105734, Let's be honest...Who is the better PG right now!

To hell with all these intangibles and future potentials and plea cop mumbo jumbo...

Who is the better shooter?
Who is the better passer?
Who would you feel confident leading your team to a victory?

Who is the better PG right now? Spice or Ky Ky

I want to put an emphasis on NOW, because if we bring up the past, we would have to mention Spice shooting 48% and 49% from the field, we would have to mention him getting better assist numbers while playing in the backcourt with Monta's inaccurate gunning ass...

So let's talk about now.

2 scoring pg's
2 shooters

Who better?

Poll question: Let's be honest...Who is the better PG right now!

Poll result (47 votes)
Stephen Curry (23 votes)Vote
Kyrie Irving (24 votes)Vote

He came to the league, not really a PG at Davidson...

...came in lighting it up from the field and playing with a dominant scorer...

...shooting a phenomenal percentage from the field and from 3...

...lost the top scorer of his team and is leading his team to the playoffs and playing great team ball...

He is doing it how is should be done.

105745, Curry is the better shooter but hes average at creating his own shot
Posted by haj20, Thu Feb-28-13 12:54 PM
and I'm probably giving him too much credit by calling him average.
105746, You literally haven't watched a minute of Stephen Curry since Davidson

He is fabulous at creating his own offense.

Kyrie would be dreaming of an all star bid this year as well...

it's cool to hype him up, I get it...

but he doesn't shoot better than Spice
he doesn't have better court vision than Spice

he just dribbles better, but Spice will tap them ankles...

neither are defensive stoppers

Spice should get far more credit for the success he is having.

Kyrie couldn't even win with Varejao...all the apologists were on that, but but but he needs better teammates...

A nigga name Festus started more than half of the season for Golden State

Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson rounded out the starters...

that Golden State team is NOT amazing at all.

this will be revisited come playoffs...

in case you weren't aware

Playoffs are what happens at the end of a season when teams that are good (the top 8 from each conference) get together to see who is the best of the league.

I know you have never seen Kyrie play in one so it may seem like a myth, but they happen every year.

Harrison Barnes will be there in the playoffs with Spice so when they start, you have some motivation to actually watch.

you are watching a thing of beauty with Spice...
any other player shooting 43% his rookie year 44% his second year 45% his third year and 46% this season ( FROM 3) would get praise...

46% 48% 49% and a drop at 44% this season are great numbers from the field

and putting up 6.5 assists to Festus, Harrison, Klay, Dramond and nem...

I mean Kyrie's 6.5 assists a game is good too...

oops, I mean 5.6 (fucking dyslexia)

get your pleas ready for May

105763, What do you have against David Lee?
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Feb-28-13 07:24 PM
Besides his not helping your agenda.

Curry is playing with Lee, Jarrett Jack and two youngsters who know their role.

Kyrie's playing alongside Waiters who is figuring out what the hell to do, Tristan Thompson who is the king of the low impact double-double, Tyler Zeller, and Alonzo Gee. And while I respect the shit out of Shaun Livingston for remaining in the league after his injury issues, he's not exactly 6th man material.

Steph deserves more recognition for what he's been doing and Kyrie definitely is in danger of becoming a fun player to watch but not necessarily a winning PG but Steph is most certainly playing on a much better team.

Lee = Anderson...

If Kyrie w/ Anderson was winning most of the games, I wouldn't have an argument...

but when Anderson went down for the season, they were like 5-22

27 games in Golden State were 18-9

with Festus, Barnes, Klay, Spice and Lee in the starting lineup...

AGAIN

Festus, Barnes (rookie), Klay and Lee

somehow Waiters figuring out is worse than Harrison's?????

Tristan Thompson who is the king of the low impact

Festus Ezeli is the king of the low impact NOTHING AT ALL!!!

Tristan is good and early in the season he was low impact and trash, but now he is decent right???

FOH

Tyler Zeller, and Alonzo Gee. And while I

Golden State is not much better... if they ARE better it's because STEPH MAKES THEM BETTER!!!!

Imagine the shit I will talk if Cleveland plays ANOTHER game without Kyrie and pulls off a W

but his team is MUCH WORSE...FOH

Steph - Kyrie
Waiters - Klay
Anderson (Half a season)/Tristan - Lee
Zeller - Ezeli
Barnes - Gee
Speights - Landry
Miles - Green
Livingston - Jefferson

these teams are scrubs but one plays as a team and the other are the Cavs

105765, You conveniently left out Jarrett Jack

who's been HUGE for that team.

Here's the breakdown of the top 8 so far this season.
C: Anderson/Zeller vs Bogut/Festus
PF: Tristan vs. David Lee
SF: Gee vs. Barnes
SG: Waiters/Boobie vs. Klay
PG: Livingston vs. Jack
SF: Miles vs. Jefferson
PF: Speights (15 games)/Luke Walton vs. Carl Landry
F: Luke Walton vs. Draymond Green

Center is the only position that the Warriors are worse at and the benches aren't even close.

Cleveland is MUCH better

Lee has Tristan faded but Tristan is far from a slouch

I am TEAMBARNES but remind me why is what makes Gee suck in comparison? Their numbers are similar and Gee has put up more points.

