108903, NBA Finals: Warriors vs. Raptors
Posted by mrhood75, Sat Jun-01-19 05:12 PM
I don't give a damn about no damn Drake night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl1alBevUPU

Top 5 KD moment.

So we're finally here. Should be fun. I know the Warriors are heavy favorites, but everyone knows Toronto is a team to be taken seriously. But if GS takes Game 1, things should go smoother from there.

Looks like KD is out Game 1. Kerr said Cousins is "questionable" for the opener as well, but he's been practicing with the team for a while. So I'm hoping he'll be back to deal with Gasol and Ibaka, even though the former is well on the other side of 30.

Curry also plays extremely well against Toronto.

Anyway, Warriors in 6.

And Mistah Fab>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Drake.
108904, media already pushing a draymond vs drake storyline.
Posted by Reeq, Tue May-28-19 06:32 AM
admittedly im hoping theres at least one altercation between them too.
108905, I'll take TOR
Posted by bentagain, Tue May-28-19 09:05 AM
Forgot they have home court

Klay's gonna have to carry GSW, and I don't have faith he can for 4 Ws

TOR has stuck with Green, even though he's washed

I expect a quick hook for Powell if Klay does get hot

Lowry really stepped up vs MIL, and I don't think Steph's advantage is that great being in a slump for all except the last 3 games

I guess GSW have to put Dray on Kawhi

Which gives TOR advantages with Siakim and Gasol

No KD, and it always takes a couple of games for guys to get back to full speed

TOR in 7.

108906, Danny Green is still a great defender.
Posted by Amritsar, Tue May-28-19 10:17 AM
Gives Klay all he can handle on that end. He’s always played well against us actually

And I expect him to get out of the shooting slump this series
108907, Bruv's been a liability the last 2 series
Posted by bentagain, Tue May-28-19 11:24 AM
Maybe he can stay in games if he's able to keep Klay in check

...but I think Nurse was right giving him the quick hook toward the end of the MIL series...

wouldn't even be surprised if he comes off the bench at some point

I really feel like the Klay matchup is the difference in the series.
108908, Anyone else feel like they're lying about KD's injury?
Posted by Hitokiri, Tue May-28-19 09:08 AM
Was Reggie right?
108909, yes, it went from he may have to sit out Game 6 in the 2nd round...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue May-28-19 09:47 AM
against the Rockets to "we don't know if he'll play again this season"
108910, yup. i didnt believe it at first but i do now.
Posted by Reeq, Tue May-28-19 09:50 AM
108911, Achilles? Nah
Posted by Ryan M, Tue May-28-19 11:54 AM
He wouldn't have been standing in the tunnel in Game 3 in Portland if it was.
108912, Nah, them shits linger
Posted by bentagain, Tue May-28-19 12:21 PM
I've had to work around calf strains when I started running

Full on injury

I have to stop running for a full month

Nah, not surprised

I remember Jimmy Rollins missing large parts of the baseball season with a calf strain

It's more interesting factoring in his contract situation

If he was going to stay in GSW, I'd imagine he'd find some way to get on the court...whether that be through some therapy, just pushing through, or worse case scenario as a decoy

But if he's set on leaving, why potentially seriously injure yourself for a team you won't be on in the fall

Then...if GSW wins without him...

Etc...

the potential ramifications of the injury are more interesting IMO
108913, Seems like it
Posted by Vector, Tue May-28-19 04:40 PM
108914, I hope not, but I wouldn't put it past them.

..and miles to go before i sleep...
108915, No he wasn’t. KD wouldn’t be walking right now w/ Achilles rupture
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed May-29-19 09:20 PM
And he woulda had surgery already with non-weightbearing for at least four weeks. They thought it was a grade 1 tear originally, looks like it’s grade 2 calf tear. No need for conspiracy theories.
108916, I think the Raptors need to get out to a 2-0 lead, or they're toast.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue May-28-19 09:09 AM
If you have home court against a team as dangerous as the Warriors, especially with KD out and Cousins still getting loose, you've got to stomp on the throat.

If they can get a game in Toronto short-handed, it's going to be disheartening, and it's going to empower the Warriors, and I'd take the Warriors in 5 or maybe 4.

If the Raptors could get the first 2 though, build that confidence, not take their foot off the gas and give the Warriors the chance to go Super Saiyan? Then it could go 7 and be a damn classic.

