8997, Thanks for the Benmories.
Posted by Mosaic, Wed Mar-12-03 10:55 AM
i know there are a few "Ben goes Hollywood, Ditches the Roots" posts out there, but i'm a firm believer in looking back on the good times.

so, feel free to share your Benmories; here are mine:

- the time he rocked out on stage with Black Sabbath's "Iron Man"

- the time he said something really funny in that one post

- the time he made me and Arnold watch that pornographic cartoon. we finally told the adults and it got him in trouble, but we were all better people for it.
8998, Seriously....
Posted by k_flow, Wed Mar-12-03 11:03 AM
He's only "Ben" on board for one album & then decides it's time to bail, seems suspect, he'd probably be begging to come back if his own group doesn't work out. Mr. Sometimey?

btw.
what does been usually do for his solo, I was at a roots show 2 weeks ago, but had to leave before the show ended.

- he'll show up at mtv $2bill spots, the beat's slowdown and other big events

- we'll see him in own twix commercial

- we'll hear ben perform "if your mother only knew" on a double necked gibson, playing the riff and the rhythm guitar, AT THE SAME TIME

i was like he is really really feeling ben sing!

(to give you idea listen to ben run on the "pussy galore" radio skit we did--i'll put full songs up later---we did a manyunk malt liquor commercial) it's only .4 seconds ("to get me some malll maa ohhh ohh...") but it is classic shit.

No shit? When did this happen? I always thought of him as the quiet one that had the most wisdom like an old Indian that said nothing but "someone coming" yet when he said it everyone listened. Plus I though the was pretty damn good too. Hope its not true, but if It is I guess I can wish him best of luck... and continue to ask myself where does he get those wonderful shoes/boots.

I'll miss his crazy remarks on the boards. I can't say that i'm not excited to see him perform "The Warmth" live, that's my shit!

9061, The skinny light skin dude...
Posted by NOMAD_77, Mon Mar-17-03 03:12 PM
1st time I peeped Ben with the Legendary was at Smoking Grooves August 2002. It was difficult to see the stage cause me and my girl were seated far right. Occasionally I'd catch a glimpse of this skinny light skin dude with guitar in hand. "Alright. That must be the new guy". To confuse me further I could just see over the speakers what looked like two drum sets, totally unaware that Knuckles had 'also' joined.

Seeing Ben's final performance with the Roots in Philly was a pleasure. Looked like he was havin' fun on stage. That water effect thing up the guitar's neck was cool. During his solo the lights were turned down. The stage was dark with splashes of blue & purple light and Ben barely visible in the background. Intentional or not the low lighting gave his solo a personal feel. Just closed my eyes and focused on the music while Ben turned that guitar out very soulfully.

Ben, your presence as a Root and on the boards is always welcome.

**does Dr. Spock hand symbol**

Good luck and see you around.

our man ?uest was m.i.a. so vatoben held down the hour+ show on the drums, solos and e'rything, as the roots rocked a free show for the people.

that was like, whoa. 'nuff respect to brother ben.

(on a side note, maybe my wife will FINALLY stop talking about how cute he is...)
