Posted by southphillyman, Wed Dec-12-12 07:38 PM
waiting till the end of the season though
Luck has houston twice and they might have something to prove if NE keeps winning and makes it interesting late for seeding
dude might have another 5-6 interceptions in em. luck being on that stafford plan of putting up a gazillon attempts getting numbers ain't impressing me
let's see if this colts team is going be legit for multiple years or if this some flukey coach sick/hella shitty teams in the AFC thing this year
if RG3 can some how stay healthy in his career don't think there will be much debate
Cam and Wilson being in the discussion is just icing on the cake
108317, Luck's turnovers are awful.
Posted by will_5198, Wed Dec-12-12 07:47 PM
you cannot throw picks in the situations he's done them. I'm convinced he knows they're bad decisions too, but right now he's launching them and "hoping for the best." which is not a NFL strategy.

>the colts were not a 2-14 team last year, they were a team
>that went 2-14 bc they had orders from on high to lose games
>to get luck

i'll ask again: do you really think you can convince football players to lose on purpose, especially at the beginning of the season? no fucking way. even if they're 0-15 and they're facing another 0-15 team they'd rather end the season with some pride then get the top draft pick. it's not like the players get to pick anyways.
108329, the intent of the ORGANIZATION was to lose, players are players
Posted by philpot, Thu Dec-13-12 06:52 PM
they werent on a need to know basis

but someone high up was pulling the strings and i already mentioned his name (of course some will laugh at the notion then turn around & blame other teams owners for their inability to win)

they werent a 2-14 team period, they couldve tried to get a decent QB to hold ghem over but why do that when u can trot scrubs like painter out there to get demolished?

no matter...if Luck keeps making the horrible decisions w/ the ball like he has all year he'll end up a huge bust anyway
108330, makes sense
Posted by will_5198, Thu Dec-13-12 07:37 PM
Jim Caldwell and Bill Polian had to be in on the plan, knowing that if they successfully lost enough games their reward would be getting fired. I know Caldwell always dreamed of going from NFL head coach back to QB assistant.

there are usually a lot of good FA quarterbacks available in September, so I guess that confirms Polian being in on the plot. why settle for Kerry Collins, when he could've gotten Derek Anderson or Kyle Boller?

I think the final proof that the 2011 team was capable of 5-to-8 wins was when the new GM cut 43 players from the roster last spring. clearly, he saw their potential and decided to keep none of them.
108331, Intent is not what matters
Posted by jorge123, Thu Dec-13-12 09:06 PM
What matters is that ANY team with Painter at QB is a losing team. He could maybe push 8-8 or 9-7 on the 2007 New England Patriots. Whether the Colts intended to or not, their season was tanked by having a god awful player at the most important position for the majority of the season. Freaking Dan Orlovsky went 2-3 on that team - you don't think he could have gone 5-11 with a full year of starts?
108332, actually, dude was specifically arguing intent
Posted by will_5198, Thu Dec-13-12 09:20 PM
as to your other point tho, yes -- Polian was responsible for the awful depth at quarterback, running back, offensive line and in the secondary, which is why he was terminated. I don't think Orlovsky is a guy who has more success with more playing time, although it's conceivable he doubles the wins.

regardless, the 2011 Colts were bad (forget the quarterback, they had the statistically worst pass defense in NFL history). to compare their 2010 record is slighting Peyton Manning's individual greatness, and only 30 percent of the current 2012 team (and one coach) was involved with last year's debacle.
108333, only person that needed intent was IRSAY IRSAY IRSAY
Posted by philpot, Sun Dec-16-12 11:32 AM

I watched a ton of come backs yesterday. Stuff happened before those comebacks were needed, they still got done. I watched our guy throw a ball 3 yards when we needed 4. No matter what you wanna say, our dude had the ball in his hands with a chance to win the game (AGAIN) and he didnt get it done. Sorry that bothers me and not you. If they doesnt piss you off to no end then YES we will never see eye to eye. I do think we both want to see the team win, so we can at least agree there......I think.

108353, Did 2011 not happen?
Posted by Jayson Willyams, Mon Sep-16-13 12:00 PM
The Raiders, Cowboys, Vikings, Panthers, Tampa games that year don't count? He has 8 comeback wins in his career, all of which has been spent on the least-disciplined team in the league, with one of the worst coaching staffs, with THE worst special teams, and one of the worst secondaries. Why is your benchmark for QB play batting 1.000 in close games?

How many passes did he put in the hands or breadbasket of Pettigrew and Bell in the 2nd half yesterday, just to have them drop the ball? How many times was Peterson allowed to just rake the shit out of Calvin's arms or twist him around by the jersey? How many penalties wiping out big plays or big stops? How many times will the refs call an obvious hold against Suh's blocker? (zero. ZERO. For the rest of his goddamned career.) How many FGs can one man miss? How many drives do we have to start inside our own 10? In fact, here are the starting yardlines on all our drives yesterday.