I think the former is more likely than the latter though, personally.
108917, Steph is going to burn Toronto down

wouldnt be surprised if draymond snatches the mvp from him tho.
108921, i dont think a fmvp really changes shit for him
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue May-28-19 10:26 PM
instead of having none it'll be "oh he only has 1 fmvp. even andre igoudala has a fmvp"
108922, I don't know enought to call this to be honest
Posted by Numba_33, Tue May-28-19 12:28 PM
but the one clear advantage Toronto has over the Warriors is their bench. Should be interesting how well the Warrior's bench does defensively in this series, especially if both Cousins and Durant barely get any playing time.
108923, I honestly don't know where the "Toronto is deeper" thing comes from
Posted by mrhood75, Tue May-28-19 01:53 PM
Especially since during the play-offs, unless its been a blow-out either way, the Raptors have going 8-deep. In close games, only Ibaka, Powell, and VanVleet get any run, with occasionally a smattering of Meeks. And that's been against teams that aren't as good as the Warriors.

Meanwhile, especially during the Portland series, the Warriors have been going like 11 deep. And that's with KD and Cousins hurt. In fact, the general consensus in that Kerr feels like he made a mistake shortening the bench early in the Rockets series.

So I'd give the bench edge to the Warriors, especially if Cousins and KD come back.
108924, the disappearance of Danny Green is crazy, dude is losing hella money...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue May-28-19 02:06 PM
maybe that's a good thing and the Lakers can get him for a cheap lol...

btw another interesting Danny Green/Shaq factoid...:
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/05/shaq-nba-finals-teammate-streak
108925, I certainly hope it continues. Because it would mean more VanVleet
Posted by mrhood75, Tue May-28-19 03:09 PM
And a Lowry and VanVleet tandem is an inferior version of Lillard and McCollum. Splash Brothers would eat those dudes alive.
108926, I love VanVleet
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue May-28-19 03:18 PM
108927, I like him too, but he’s small.
Posted by mrhood75, Tue May-28-19 03:23 PM
And neither Steph nor Klay are a good match up for him.
108928, RE: I like him too, but he’s small.
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue May-28-19 03:32 PM
>And neither Steph nor Klay are a good match up for him.

Oh I'm not disputing that I just like the kid I've been watching him since he was in college and I honestly I didn't think he was NBA material so him doing what he has is awesome to me
108929, With KD and Boogie out, GSW start Iggy and Looney
Posted by bentagain, Tue May-28-19 04:11 PM
After Livingston...not sure who you're banking on

Yes, the GSW are deep...but if those dudes get significant tick...it's not a close game.

TOR's bench, and most of the starters for a good part of the series, were completely ass vs us (PHL)

Powell, Van Vleet and Ibaka all saw resurgences vs MIL

I'll take those 3...over Livingston and some other guys
108930, Let’s go Toronto
Posted by Beezo, Tue May-28-19 12:50 PM
108931, 4-0, but I hope not
Posted by Vector, Tue May-28-19 04:31 PM
Want the Raptors to get a couple.
108932, I don't envy Kerr at all...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue May-28-19 07:08 PM
..He knows Cousins should be shut down, but still wants to do right by him.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
108933, Right, poor Steve Kerr.
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue May-28-19 09:03 PM
108934, Looney gives us so much more
Posted by Amritsar, Wed May-29-19 11:18 AM
at least for what we need this series
108935, The match-ups aren’t bad...
Posted by Anonymous, Tue May-28-19 09:16 PM
If KD is really out for the series.

The key will come down to Lowry being able to knock Steph around. You have to play that dude physical.

Kawhi can take care of Klay.

And I think Siakam has the energy for Draymond.

From there it’s a toss up.

Raptors are 2-0 this year against them.

I’m not saying Toronto is going to win but I find counting them out ridiculous.

It’s a perfect story for them to pull this off.
108936, Raps gotta play the other end of the court too
Posted by DJR, Tue May-28-19 09:53 PM
I think Lowry needs to have the series of his life.

The Raps have impressed me with their grit in both of the last two series’s after they looked like the inferior team at one point in the series.
108937, It's definitely going to come down to Lowry.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed May-29-19 11:37 AM
>I think Lowry needs to have the series of his life.

If he absolutely balls out, they have a real chance. But if he plays to his normal level, it's going to be really hard for them to win.
108938, it would take BRAYmond to get me to root for Drake
Posted by Dr Claw, Wed May-29-19 11:36 AM
I bought a Raptors jersey sometime around 2000 or so, numbered 77.

108942, Cousins okayed for Game 1
Posted by mrhood75, Thu May-30-19 12:26 PM
If I had to guess, he'll probably open the second quarter. They'll see how he performs from there. But I imagine he plays about 5 minutes a half, even though Kerr said there aren't any minute restrictions on him.

