What DP needs to do is go all-out, ball-to-the-wall style like Black Flag did back in their heyday. They need to get in a van, with all their equipment - turntables, mics, speakers, etc. and do a garage tour of ghettos across the country. Make the shows DIY and super-hyped. If they are activists first and artists second, they won't care about not making money, so long as they spread the word.

If they want to enlarge their black fan base, they need to speak to the people. It sure ain't gonna get down via tv, radio or any other mainstream media device, because we all know DP is too radical for all that. They actually speak the truth.

As a white fan of DP, I can understand why they would want to increase the number of black heads at their shows, but I also beleive that alienating a white audience who might agree with all the politics behind the music would be a terrible idea. DP's biggest strength right now, probably, is all the radical white kids out there - from anarchists to backpackers - who enlighten the ignorant about real shit.