9
11
7
20
8
21
6
20
20
20
20
20

We had better-than-a-touchback field position ONE TIME in the entire game, and that was the 21-yard-line.

For the second straight week, we had a strip-sack negated by a penalty. Speaking of which, you remember all those yellow flags yesterday, right? How many were directed at Stafford?

It's a broken record at this point. Stafford plays well enough to win. Team self-destructs around him in every way possible. Idiot fans blame Stafford. So he threw a 3-yard pass on 4th and 4. Maybe it's because everyone who ran beyond the 4 had already had a litany of drive-killing drops in the second half. Maybe the only (not-double-covered) guy he trusted to make a catch and a play was Burleson. Mathieu made a huge stop. But Burleson has made a career out of taking a short pass and making one guy miss.

I honestly wanted to start ordering the people I blame before Stafford to make my point, but rest assured, I'd be in double-digits before I got to him.

He HAS gotten it done in the 4th before. Many times. But you act like he's 0-for-infinity in his career in close games or something. It's baffling. I'm done, I'm pissed off enough at that game, I don't need this.

108370, I'm taking Josh Freeman (y'll are missing the mad rule for black QBs)
Posted by Orbit_Established, Thu Dec-13-12 08:14 AM

Mad white QBs are good 50% of the time

Mad black QBs are good 95% of the time

Mad white QBs include Marino, Ryan Leaf, Phillip Rivers

Doug Williams was one of the 8 or 9 maddest people ever
in history of the universe...he was like Django Unchained
out there saying "cracka" everytime he threw the ball in
that Superbowl

Warren Moon was extremely mad, didn't act it much during
his career but he's gone Farrakhan since retiring

McNair was quietly mad for all the SEC schools wanting
him to play defensive back

McNabb wasn't quite mad enough, which I respect, trying
to uplift an awful franchise with fat, greasy lipped,
bad breathed fans with uneven beards

Rodney Peetes chances for greatness ended the minute
he met Holly....no man on earth can be mad coming home
to the shining light of such a sun goddess

Cunningham was mad but had a gumby, and his madness
dropped in the direction of that gumby

Same way to be a successful white American boxer/basketball
player, you MUST be a little bit racist. MUST. MUST. MUST.

You know Gordon Heyward family be calling Obama the N-word
at dinner, exactly why I was high on him

Not sure about Kevin Love

But back to the subject at hand (c) Mega Montana

Freeman is blackest and maddest (that mixed anger =
the blackest, maddest anger) of the young bunch

Freeman is mad as shit

Very mad

Doubt he'll go the way of Flacco, he'll continue to
improve

He'll either FIZZLE completely OR transform into a
near hall of famer

RG3 is too frail/too likely to be exposed as openly gay
(which is fine, but will probably affect him psychologically).

Steve Smith is going to snap and kick Cam's ass in practice,
break his jaw, ruin his good looks, which his football skills
are built around....when people like Tha_Truth no longer want
to hump Cam, Cam can't play

Luck is my #2, btw

He's quietly mad, good white mad

You don't run over African-American defensive backs
with that ignorance and not be mad, I will never forget
that

He was at Stanford actively seeking out defensive backs
with gold teeth and audibling to bootlegs so he could
run them over, true story

The NC State --> Wisconsin: going from a situation

Being drafted in the 3rd round isn't that bad, actually,
when you think about it

Landing in camp with a coach who always allows
open competition = huge

The ingredients for madness are there but he's just

Rickey was mad. Reggie was mad. Jackie? Good gosh almighty.

Clemente? Aaron? JR Richards? Dave Stewart?

So madness for Blk Baseball players= greatness...right?
108386, Ok....Let's examine the black madness in baseball issue
Posted by Orbit_Established, Thu Aug-08-13 08:33 PM

>Rickey was mad. Reggie was mad. Jackie? Good gosh
>almighty.

Eh....Jackie wasn't as mad as Satchel and Satchel
was only able to play in the MLB past the age of
40, when he was too old to be mad

If Satchel had been brought up at 21, he woulda
been the best pitcher in baseball by about a mile,
but would have critically injured at least 12 batters
by bean balls and choked a few more to near death

LOL @ white people calling Satchel NAMES from the
dugout and him just putting up with it like Jackie

bwahaha nah

Wouldn't happen

White people would have been SERIOUSLY MAIMED or KILLED

Branch Rickey wasn't no fool

>Clemente? Aaron? JR Richards? Dave Stewart?

