Why was Larry Bird mentioned at all?
If being an active NBA player was the requisite, then Bird wouldn't have been mentioned in the story.
He was, in fact, mentioned because despite the fact that he was retired, his story was still relevant to the topic.
His story wasn't featured on the cover, however, because we like to bash 20-something black guys more than we do 40 something white guys, for being bad fathers. The former fits the stereotype and will likely sell more magazines to white people who do nothing but blame niggers for America's problems anyway.