108944, tonight will be my first NBA game of the season
Posted by mista k5, Thu May-30-19 05:14 PM
maybe 2 seasons? im surprised i stayed away. if more games were regularly on OTA i probably would of watched some.

i have seen some clips but ive mostly been disengaged this whole season. dont have a strong dislike or love for either team. im hoping it goes 7.
108945, i have zero faith in anyone on toronto other than kawhi.
Posted by Reeq, Thu May-30-19 05:48 PM
they ran off 4 straight against the bucks but a lot of their success was built off containing a completely one-dimensional offense.

i want a competitive series but i think we could get the toronto from the 1st 2 games last series that makes everyone say 'ok yeah they are who we thought they were'.

are we really expecting kyle lowry and fred van vleet to show up on a consistent basis?
108946, stephen a smith has been hilarious on this pre-game sportscenter.

seems a little too foregone to me. I'm leaning Toronto.
108949, Terrible comparison.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-30-19 07:17 PM
Yes, the Lakers were HEAVILY favored by just about everyone - but that's where this comparison should end.

That was a very flawed, not healthy team all year who just squeaked by the damn Timberwolves (and needed an injured Sam Cassell to do so IIRC). The Warriors have won 3 out of the last 4 (and truly should have been going for 5 right now).

In retrospect, the Pistons winning was a lot less shocking than it was at the time. That Lakers team had a lot of luck to get to the Finals (0.4, Cassell's injury, etc).
108950, a lot of commentators are picking toronto.

Crazy how Toronto has played without Khawi scoring.
108960, these referees are hella funny style.

108962, yes and no.
Posted by PROMO, Thu May-30-19 10:04 PM
credit to Toronto. they have the guys to chase steph and klay around with no KD which is why they'll win if KD doesn't come back for Game 2. If he can't come back til Game 3 i think it's too late for GSW.

also, Draymond gotta work on his shooting in the offseason. he regressed like a muh.
108963, KD is out for the series bro
Posted by Anonymous, Thu May-30-19 10:26 PM
108964, Every time Dubs get close Toronto goes on a run
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-30-19 10:11 PM
Will see if Raptors can keep this up I’m the last 5 minutes when it gets crunchy
108965, I know Siakam has had an amazing game
Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-30-19 10:30 PM
But the Dubs not being able to capitalize on a bad Kawhi game is interesting
108966, Lowry didn’t play well either on offense.
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-30-19 10:40 PM
Their D on the 3 point line tho... never seen anyone else play the Dubs like this even tho everyone should.
108967, if Iggy can't play this series might be over.
Posted by PROMO, Thu May-30-19 10:34 PM
108968, Eh
Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-30-19 10:37 PM
108969, if that "eh" means "no"...
Posted by PROMO, Thu May-30-19 10:41 PM
actually you might be right.

now that i think on it, Dubs were a lot closer than they probably should have been considering how bad they played and how Toronto kind of played a "perfect storm" kind of game.

108970, Iggy ain’t the difference vs this squad
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-30-19 10:43 PM
Leonard and Lowry didn’t play that well ok offense and they still controlled the game
108971, like i said below...
Posted by PROMO, Thu May-30-19 10:46 PM
Klay needs to get off that shit.

Also, it doesn't hurt the Raps that for the most part the Dubs played pretty poorly.

And again, Siakham ain't gonna make damn near every shot going forward.
108972, Drizzy popping big shit
Posted by Johnny, Thu May-30-19 10:38 PM
to Green at the buzzer

hope Toronto wins
Siakam played out his mind
108973, People still think this Dubs team is better without KD?
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-30-19 10:41 PM
No one else could create their own shot besides Curry.
108974, Klay can create his own shot, BUT...
Posted by PROMO, Thu May-30-19 10:44 PM
he's fallen too in love with the 3.

he needs to use how they were guarding him to open up his midrange game.

*IF* the Warriors make this adjustment they'll probably be fine.

also, Siakham ain't gonna go 14-17 FGs every game.

that said, Raps could easily go on to win this series.
108975, Raptors were running him off the 3 pt line
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-30-19 10:54 PM
and yeah, that dude isn’t going to have another 30 point game but Green, VanVleet, Lowry could all have one.

I’m impressed by Toronto’s defense and ball movement. They match up perfectly with GS.
108976, for sure. Raps are a tough team for the Dubs...
Posted by PROMO, Thu May-30-19 11:30 PM
even moreso without KD.

that's what i mean though. they did run Klay off the line the whole game and when he's REALLY on he's taking that, putting it on the floor and then pulling up in the lane, or on the elbow.

he's gotta do that or the Dubs are TOAST.
108977, Warriors better without KD!!!
Posted by J_Stew, Thu May-30-19 10:45 PM
Because not having the guy playing as well as anyone in basketball history when he got hurt can only help a team!
108978, lol
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu May-30-19 10:51 PM

108984, finals record with KD: 8-1; without: 7-7

108985, The game demonstrated why the Warriors need KD to win the series
Posted by mrhood75, Fri May-31-19 12:22 AM
Steph and Klay combined for 55. Draymond had a triple double. And we got 36 from the bench, which outplayed Toronto's. And we lost by 9.

