Posted by Zin, Wed Oct-05-05 10:03 AM
Yeah yeah yeah ….it’s ya poster’s favorite poster Zugga Zin in the building again with this weeks jump off. Aww man Aww man this week is clasSick two poets going head to head ….for what may prove to be the first of many poet battles to jump off in the jump off we call WNF’s …gyeah! In order to maintain the integrity both the poets names have been withheld so you will need to vote as Poet one or Poet 2 Also the topic has been with held until now!!!! This weeks topic for poetry is something we need to all not forget about AIDS….. let’s get it cracking!!!!

P.S. Don’t for get to check for the flyers in reply number two…. And let’s get at Yukon about this month’s YUKON MAG!!!!! WTF!!!!!!

Poet 1

The Ninja

He paints a perfect picture,
and tells a flawless lie,
He sings a song of beauty,
A haunting lullaby.

His song is one of sorrow,
A portrait of his life,
And those who hear are captured,
Haunted by it's strife.

He will leave you crying,
and will wipe away your tears,
But compassion is a falsehood,
Created over years.

His brush will penetrate you,
A knife straight through your heart,
it's poison will plague your footsteps,
A seductive work of art.

His lullaby will sooth you,
His song will give you wings,
His mournful voice will trap you,
Every time he sings.

The song is one of anguish,
An image of your fate,
But you won't know it's purpose,
Until it's far too late.

Her acid tears will burn you,
Her knives will slash your skin,
Her crimson blood will stain you,
Empowering you to grant others eternal sin.

With silent steps he'll slay you,
His shadow will let your soul fly,
His purpose is flawless sorrow,
Death's haunting lullaby.

"1.the ninja
(n): acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)
a serious (often fatal) disease of the immune system transmitted through blood products especially by sexual contact or contaminated needles.
Given the name Ninja because it sneaks up on you. One day your fine.... the next day your dying. "

POET 2

Altho.Im.Dying.Slowly

altho.im.dying.slowly
will you still hold me
and love me like you did
that night
when friendship morphed
and flesh meshed into one mold
you were my personal savior
everything that was me
became yours to hold
so hold me now
as i wilt into the earth
and travel back thru my history
of mystic fruit hanging from shea trees
this is a strange sort of humility

as.i.depart.sadly
i need your
hand to stroke me
urge me to close my eyes
so that visions of african lilacs
swaying and bending in elysian breezes
can somehow overwhelm
the potion of death
you gave me

and.i.drank.swiftly
your nectar that
tainted me
and now i travel
in dreams
to asiatic laboratories
and fester in petri dishes
under the eyes of evil scientists
whose ambition is fueled by fear
of the supreme awakening

as.i.die.slowly
i need the world to cradle me
in her bosom
and not be afraid
of serous fluid
seeping from lesions
that are the end result
of the way you loved me
and the way she loved him
and he loved he
and they loved it

i thought both were pretty good....i like how the first poet personified death

"His brush will penetrate you,
A knife straight through your heart,
it's poison will plague your footsteps,
A seductive work of art."

uh! i can actually feel this!

"Her acid tears will burn you,
Her knives will slash your skin,
Her crimson blood will stain you,
Empowering you to grant others eternal sin"

deadly! (no pun intended)

the second poet's imagery with lines like the following were ill:
"when friendship morphed
and flesh meshed into one mold"

"..travel back thru my history
of mystic fruit hanging from shea trees
this is a strange sort of humility"

this is just too sick!

"...visions of african lilacs
swaying and bending in elysian breezes
can somehow overwhelm
the potion of death
you gave me"

WOW

in conclusion, i'm a huge fan of personification, but when metaphoric images grip me, they often take me further out

VOTE: Poet 2

Hmmmmm...A ninja is an interesting metaphor for this monster. I liked all of Poet 1's language and imagery. I was very drawn in. But Poet 2 was um...I 'on know. Sum'n. This grabbed me the most...

>as.i.die.slowly
>i need the world to cradle me
>in her bosom
>and not be afraid
>of serous fluid
>seeping from lesions
>that are the end result
>of the way you loved me
>and the way she loved him
>and he loved he
>and they loved it

Yeah...they not knowin. Love it man.

16886, Poetry Battles ... ???

>for what may prove to be the first of many poet battles to jump off in the jump off we call WNF’s …gyeah!

See -- That sounds like an "OXYMORON" within itself -- (A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence or a mournful optimist) -- Cuz for the most part -- POETRY AIN'T ABOUT BATTLING! -- And tho poetry don't have to be soft, serene, or peaceful necessarily -- The "word" (((BATTLE))) don't belong no where near the word *POETRY* -- :P -- (Don't trip! -- that's just my opinion aaiight?)

But Poetry Battles are stupid! -- (Again, my opinion)

But ^This^ beautiful duet display (exhibition) -- Where we have the opportunity to just choose which one we felt the most/or liked the best -- Ain't a BATTLE! -- So you need to call that shit summmthin' else besides "POETRY BATTLE" -- Wit yo aggressive, carnivore, BeefEatin', ~battlegallack~ mentality! -- :P -- *chuckles*

16887, then call it a poetry competition
Posted by Ezzsential, Thu Oct-06-05 11:20 AM
you labeling it as a battle makes it seem like the poems have to consist things such as braggadocio lyrics and/or punchlines, etc

but in a poetry battle there is usually a topic given and it is judged based on quality/creativity

so, just because it is labeled as a battle doesnt mean that it is the same as a rap battle

so call it something else ... i.e. poetry competition

-lol I write battle verses to Mariah Carey songs...

16891, JUST READ!!! Heh...
Posted by Auriz Deep, Wed Oct-05-05 08:24 PM
Wow... this was pretty good. But... Poet 1's got it... just a subject that I haven't seen touched as much, and the poet executed it well... it was just... entrancing all the way through..

The 2nd poem had better PIECES, but overall didn't hold me as well... but it was good, no doubt.
