Sonnet poetry
The sonnet is a fourteen line lyric poem.
Lyric means the poem expresses a person's emotions.
It was developed in Italy in the Renaissance.
The poet Petrarch used the form to write a famous
series of poems about his love Laura.
The Renaissance English poet Thomas Wyatt
introduced the sonnet form into English.

Sonnet poems could be about anything you want them to be.
Like any other type of poetry it could express how the persson feels inside.
Its a way for people to express their feelings

Excellent Example: (told you I was gonna use you today!! *wink*)

I've cut and pasted it here just in case you're 1.) too lazy to click on the link, or 2) it falls off before it gets archived.

"Modern Shakspearean Sonnet"

LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-03 AT 05:25 PM (EST)

CoNflICt(eD)

Intertwined with mine eyes are hers and hope,

blanketed by sleep and earthly conflict.

Worn obtuse are the tools with which to cope.

War governs Earth, but patience doth restrict

indulgences; Selective moderations

merely flirt with sleep. Miles of blue in green

sing dirges and steer poor men's vacations

while better days resolute earth hath seen.

This middle-self mocks middle-Eastern scrums,

one struggle fueled with love, the other--hate...

and both acknowledge when the evening comes

eclipsing darkness we, as men, create.

Since distance and sleep jail her upturned lips,

to savor peace, I taste her smile in sips.