Now with Iggy probably going to miss at least a game or two, KD is especially necessary.
108986, So you’re saying Toronto is *clearly* the better team without KD?
Posted by RandomFact, Fri May-31-19 12:49 AM
Because I’m not sure this game demonstrated anything other than the Warriors weren’t on their A game defensively after nine days off.

>Steph and Klay combined for 55. Draymond had a triple double.
>And we got 36 from the bench, which outplayed Toronto's. And

108987, I'm saying over a series having KD will help a lot

..my point is that although we all recognize the situation (Cousins has never played in the post season before this year, let alone the NBA finals).

I can only imagine how difficult it must be to know that you've worked so hard your entire life to get an opportunity that rarely presents itself, and now you have to sit out?

https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-kevin-durant-expected-to-return-midway-through-finals-122615919.html

ORONTO — Barring a setback, Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant is expected to return from a right calf strain at some point midway through the NBA Finals, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

There’s some optimism within members of the organization that a Game 3 arrival could be viable, but there’s a stronger possibility that Game 4 is the most logical option, sources said.

Head coach Steve Kerr announced Wednesday that Durant was cleared to take part in individual on-court basketball activities, but the 10-time All-Star — who has missed the past six postseason games — actually began his on-court basketball workouts earlier this week, sources said.

The 7-foot forward has about three or four days of on-court work under his belt, sources said. His teammates are encouraged by his progress.

Kerr explained that Durant must go through a full practice before he is given the green light to return to action.

The franchise, sources said, does not foresee a scenario in which Durant would be completely unavailable during the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors, who took a 1-0 series lead on Thursday after a 118-109 victory.

Teammates described Durant as being sick to his stomach for being a spectator for such an important contest on the road in a hostile Scotiabank Arena.

Durant’s postseason production of 34.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game has been missed greatly by the Warriors.
109000, With Iggy hobbled and KD out for game 2...does it matter?
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-31-19 01:55 PM
KD comes back for game 3...maybe...and as we saw with Boogie coming back

109004, TOR Chip = International Expansion
Posted by bentagain, Sat Jun-01-19 01:37 PM
I've been noticing a common theme across outlets covering the series

They've all had the recent revelation that TOR is the only NBA team in Canada

...they've got a whole country behind them...

...feels like soccer/the Olympics, etc...

No shit. It's been that way for what...15 yrars...?

As with the MSM, when outlets start using the same language and phrases

There's an agenda

TOR Chip

Bet the NBA expands internationally in 2020.
109005, I feel you an agree it’s definitely an agenda but those long...
Posted by ThaTruth, Sat Jun-01-19 04:31 PM
road trips across the Atlantic will be tough and I’m sure the player’s union will have a say in that.

I don’t know if Mexico is stable enough for a full time pro franchise from the US to be based there.
109006, Ain’t no agenda. They finally made a finals.
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Jun-02-19 12:46 PM
Anytime someone makes a finals for the first time they give the team a shit load of praise.

109007, Nah...this is different
Posted by bentagain, Sun Jun-02-19 12:56 PM
Griz been left Vancouver

TOR's been in the playoffs with home court advantage for the last 5 seasons

I don't remember these comments being made

Definitely didn't notice every outlet covering the playoffs making the statement

...and it was said before the finals...
109008, Toronto never made it past Lebron tho the last 5 years
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Jun-02-19 04:11 PM
This is their first time making it far into the playoffs with a legit superstar.

and when they were down 2-0 to Milwaukee no one was talking about “a whole nation of...” everyone thought it was over.

109009, None of that is new, though...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Sun Jun-02-19 01:41 PM
..the league has been attempting to tweak their approach to international expansion for almost 30 yrs now.

Everything from scrimmages to advertisement/endorsement.

They've also explained the obstacles currently plaguing those efforts (distance, scheduling, time, etc). Expansion will happen, but 2020 is highly unlikely.

unless the season is a month longer with less games
109011, i'd rather see the NBA help start leagues abroad
Posted by jrocc, Mon Jun-03-19 08:21 AM
or help prop up leagues that already exist. basketball is already international and there's plenty of leagues around the world, but there's still some places where it's not as prominent as it should/could be. Canada is a great spot to start a high level league where there isn't one already. the Canadian national team is getting better and better it's probably time to get a proper national pro league going there. plus it's not too far for NCAA talent that's just outside of NBA level to go and play. it could be great.
109012, Heard an idea for playoff expansion
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jun-03-19 12:04 PM
Like MLB’s wildcard

9 or 10 teams per conference...with a 1 game play in...best of 3 for the winner vs 8...

I like your idea

Have international leagues...and give the winners the 9 and 10 slots...vs the NBA...

The series would have to be in the states though...

