.

in 2005, Tiki had the edge by 7 FPs
2004, Tiki won by 21
2003, LT by 214!
2002, LT by 67
2001, LT by 37

And the 2005 stats are a bit deceptive because of the fact that LT played with cracked ribs for the second half of the season. Tiki just figured out how to not fumble last season, and people are trying to put him better than the best RB in the game?? Let me guess, Shockey is better than Gates too, right?

Tiki is clearly the number one pick this year. We're all so dumb for not realizing it.

2) I've never drafted that low, what's it like?

Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Fri Aug-18-06 11:35 AM
Whether they like to admit it or not A lot people I know draft for "fun" also.

So a guy like Tiki is "boring."

compared to LJ and LT (who are for some reason considered exciting and always have this huge potential.

For some reason Shaun Alexander fits into the same "boring" category as Tiki
49838, this is why

49839, So Phillip Rivers means nothing to you guys?

49840, no, no he doesn't.
Posted by smutsboy, Sat Aug-19-06 10:26 AM
LT had his best fantasy seasons when Brees and the offense sucked. They threw dump off passes to him all season and he racked up the catches, yards and touchdowns.
49841, Up for the Ls.

Posted by TurkeylegJenkins, Fri Nov-03-06 04:49 PM
There is, was, and always will be only ONE LT.

Taylor has gotten over it, you can too. They asked LT II about LT I and he said that at a golf tournament Taylor said that it was fine unless they were in the same place, than Tomlinson would have to be "Baby LT."
49849, get over it
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Nov-03-06 05:28 PM
this doesn't affect the original LT or his legacy in any way.
49850, LT- Coke free!!

49851, LT!! LTLTLT!!! LT!! LT!!
Posted by bshelly, Thu Nov-16-06 04:02 PM
49852, Gee, I don't know...
Posted by Selassie I God, Fri Nov-03-06 07:19 PM

Barber; 155 attempts for 715 yards and 0 TDs

LT; 150 attempts for 656 and 9 TDs

In fantasy (or real life for that matter), I'll trade 60 yards for 9TDs any day.

You keep taking Tiki the retired one.

49853, their reception yards also cancels out the rushing yards (oh and 2 more tds)
Posted by rob, Fri Nov-03-06 07:24 PM
and don't forget LT has a better passer rating than brunell.
49854, Touchdowns. post over.

49855, Up for more L's
Posted by smutsboy, Thu Nov-16-06 01:39 PM
in my league LT2 has more than 50% more fantasy points than Tiki, and our league gives above average value for yardage. Meaning in most regular leagues, the difference is probably even bigger.
49856, 236-125 FP's
Posted by ErnestLee, Thu Nov-16-06 01:50 PM
111 more, or about 12 per week.

49858, I guy in my league has LT...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Nov-16-06 02:41 PM
this past Sunday his QB (Eli Manning) gave him (-3) points...he still beat his opponent soundly. LT gave him 36 points. This dude gets like 4 touchdowns every week!
49859, I just got Tiki and Betts for Brees and Cadillac
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Nov-16-06 03:37 PM
I dont think my second string QB and third running back could have fetched LT; just a hunch though.
49860, It shouldnt have fetched Tiki and Betts either
Posted by ErnestLee, Thu Nov-16-06 04:10 PM
Hell of a fleece job though.

>I dont think my second string QB and third running back could
>have fetched LT; just a hunch though.
49861, You know how I do ... it is a keeper league though
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Nov-16-06 05:11 PM
This guy has a shitty team, he make keep Brees. Where I steined him was thinking that Cadillac was a keeper. He has some decent receivers but no one worth keeping, his other back is like Julius Jones or some bullshit. He had Romo and Kitna alternating at QB.

Basically his team sucked and he needed talent, I needed Barber for the playoffs because despite being in first or second all year (second right now), I know I will lose to this asshole who has Willie Parker and Tomlinson unless I get #1 back (previously it had been Frank Gore).

I cant believe I am contending in this league, my first two picks were utterly worthless (Brady, Cadillac) and Santana has been awful lately. Thank Guinness for Marques "tight end-eligible" Colston and his crew of flunkies (Gore, Burress and other guys who lasted too long).
49862, i love okayplayer
