I figure they figure this lights a fire under Westbrook and makes him ball-out this season. They still have enough pieces to get the 4 or 5 seed in the West this year (still don't know how everything shakes out or what rosters are going to look like). Then pitch him that next year the free agent class as is even better, and they'll get him even more help.