Maybe they could use a market like SEA for a home game
109013, terrible idea
Posted by jrocc, Mon Jun-03-19 03:12 PM
having a team join the playoffs that didn't play in the regular season is not going to go over well. if they want to do a Champions League type of things where they get all the champions of different nations together for a tournament that would be much better. like the McDonald's Championship used to be. if it was an official FIBA thing, that would be even better.
109014, I like that idea

Toronto doesn't have *great* talent outside of Kawhi. Assuming Klay is healthy, the Warriors got three *great* players who have been here many times, Demarcus Fucking Cousins (who at 70% is still plenty good) and an elite defense. They should figure this out.

109047, The tech was dumb, but don't discount what he did in this game
Posted by justin_scott, Sun Jun-02-19 10:19 PM
and that's not to take away from Iggy, Klay and Demarcus. They were at worst equally important, maybe slightly more, but Steph was huge too.
109048, did you notice the Box 1 defense Toronto played in the 4th quarter tho?
Posted by Amritsar, Mon Jun-03-19 07:52 AM
it was starting to work with Klay out

But the GRAVITY of Steph on the court fucks up their defense. I'm convinced that 75% of those Draymond assists are possibly only because of the weight Curry holds in their heads

They did well not allowing him to get going... How did that work out for the rest of the Warrior squad?

because I saw a TON of open layups simply because of Steph being on the court and the attention he demands
109049, Yup. I noticed they barely escaped once it was used
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-03-19 10:19 AM
It was a great adjustment but it was also because Klay was out and Steph was the “only” option

I’m not saying he sucked but I think that game was won by Cook, Cousins and Green more than Steph.

I still put this loss on the Raptors more than the Dubs.

Lowry gotta stop fouling and Gasol has to shoot that jumper. He passed up too many shots.

It was an ugly win but a win none the less.
109050, LOL. The Warriors held the Raptors to 37% shooting at home
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jun-03-19 12:27 PM
And they balled out at the end of the second half and went on a 23-3 run to start the third.

But yeah, apparently it was more of a Raptors loss than a Warriors win.

Whateva man.

109053, They pretty much chopped a double digit lead to 2
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jun-06-19 01:19 PM
It’s not a base defense but it was the prefect call to disrupt the flow after Klay went down.

109054, i cant remember ever seeing a Box & 1 in my life in the nba.

Posted by FILF, Sun Jun-02-19 10:34 PM

You say anything critical on twitter and they are COMING.
109062, The first half vs. second half takes are always so cute
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jun-03-19 12:32 AM
Steph balled in the second half, Klay balled until he got injured. Dtaymond balled throughout. Cousins, Iggy and even Quinn Cook and Bogut handled their biz too. Team made the right adjustments after the first half. And even though Kawhi got loose, Warriors D took just about everyone else out.

Did what we needed to do in Toronto, which was take one game. Pressure is back on the Raptors.

With KD coming back either Game 3 or 4, this should be fun.
109063, Curry did most of his damage at the end of the 2nd quarter
Posted by FILF, Mon Jun-03-19 01:30 AM
Curry didn't even score or assist in the 4th & Klay/Draymond/Iggy were the ones that spearheaded the 3rd quarter run with the defense/transition baskets.

If anything Curry got a technical & almost threw a pick 6 on the last possession. You also had the play where he almost committed a clear-path foul then followed it up by hacking Lowry.
109064, That's a lot of "almosts,"

109066, LMAO, you claimed he “balled” in the 2nd half
Posted by FILF, Mon Jun-03-19 11:49 AM
It ain’t like I’m playing spreadsheets basketball like Morey. Curry was very lucky on those two plays especially the last one where Livingston bailed him out b/c Kawhi was about to snatch it & go the other way. He was on the verge of having a disastrous 4th quarter.....far from “balling”
109067, You “almost” sound coherent. But you don’t, so who cares?

Stay calm my friend
109069, and then there's his gravity on the court
Posted by Amritsar, Mon Jun-03-19 07:44 AM
How he affects the entire defensive scheme just by being on the floor

allows us to exploit them pressing up on the perimeter with easy backdoor cuts to the basket

how many times did we see that tonight? And in game 1? Raptors obviously have to continue playing that scheme of Steph and Klay getting clear looks on curl action

classic Catch 22

109070, Series over. Dubs in 5. But LMAO @ winning without KD
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon Jun-03-19 10:27 AM

or else his legacy is MEHHHHH

This team *never* NEEDED him.

Poor Steph.

Oh, and IF Durant don't come back, then Lebron's 2016

Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jun-03-19 12:54 PM
I would have really liked to see how the Warriors would have played with a healthy Cousins during a play-off run.

And considering he's probably got a maximum of five games left with the team, I doubt we're never going to know.
109074, Yeah, it's over.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jun-03-19 12:33 PM

109075, I do have concerns about hte Warriors mounting injuries
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jun-03-19 01:01 PM
To steal something I heard on the radio on the way in, it's only Game 2, and the Warriors look like Arnold at the end of Terminator 2.