Clemente wasn't mad, had that latin happiness, prolly
cuz he didn't understand English and so didn't hear
half the shit white people were saying....he just smiled,
and threw that ball real real real well from right field
(among other things, of course)

Aaron was mad after he stopped playing, was definitely
not while he played....if he was mad, he woulda dropped
them two white hippies who followed him around them
bases (glad he didn't, that was awesome)

Dave Stewart was DEFINITELY mad, like all the time,
I'll give you that

LOL @ him COMPLETELY SCARING the shit out of Clemens...Clemens
couldn't pitch AT ALL when he faced Stew

So this is a mixed bag....baseball writers are too racist
and the fans too white and snobby; being mad WILL get under
your skin and fuck up your game, make you injury prone or
some shit

Sheffield might be my favorite hitter ever...but he started
to slide when he started getting REAL REAL mad (around Yankees
time)

Bobby Bonilla? Got mad, started sucking

Carl Everett? Got mad, started sucking

Milton Bradley? LOL. His black madness LITERALLY made his
knee fall apart...and now dude is a wife beater going to
JAIL

Delmon Young went on a racist tirade against Jews...too mad

LOTS of talented black players went by the mad wayside

Let's compare this to the Barry Larkins...the Ozzies....
Jeters....oh look at pre-Cincy Griffey...he went to Cincy
and got mad, and was TOAST....Frank Thomas started to
get mad and it fucked up his swag for a sec...he calmed down
and was good....

So being a CALM nigga always pays in baseball....oh and look
at Tony Gwynn...niggas sleep on Gywnn being a cali nigga on
some quasi-hood shit...nigga could hoop and everything....but
he wasn't mad...need I say more about where that got him?

Torii Hunter quietly has the ingredients of a mad nigga but
has kept it under wraps save for a couple of tirades...he has
a long career in a front office after he's done playing because
of it...white people LOVE Hunter

Look at CC....CC is already near Hall of Fame caliber, btw..
...he struggling now, but no starting pitcher not named Clemens
has weathered the NY media better than CC in a quarter century...
he's a big, fat lovable nigga...and he a bay area nigga so you
KNOW he's low key mad underneath that fat...he just keep his
fade tight and his smile bright en route to Cooperstown

Shit...Matt Kemp got mad after the RACIST WHITE MEDIA robbed
him of that Ryan Braun MVP...he hasn't been as good since.

Also note that Hanley Ramirez was a god early, started getting
mad, then fell off....now he back in LA being a fun loving
nigga again and is balling

Note how Pedro's arm problems started after the Barry Zito
Cy Young meltdown...I'm telling you, keep that mad to a min

108387, Whoa whoa whoa

Posted by Swol_Belly, Fri Dec-14-12 06:54 PM
Once the coaching staff get it together and the Panthers become more consistent, Cam will put fear in the opposition. We always here scrambling QBs can't win, and I reply when was the last time you seen a scrambling QB as big as Cam that can throw and know how to avoid the big hit? That is the biggest factor that separate Cam from RGIII. RG3 is a smart dude but will he learn how to protect himself and avoid the big hit??

Luck coming in second cause in 1 to 2 years the AFC south will be wide open for the Colts.
108430, I'm torn. I'm a Cowboys fan but have to say RGIII is my favorite QB..

But uh, yeah, I guess if we are taking sides, I gotta go with Luck.
108432, Please discuss: The Skins aren't any worse with Cousins.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon Dec-17-12 01:11 AM

Despite the offense not being built around him,
Cousins comes in the game and slings, makes several
amazing throws every game

So you not knowing shit about the Raiders isn't anything new.

If you would've stated something of any substance, then that would've been more than fine.

For example: T.P. doesn't have much of a chance with that coaching staff, because they're making him a pocket passer and that's not going to play to his strengths as a qb.

But you didn't.

That would've been wrong, but at least something.

course me being me I could also follow up with the fact that it won't matter & that a Terrell Pryor-led Raiders squad ain't ever going to be something that will have the league shook.

But that would just be unnecessarily real & could be misconstrued as hate so I'll bypass it.

He's been surprisingly non-awful in the first two games.

108503, couple months later, where are y'all at with him now?
Posted by Bombastic, Mon Nov-11-13 02:18 PM
Like I was saying then he was sort of surprising me with how effective he was early but now I'm pretty much leaning towards he-is-who-we-thought-he-is status after actually watching his last couple games.

Granted he may have gotten hurt in the Eagle game but if he can't pass adequately in the pocket or generate offense without using his legs, then there's not much long-term upside.

But his stats are not great, they are just fine.

Obviously Tampa looks bad, I'm not defending Tampa's handling of the situation.

But to call Freeman fabulous or very good basically discounts his actual play.

He didn't help a bad team win, he barely threw more TDs than interceptions and his rating is ok. That stuff doesn't get effected enough by a bad team.

