what was the first thing that you thought when you heard about "citizens against the boondocks", and was it your choice as to how the characters would sound... do their voices in the show match up with the voices you had for them in your head before ever thinking about an animated show?
46383, co-sign...

cuz the voices don't seem to match up in my head.

46384, I think the voices don't match up because people forget these

are little boys...and most little boys pre pruberty sound like little girls. So its fitting.
46385, Huey's could've been a smidget lower
Posted by prophet j, Sat Jan-14-06 01:23 AM
and if you're gonna play the realistic game, you could make the argument that it's highly unlikely huey would be that intelligent and book-smart at age 9/10/11 and that he and riley most likely wouldn't have been able to slide their way right into the r. kelley trial.

It's on the Cartoon Network.
46390, I've got a few
Posted by Hitokiri, Thu Nov-03-05 10:34 PM
Lots of fans, myself included, do not like the voices--escpecially that of Huey(too feminine, high etc.), why was these voice actors(esp. Regina King) the ones chosen?

When will we see merchandise and when will the dvds be released?
46391, well how masculine do you want a 5-year old to sound?! wtf?!

Who's 5? No one in the strip is 5.
Huey is 10 years old.
and you can't listen to Regina King's Huey, and tell me that voice is not too feminine for him and fits his personality.
46393, RE: well how masculine do you want a 5-year old to sound?! wtf?!
Posted by imperial, Sun Nov-06-05 01:23 AM
shoulda used REDMAN and METH for the two boys.
or even BUSTA

we all know kids dont have masc. voices, but its pretty resounding that regina aint it. i can live with it, but i gotta believe there's a better voice for huey and riley out there.
46396, Aight ill drop a few
Posted by BlacKnightSC, Fri Nov-04-05 04:28 AM
His opinion on Reginald Hudlin become the Chief of Entertainment on BET and how it may change the network?

Why Regina King for the voices of the kids and not a real ghetto kid for Riley and a smart sounding black kid for Huey?

Why did he edit the episode with Rosa Parks instead of waiting for another season to air it?

His opinion on Rosa Park's importance to the civil rights movement?

What does he think of 50's response to Kanye's infamous quote "George Bush doesnt care about black people"

it is on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, not Comedy Central.

all young boys in cartoons are usually voiced by women.

as for my question to Aaron...

are we finally going to see Hiro (asian kid who is apparently a dj) and some of the other characters that were supposed to surface in the strips but never did?

is the TV-MA because of the use of the word nigga in the show or is it something else (i.e. cursing)? (i guess this one will be answered once i watch the show)
46400, RE: Ask Aaron McGruder a question / the Boondocks animated series
Posted by butterball_fly, Fri Nov-04-05 03:27 PM
aside from regina's voice, why no black female characters?

and if jaz dubois is still voiceless, holla. but i guess your ignoring my emails years ago saying i wanted to be her voice whenever a cartoon or movie was created shoulda been a hint, nah?

glad you exist.

46401, Aside from OKPs, who do you think will be watching the pilot episode?

46402, are there plans for a feature length Boondocks film in the future?
Posted by Belief, Fri Nov-04-05 05:07 PM
I know the tv series will have to garner an audience for a feature length film first, but is the idea even in the back of your mind at this stage?
46403, If he's an OKArtist, why he never post?
Posted by prime thought, Fri Nov-04-05 05:46 PM
or does he...
46404, Is it cool to stream the show at a low bitrate?

Plans for DVD?

I tried it Friday night and that's the message I got.

Hmm ... so I guess my question would be this: any plans to get the show picked up by a Canadian network? And I know someone asked this question already but I really want to repeat it again: why no black female characters? Any plans for that in the show/strip in the future?

I really enjoy the strip. And I hope the show takes off well. ^_^ Thought I'd add that, too.
46409, Thats true but you can still find a way to watch it

on TV. ;)
46411, My question is
Posted by ya Setshego, Sun Nov-06-05 05:23 PM
about the strip. How is huey reunited w/ Jasmine after 2 years, when he JUST stayed in her house w/ his family while the Katrina victims stayed in the Freeman house? Wouldn't they have seen Jasmine THEN, since they were living w/ Tom, temporarily?
46412, The Jazmine/Huey strips were reruns
Posted by Cassy, Sun Nov-06-05 06:16 PM
If you look at the copyright on those strips, they say 2004 and not 2005 because they first ran last year.
46413, Oh
Posted by ya Setshego, Tue Nov-08-05 07:36 PM
I had not seen them before. It was a silly story-line anyway.
46414, How did the idea of a tv series come about?
Posted by Soularson, Sun Nov-06-05 05:37 PM
46415, A la "Fight Club," if you could fight any celebrity...
Posted by Soularson, Sun Nov-06-05 05:40 PM
who would you fight? Lol, stole that from Common interview some time ago. Interesting question anyway.

I heard you done something offensive to a republican. You were speaking at a convention, someone said 4 more years and the story kinda got lost from there. What happened?
46417, USUALLY women are the voices of animated pre-pubesent boys
Posted by MME, Sun Nov-06-05 07:16 PM
but they're mostly for CAUCASIAN boys. Cuz let's face it, most little white boys sound like girls before their voices change.

I think that could'be been why they used REgina King for the voices of the boys, even though they're black.
46418, little boys period sound like girls
Posted by lingo, Mon Nov-07-05 04:05 PM
46419, Where is MC??
Posted by 9er, Sun Nov-06-05 08:01 PM
Why isn't Ceasar on the show or website listing or characters? He's Huey's best friend!!!

Hip hop is to poetry what being Black is to noire!!

They prolly gonna introduce Caesar in the same way they did in the strip.

"Where are all the Black people?"

"We are the only black people"

"Quit playin! Is Rap City on or something?"

Post script writing, what exactly do you work on day to day regarding the show? Do you actually do the drawing/storyboards, work with the voice actors, or do you handle more of the business side of things?
46424, How come you and Chris McGruder
Posted by djradius, Mon Nov-07-05 03:56 PM
dont get along.. he wont tell me.. We went to Illinois Institute of Art here in Chicago I asked em 2 years ago.. dope show btw.. the animation was and still is sick

This is my first OKP post, I've been looking at this site for almost a year and never post before, but I couldnt resist asking Mr. Aaron Mcgruder a question.

I thought the show was awesome, and it turns out that one of my college professors is even going to show the episode to the class, I was very excited to hear that. My quetstion for Aaron McGruder would be
"Are you worried about portraying different stereotypes on your show, because some viewers might accept these rather than see the show as a way to break down and redefine all kinds of common misconceptions?" This is a question that I would ask about almost all progressive shows, which I feel can often serve a different purpose than intended.

what did it take to actually get the boondocks on air as in what negotiations were made on what "they" were willing to let you do and/or say? What were the discussions like between you and the TV execs. How did you go about choosing the voices and lastly...what else can we expect.
