But what can he do in the NBA that will open up those lanes? Like you pointed out with kendall marshall. He has more tools than Marshall but by how much?

The college 3 is markedly different than the pro 3 and doesnt always translate. Great you shoot 41% from 20 feet. 41% fg shooter in the NBA is mediocre. In the NBA the 20 foot jumpshot is a dinosaur. Whether you like the trend or not, people generally dont shoot it anymore. The spacing on the court is just different. Really becoming a deadly shooter will open things up for him - so hes gotta put in work there.