Gee has a slight advantage but you could call it a wash

>SG: Waiters/Boobie vs. Klay

Again... Waiters 17.9 and about 4 ast off 41% while trade bait Klay giving you 16 with the same %

advantage Waiters

>PG: Livingston vs. Jack

Advantage Jarret Jack

>SF: Miles vs. Jefferson

Miles in a landslide

>PF: Speights (15 games)/Luke Walton vs. Carl Landry

close to a wash but Landry has been more solid

>F: Luke Walton vs. Draymond Green

advantage Green

So the Warriors have 3 rookies (2 of which have started most of the season) and Klay with some journeymen and David Lee....and that is much better than Cleveland...

yet Cleveland manages to win without Kyrie...

not buying it.

after his best game EVAR in fact.

i LOOVE curry. he was my second pick in survivor despite pre-season ankle scare number 2. kyrie is still better. there are really good guards out there.

and don't even bullshit. it doesn't have shit to do with who was in in the east....kyrie would have definitely made it. rondo was replaced by a dude already. if rose was a factor kyrie still would have been over half of the reserves. if you want to just look at the position he's clearly in over jrue.
105771, I voted Kyrie but its interesting when you said this

>i'm almost certain kyrie has a string of top 3 mvp years

I thought about it more and looked into their numbers. Everything is pretty similar from regular to advanced stats. Steph actually beats Kyrie in a lot of categories and has more wins (typical OKS argument)

I think the big argument is Steph's injury proneness.

Kyrie has a big hype machine behind him and I say this in a complimentary way--because its deserved. Whats a better word for hype machine? Just a lot of people love him right now--he's basically hate proof in the media. The only place Ive seen him hated on is this board. Reminds of Blakes rookie year when he could do absolutely no wrong.

Steph in the east mightve gotten that spot over Kyrie because of wins.

Kyrie has a higher ceiling imo but the original post said right now.
105772, Kyrie's not exactly an iron man.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Feb-28-13 07:33 PM
If the big argument against Steph is injuries, then Steph wins since Kyrie seems to be just as injury prone so far.
105773, i think it's more that steph is 4 years older
Posted by rob, Thu Feb-28-13 07:52 PM
the ankle obviously is a factor

gstate's offensive reputation and underappreciated coaching are factors...and the roster is a lot better. cleveland has a lot of talent but almost no experience. no one on the roster has experience winning other than being open for kobe and bron.

him being the best thing on all star weekend since durant playing horse is a factor

but its mostly about age and upside. steph could still be ray allen good or hall of fame good without winning any mvps.
105774, yea age too but again the question just asks, right now

NO RIGHT NOW!

105776, 1) RIGHT NOW is some pick up ball shit which means nothing
Posted by rob, Thu Feb-28-13 08:08 PM
there is the past. there is the future.

2) RIGHT NOW kyrie is slightly better too if you look at raw numbers and clearly better (imo) if you factor in conditions around him.
105777, foh...
Posted by FromTheGo, Thu Feb-28-13 08:17 PM
The ONLY THING Kyrie does better is dribble.

ONLY

Steph can score
Steph shoots better, quick release
Steph better court vision

Steph is a better PG

simple

not one reason Kyrie should be picked over him that doesn't begin with....in 3 years....
105778, except they play the games RIGHT NOW
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Thu Feb-28-13 08:21 PM
Kyrie is clearly more valuable, but is he BETTER? This is a legitimate question.
105779, big diff between Steph and ray allen though
Posted by Amritsar, Fri Mar-01-13 10:07 AM

>
>but its mostly about age and upside. steph could still be ray

Steph creates his own shots off the dribble, and is a CAREER 45 pct from three. 45 pct is a really good avg for a catch and shoot guy like Ray (whose avg is closer to .40 i think), but for a PG who isnt playing off the ball coming off screens ...that's an amazing stat all things considered
105780, gstate's roster is a lot better, but have they been healthy all season?

we've won without our starting center, replacing him with a cat named Festus Ezeli lol... and Brandon Rush (big contributor on defense for us last year) went down the first weeks of the season

two crucial injuries right there, but it hasn't fazed us becuase Steph has been lights out

Cleveland's roster doesn't have much exp winning, true. But GS STate's roster does???? ... difference is we have a PG who is carrying this team on his back right now

...so much right

105807, The dude made polls about Kyrie vs. *everybody,* dude.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Nov-05-15 11:53 AM
This is the same guy who insisted that Isaiah Thomas was better than Kyrie in a poll.

This is the same guy who insisted that the Cavs should trade Kyrie and roll with Jeremy Pargo because he made them a better team.

He didn't even *really* get this post as right as he could've because he said to waive all future potential considerations, and while Curry *did* end up with better stats than Kyrie in 2012-2013, it was not the level of better he is today.

2012-2013:
Curry: 22.9/4/6.9/1.6/.2/45% from the field/45% from 3
Kyrie: 22.5/3.7/5.9/1.5/.4/45% from the field/39% from 3

He was just doing what he always did: firing buckshot style shots at Kyrie in attempts to provoke a poster who would fire shots at Rose. I'm not convinced he really believed in any of what he said (in fact, I think in that Pargo post, he more or less admitted that he was doing all of these Kyrie posts just to troll).

When you combine the context of FromTheGo's posting history with the fact that 2012-2013 was by *far* Curry's best season to date, it's easy to see why so many people disagreed with this post (though no one could possibly defend Haj's breakdown of Curry, not even then).

*EDIT*: in fact, I now see that FromTheGo *waited* to make this post until the day Kyrie was having an MRI on his injured knee. He didn't even make this post until after the season was over halfway through *and* one of the players was hurt, in order to make his "W" as cheap and cowardly as humanly possible. Good grief.
