So here's the deal. A long time ago, somebody (can't remember who..though I think it was Anthology) suggested that we should put together an anthology of works by the Okayplayer Freestyle Board. Folks got giddy, but nothing ever occurred. Well...I think that needs to happen.

Now...since we ARE artists, I know our skills on this board are not limited to just writing poetry or rhymes or short stories. So...I think this book should reflect all of our talents.

This book should contain rhymes, poetry, artwork, short stories...and whatever happens to fall into the submissions folder.

I'm asking that this post be anchored because this is a community (freestyle community) based project and EVERYONE's input will be needed.

So far, I've set up an email account for all items regarding this project, and just signed up for a free website to hold some of our info as well. We'll need teams to work on different aspects. I will be posting response threads to this with things like committe signups, brainstorming signups and all of that.

If you would like to participate, signup under the proper response thread.

If you are only interested in submitting your work, we'll have details as to how many pieces will be needed for the book once all of that has been decided by the committee.

An editing committee (this will include someone who knows copyrighting procedures)
Marketing committee
Design committee

that's all I can think of right now...I just woke up not too long ago.

I am interested in signing up for a commitee as well as submitting work. I will however need for you to sort of go into detail about what each commitee will be responsible for. I can't really verbalize what I want to say right now so that will have to do until I can.

id like to be on the editing committee...ill give my final decision next week.

i was thinking about that...but I think we actually need permission from okayplayer in order to put their name on any of our products...especially if we're selling it.

licensed to the site, but paid for by the Artists that the site promotes. To use the name would assume that The Roots and them supported this project. They don't.

Or something similar rather. But unfortunately, Im not sure if we were able to get a solid agreement on how it should work and everything.

still working on details, because this is the first time i've done anything like this, so it's taking me a minute to get desc. of committees needed out.

in the meantime, can ya'll think up some titles and email them to the email address. at the end of the week, i'll post a poll or a response in this thread to help decide the title of the anthology (may as well get that out the way). PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE THE WORDS "OKAY PLAYER" IN THE TITLE AS WE DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THE TERMINOLOGY.

Submission Guidelines:

- Okplayer name
- Real name
- 1 to 2 line blurb about yourself
- submission (of course...if someone else has a better idea, then by all means let me know)
(Poetry: 2 short, or 1 long)
(Short Stories: 1 only (because it takes multiple pages)
(rhymes: see poetry)
(artwork: 1 - 2 pieces)

please make it as final as possible.

also specify which one it is (poem, short story, rhyme...you catch my drift)

can we get some specification on what makes a poem/rhyme a "long" one?

but we can't use okayplayers under any circumstances (copyright infringement...plus they didn't give us permission...we asked)

Now that we know what to do- Del, make a thread with just the pertinent info. I.E. submission requirements, due dates, e.t.c. I'll anchor that post, but I think this one has served its purpose. If we're gonna do this (which we are) lets keep it moving so the inspiration doesn't get dry and fall off.
I'd hit up Mute and Paperdoll, because they worked on something like this before too.