The injury that apparently looks the worst right now is Looney. He's got an MRI scheduled for today, and there's mutterings/fears that he might be out for the rest of the series. Klay says the hamstring is fine, but he's still got an MRI today to figure out if it is bad. And Iggy certainly didn't look good after taking the hard screen from Gasol.

The team is going to have to patch itself up with bubblegum. And getting KD back would really help.
109076, Oops misread the report

nm
109077, Where did I hear this same sentiment again?
Posted by FILF, Mon Jun-03-19 01:38 PM
Cats were burying the Raptors for “wasting” Lowry’s Gm 1 performance against the Bucks & same when the Sixers blew them out in Gm 3.

Raptors didn’t score for 10 minutes of game time in the second half & still had a chance to win the game. Even if KD plays, you have Klay/Looney dealing with injuries & whatever Iggy is dealing with seems to be day-to-day.
109078, This next game will tell us a lot.
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-03-19 02:00 PM
Raptors played terrible after getting a 12 point lead in the 2nd quarter. They still had a chance at the end.

These injuries are no joke.

I expect Curry to play better but I also expect Gasol and Lowry to play better too.
109079, The 20-0 run is the biggest in Finals history, it was an outlier
Posted by FILF, Mon Jun-03-19 02:24 PM
Raptors offense was atrocious in the 2nd half that they can only play better meanwhile Bogut/Cook/Cousins can definitely regress.
109080, You must hate the Warriors lol
Posted by auragin_boi, Tue Jun-04-19 08:14 AM
They played excellent defense on Toronto. And the raptors offense normalized in game 2. Pascal didn't go superhuman 14/17 running on adrenaline. Gasol got out of the hot tub time machine he was in for game 1 and regressed to the 2019 version of him.

And they still lost to the triage unit.

Now you're expecting the raptors to play better...on the road...and the Warriors role players (who played extremely well in game 2) to play worse...at home?

Only saving grace for this raptors team is if Klay is truly out for game 3. If Klay plays I think the Raptors lose. If Klay is out, there's still a chance the Warriors win game 3.
109081, You're comparing the Sixers and the Bucks... to the WARRIORS.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jun-03-19 02:20 PM
109082, You mean a team on crutches?

Posted by go mack, Tue Jun-04-19 12:49 PM
not technically over until they go down 3-1 but yeah, this one has to hurt as should have been a win for them under circumstances. The injuries piling up for Warriors tho so Im not gonna say its over yet.
109084, Fractured collar bone for Looney. Out indefinitely.

Posted by mrhood75, Tue Jun-04-19 12:06 AM
Otherwise, going to be even more Cousins and Bogut. And possibly some Damion Jones.Hopefully Cousins is healthy enough to handle the heavier minutes.
109088, Man, Cousins was a beast
Posted by Vector, Tue Jun-04-19 11:28 AM
109089, Klay wants to play, team officials want him to sit
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Jun-05-19 06:48 PM
Looks like they'll decide **right** before tip-off.

I'm of mixed mind about this. On one hand, I feel like we can't risk spotting Toronto a game. It's important to protect home court, and playing with Klay complicates that.

On the other hand, it would suck if he plays too soon and hurts himself even more, and is out for the rest of the series. So there's something to be said with resting Klay, and then have him and KD come back on Friday.

And if we do play without Klay and **still** manage to win the game, that would be crushing for Toronto.

I will say that so far that bench players who have been asked to step up generally have so far, starting from the end of the Houston series. And hopefully Cousins will be even better this game.

Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if in either scenario we see lots of minutes for McKinnie and more minutes for Jacob Evans.
109090, why doesnt mckinnie get more minutes anyway?
Posted by Reeq, Wed Jun-05-19 07:51 PM
every time he comes in the game it seems like he plays at a speed/intensity 1 level above everyone (except maybe draymond sometimes).

good rebounder. athletic defender. virtual lock to hit them corner 3s.

dude seems like he has a lot more to add if given the minutes.
109091, Mostly a depth thing. And he's still a little on the inexperienced side
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Jun-05-19 08:12 PM
This whole post-season has been trial by fire for the guy, as he hasn't played in these type of situations ever in his career. I think the coaching staff are still figuring out exactly how much he can play and still be effective. Plus, Iggy and Livingston have been playing well, and they're much more battle-tested.

I like him a lot; he certainly came up huge during the OT game against Portland. I imagine if he sticks around next year, he'll get more playing time, like Looney as the years progressed.

109092, makes sense.
Posted by Reeq, Wed Jun-05-19 08:27 PM
109093, If he's not healthy, he has to sit.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Jun-05-19 08:05 PM
I respect that he wants to play, but the Warriors can't let a guy play hurt and watch him hurt himself worse, especially when Klay's a UFA next season iirc. That'd just be poor, poor optics for the team. Especially when, ultimately, losing one game, while it'd hurt, doesn't matter if they can get Klay *and* KD back later.
109094, And he's out
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Jun-05-19 08:14 PM
Probably the best decision "long" term. However, they can still scrape out a win.