He is average, ok, fine, mediocre and nothing else. I hope he gets out of the situation and he certainly deserves another chance because many worse qbs than him get more chances, but he is not fabulous by any stretch of the imagination

>he is not fabulous by any stretch of the imagination

I agree with this. I don't think Josh Freeman is a fabulous QB, all things considered. But he DID have one fabulous season, and the context around it makes me think he's not yet done in this league.

His 2010 season, his second year in the league, was pretty objectively fabulous. He completed 61% of his passes for ~3500 yards with 25 TDs against 6 picks. At the age of 22, with his primary weapons being Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn--that's a fabulous year (if this sounds familiar, it's virtually word-for-word ripped from Barnwell's piece last week: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/75860/the-inevitable-benching-of-josh-freeman).

I'm not arguing with you--you never said he DIDN'T have a fabulous year at one point. And I give not a shit about the whole saga in TB, and whether or not anything is objectively "fair" to anyone involved.

I just think it's worth noting that the list of QBs who got a MUCH longer leash than Freeman and never, ever had a season as good as his 2010 is a loooooooong one.
108511, That was a good season, but was also 3 years ago
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Oct-03-13 03:42 PM
All of your points are valid and others have gotten a longer leash.

But we can also both name a ton of QBs who had 1 great season and were pretty bad otherwise.

It remains to be seen if that 1 season was potential that can be tapped into, or the peak. Who is to say he isn't just Derek Anderson with 1 magic season?

The Lions D-Line just dominated the Packers, so I'm hoping we can smack Foles in the face. But the Eagles' O-Line has been very good, and our D-Line is equally as capable of disappearing for 2 weeks at a time as they are of dominating a game, so who the hell knows what will happen.

Malzahn's system has a lot more power running (blocking) for the QB. Seems like a better fit for Cam than Chip's zone style, but the option reads are very similar. Reading zone blocking is kind of an instinctual thing that cant be taught, but id imagine they could make it work even if Cam isnt great at it.

Malzahn also seems to like the deep ball a little more than Chip. But then again Chip never had a QB with Cam's arm.

Definitely interesting thought.

108562, Depends on how you look at it...
Posted by Kira, Sun Nov-22-15 08:13 PM
Russell won a ring before Cam and went to another Super Bowl so no. However, Cam is making the case for at least the number two spot. Meanwhile Luck fell off, Kaep and RG3 about to get ran out of town.
108563, Russell was barely even in the convo
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Dec-09-15 08:15 PM
It was basically Luck vs Cam vs RG3 with a bunch of side discussions and cyses.

I'd give that one to Bags.

I had Luck/Cam/RG3. Close. Maybe Luck is salvageable going forward.
108564, Nah, Russ was head & shoulders above the convo

I had Cam, Russ and RGIII (with an injury caveat) vs. Luck
Don't know why I left out Kap at this point, but good.

108574, 1. Wilson
Posted by will_5198, Wed Nov-23-16 03:04 PM
2. Newton
3. Luck
4. Cousins
5. Kaepernick

Luck and Newton have nearly identical passing production; Newton gets the edge due to his rushing numbers and Super Bowl appearance. they both have lost years (2015 Luck, 2016 Newton) on their resumes.

Wilson got a lot of credit for a great situation his first two years, but with Lynch gone everything now runs through him. his game at New England was phenomenal.
108575, i forgot dalton. where do you have him?
Posted by Flash80, Wed Nov-23-16 03:21 PM
>Wilson got a lot of credit for a great situation his first two
>years, but with Lynch gone everything now runs through him.
>his game at New England was phenomenal.

for sure.

i know carolina's D probably relaxed a little bit in the second half of the divisional game, up 31-0, but the way wilson put the game on his back and clawed back in it made me a permanent believer.

108576, Dalton ahead of Cousins
Posted by will_5198, Wed Nov-23-16 03:40 PM
both are inconsistent and benefit from the talent around them. I guess if Cousins wins a playoff game this year he gets the nod.

108580, Especially with the discussion way up higher on him not being able
Posted by soulfunk, Sun Dec-11-16 11:24 AM
to make plays in the fourth quarter to get comeback wins. (Even though even at that time he had a good number of fourth quarter comebacks.)
108581, This is his second season leading the league in 4QC and GWD

108582, And another one...
Posted by soulfunk, Sun Dec-11-16 06:24 PM
Today he even gave up a pick six on purpose so he could win and add another 4Q comeback to his resume...
108583, my bad. i realized i'd forgotten fat staff..
Posted by Flash80, Sun Dec-11-16 02:27 PM
but didn't bother to edit again... since he had at least a two-year head start on any guy still active, has a substantial career allocation of empty stats, and relationally has done the least in the 'offs versus time as a starter.

i give him a joker jail clap for this year, tho.
108584, Top 5 right today
