btw, the album will be called "ten: theogony beast", not "the tipping point." quest is only trying to fool with ya.

Blackstar - You definitely can't go wrong with a Hi-Tek produced track featuring the lyrical scientists.

Ghostface - Imagine Ghost on the "Pussy Galore" track or "Break U Off"... nuff said.

Jay-Dee, Common, De La Soul, Tip - A 2004 Scenario track. Man that would be killa hot!!! Alternates could be Pharoahe Monch, Slum Village, and THE BAND!!! (lol, just kidding)

And FINALLY?!?!?!?!?!?!

Malik B.

if i was producing...which is the first thing The Roots need...lol j/k ?uesto, i'd would call in

1. Outkast - especially after their album blows the fuck up again.

2. Jack White - Thought would've killed "7 Nation Army".

3. Timbaland - cuz Thought would kill one of his joints, plus The Roots sounded so good playing back those Timbo beats for Jay. ok ok, Missy can do the hook. (hey ya want luv right ?uest)

4. Nas - just becuz

5. Thicke - cuz the brotha can sing dammit...plus my boy works at his studio and knows him well...lol
6930, jack white came into my head too

was org. there before jaguar, but didn't he say something ignorant about hip-hop once? quest talking about the white stripes in the interview would make it seem like he'd be down.

i also imagined meg white on a song. then i laughed and almost gagged.

Posted by Anonymous, Tue Sep-02-03 11:05 AM
i never thought Meg White, she sucks, plus what would she do? her and ?uest would have a drum off to see who gets to lay drums on the track. HA, needless to say, we know who would win...........Meg of course.

Ok, here's a few jefleejohnson-esque ideas :

I'd let them do an album with nothing but features ... (like the Brand New Heavies did, only updated & better) : have Rakim, Nas, KRS, Kool G Rap, Kane, J-Live, Pharoahe, Akhenaton & Shurik'N (French), Q-Tip, Gangstarr, MC Mello & Jonzi D (UK), Eminem, ... riming along with Thought and the band.

Either that or NOT ONE single feature outside the Roots camp

Musicwise I'd ask for input by Quincy Jones, Toots Thielemans, Marcus Miller, Renée Neufville, ...

Include a drummer battle on a song, for instance ?uest vs Poogie Bell (e.g. each doing one verse), or ?uest vs a dj (Q-Bert or A-Trak).

Include the occasional freestyle session/studio outtake as interludes and you have a hiphop album like we haven't seen in over a decade, where artists gather based on music, not on what the label or the management wants.

Don't know if it's possible though, the way hiphop is much more business than music now (compared to early 90's), and of course it would only confirm the Roots' status as perfect hiphop band (which we already know), and maybe shine more light on the featured artists than on the Roots themselves.

Another route would be to skip the big names (and their big fees), and work with a slew of talented but unknown people.

And spend less time in expensive studios, and build your own instead, or at least do the tracking at 'home' and only mix at Sigma or Electric Lady.

Just some ideas.

Toots Thielemans.. Good call..

>(Q-Bert or A-Trak).

Seriously, why haven't i thought of this.. Brilliant..

Yep.. I heard Quest say a while ago that he would pay big money to have that 'vintage' type of sound and that that's the beauty of those old records.. He uses expensive microphones and shit anyways.. He's a perfectionist.. And it still can be done.. Cody chesnutt did it.. In his bedroom.. Good call Krewc..

random order

Sade
Eminem (or Tre Hardson)
Karen Briggs (yanni's violin player)
Herbie Hancock

and last but not least (along with what i want to hear them do)...

...DJ Quik: establish a few basic elements of the groove/beat for a song. then break it into back-&-forth segments where they alternate production on those basic rhythm/melody guidelines. example: verse1=quest, chorus1=quik, verse2=quik, chorus2=quest, thirdpart=both beats playing over each other, or both producers making the third part as a team.

Quest and Quik are 2 of my fav producers, but their sounds are different enough where it would really create a cool juxtaposition to hear track where the production and interpretation alternates back and forth between parts.

yeah, that was on purpose, not because i'm an illiterate one-handed monkey puncher.

don't believe me?

brin it on.

oh and UP.