All I’ll say is that if the team decides to essentially throw a Finals game, at home, in one of the last games over to be played at Oracle, they sure better be ready to play KD and Klay on Friday.

On to the next one. Still can win in 6.

Their health.

But no, YOU, a poster on a message board, have the best perspective on whether they can and should play.

Not the player.
Not the doctors.

You, a person posting on a message board.

You asking how someone knows they can't play begs what should be an obvious question:

How is it that you know better then the player and their doctors?

But the injury is a reality of this series, and if Klay and KD continue to sit (Klay won't, KD might), they need consistent performances. I wouldn't hold this against Cuz long term or anything, just saying that he's not in his current state what Steph needs right now.

Also revealing: the stars are great - but they're not really capable of carrying a team to a title in Herculean fashion until the groupthink wolfpack assembles. No Lions.

109216, Warriors couldnt have scripted themselves a better Finals narrative.

Of course they want to win the chip.

That said, if they lose they lost to a talented Raptors team with damn near everyone injured and still fought the good fight...and most will (probably correctly) speculate that minus the injuries, the Dubs would have won in 5.

IF they win, they overcame so much hardship to beat the most talented team from the East since the Bron Cavs that won the chip and did nothing but display the heart of a champion.

Dubs cant lose when it comes to narrative.

109262, I think they've known he was likely gonna miss the finals
Posted by Cocobrotha2, Fri Jun-07-19 02:26 PM
But they've playing this "day-by-day" game to get Toronto to waste at least some time preparing for him.

This gamesmanship loses value every game he misses, though, bc the chances the Warriors can come back get worse and worse. Even with Durant, coming back from a 3-1 deficit would be an even longer shot than when the Cavs did it.

..

James Harden with all of his faults took the Warriors
to 7 last yr and might have pulled it out with
old ass CP fossilizing right before our eyes as his 2nd best player.

We know they went 6 this year.

AD got 1 game off the Dubs last year.

Lou Wills went 6 this yr. Lou Fvckn Wills

Bron got the gentlemans sweep and then the broom
on the biggest stage against the exact same team
that these others guys managed to give a better run with
teams that either are not superior to the 17 and 18 Cavs or
slightly better. Not to mention that none of those guys are
in the same multiverse of talent and ability that Bron is in.

Granted the 3-1 comeback was LEGENDARY not to mention 2015 was damn
impressive to go 6 w/ Delly and Mosgov
but those were young warriors

IMHO I still had Bron as the best player
in the game up until this yr but Im not really sure what to make of
bringing Lebron in this conversation other than his comments on
Billionaire White Guy trying to treat Lowry like chattel.
109267, its just agenda posting. pay it no mind.

longer or ended up as sweeps.

It’s like saying the Warriors are better without KD based on 1 series sweep without him and one or 2 losses at home with KD on the floor

It’s never that simple.

We know what all these guys are capable of and the surrounding cast that did or didn’t show up in a series.

109269, Right
Posted by AtoZ 0toInfinity, Fri Jun-07-19 09:54 AM
Guess I'm not making my point clear but I think you synthesized
most of what I'm trying to say

Which is why I feel theres no reason to put Bron into this
particular series because although some series can be similar
it doesn't necessarily make it the same 1:1 ratio

Do I think the Warriors should win ?? Absolutely, but easily??
Nah, not really.

109270, Nah, Golden State turns it on when they have to.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Jun-07-19 10:27 AM

Thing is, its harder to "turn it on" without
TWO MVPs and multiple hall of famers

So they just experiencing life as an average best
team in the league (by a lot)

The Lebron stuff was that people been trying to
criticize HIM for losing. Now we're seeing what life
is like....poor Steph -- 47 points in a LOSS. Why? He
didn't have the people around him. See how that works?

Ah...ok, so you want LeBron to get respect for doing what he did and losing to better teams. I get it. But Jordan did the exact same thing...but in what would be the equivalent of the modern Western conference for the last 5-10 yrs, so...he couldn't make the finals.

He kept losing to better teams with multiple allstars, MVPs and HOF's on them (Celtics/Pistons).

Difference between LeBron and Jordan though...when he got help, he didn't lose in the finals.

Bron lost twice with a Finals MVP/Multi-allstar and all NBA player and another multi-allstar and all NBA player and lost 3 times with An allstar MVP, 2 multi allstar/all NBA players.

So, grind your axe against the warriors and Steph...completely fair.

But swallow that sword for throwing rocks at the throne while you're at it.

his offense is not good. In fact, I don't even like to see him shooting. he was airballing it often. Thankfully for the Raptors, it didn't matter.

What he was doing though, was playing defense and moving the ball properly. leaned on it. Particularly when Kawhi wasn't in the line up and they needed to "not choke".

He might be their Donkeylips in this series.
109400, It was great basketball. I was screaming for him to shoot
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Jun-08-19 08:18 AM
but he was moving the ball around and getting better shots for other players.

There were a few times where the extra pass was just beautiful to watch. They were passing up good looks to get GREAT looks and open layups.

Never heard of him but dude is great at calling timeouts.

I know that sounds basic as shit but he knows how to calm his team down or slow down these GS runs.

One thing that is impressive is their ball movement. Lebron and ISO ball makes it easy for the Dubs to defend and rest. Raptors are RUNNING these dudes out the gym after GS makes a basket.

that's why knocking them for signing durant is so stupid to me.

the whole "they won 73 games, they were already great, how dare they improve their team even more" argument.

if they'd lost that first year (which they very well could have, and imo would have, had Cleveland been healthy) the narrative completely changes. they're "soft" "chokers", a rich man's '07 mavs, and KD's the savior who finally gets them past lebron. but because kyrie and love got hurt in '15, durant is viewed as some sort of luxury, instead of what he actually is.
109406, They had the '16 Cavs down 3-1 w/ a compromised Curry then shit happened

Draymond's suspension gave the Cavs life & even then it took a 3 miracle plays (Kyrie's shot, LeBron's block, Love stopping Curry) for them to win with Iggy playing on a back bad, Barnes not being able to hit a shot & Bogut missing the latter half of the series.

Despite losing the series, OKC was the one that outplayed the Duds but Servant didn't want to run it back. The criticism stems from him jumping ship rather than what it has devolved to right now.

I still don't know how anyone can blame GSW for taking Durant with the money they would've otherwise had set for Barnes.

And ahem..Durant could've stayed with that foolishness in OKC, but that would've been a clear case of keeping it real gone wrong, right? Right? And why not go to GSW? Where should he have gone?
109409, Durant with OKC had GS down 3-1 in the WCF, they had been to...

took Kawhi whoopin' that ass in a similar situation for us to get here, but I'm grateful
109411, Only person that deserves actual fry-age if the Dubs lose: Kerr.
Posted by PROMO, Sat Jun-08-19 01:36 PM
The winning philosophy is simple: let Kahwi go off and let no one else go off.

Go watch the tape. Every time the Warriors get killed it's because someone was trying to help when they didn't need to. And most of that time it's someone trying to help out on Kawhi which leads after a pass or two to a wide open Raptor who ain't Kawhi.

and it isn't even a switching issue. look at last night. the few times there was a "mismatch" type of switch was a couple times when Looney got switched on to Kawhi (and even then sometime Looney can stay close to a guy like Kawhi). otherwise, Iggy, Klay and even McKinnie at times, are athletic enough to at least stay with Kawhi and make him take contested, if not difficult, shots. and kudos to Kawhi, he's obviously good enough to make contested shots.

so, yeah. if Kerr hasn't employed this philosophy (and it's clear he hasn't) it's bad. if he has and the players aren't executing it - still bad on him. you're the coach.

Also, some people said Klay could play last game (he sure looked completely normal last night) so if Kerr et. al. wasted Klay for Game 3 that's another "L".

and what legs said up above seems a bit silly but he's right - Nurse has been great not just on the X's and O's but at calling timeouts at the right time. i noticed it the last couple games too. he never does what most coaches do (and what always leaves me scratching my head even tho almost ALL coaches seem to do this in the NBA) which is let the Warriors avalanche happen to the point that the Raps suddenly find themselves behind by double digits. and if the Warriors are behind (which they've been since the WCF) he doesn't wait until the Warriors avalanche wears the Raptors lead down to 2 or 0. He takes timeouts and nips that shit in bud. even if he's not making X and O changes during those timeouts, just taking them is interrupting the Warriors momentum which also interrupts their confidence because there isn't another team in the league that gets more life outta those kinda runs (and oppositely kills the other team's confidence) than the Warriors.
109412, a team that primarily chunks 3s can be beaten.....
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Sat Jun-08-19 06:10 PM
regardless of how good your shooters are....it's just a high percentage way to play....and if you aren't making them..... or only have 1 or 2 guys who ARE making them...with NOTHING offensively inside the paint...

you're going to get beaten by a well rounded team...

Durant helps them overcome that style because he scores high percentage in the half court without being too 3 point dependent..

but without him.... Iggy isn't making any shots....Cook isn't making any shots.... Boogie can't run or jump and is getting abused by Ibaka …

it may not have made any difference and I know that he's been in the doghouse..... but the Warriors should have been using Jordan Bell more..particularly when Looney got hurt...they need someone who can do something inside the paint..and defend the paint... put Bell in the lineup over Iggy and move Draymond to the 3....and have him facilitate more...

overall they just getting beaten by a better all around team right now..
