this is like 1990s motown or something...
the magic is gone.
the label is completely bastardized now.

i remember as little a time ago as 1998 every def jam signee seemed in place...
you had:
dmx, jayz, redman, method man, ja rule, onyx, foxy brown, cormega
then holding down the old school u had ll cool j, epmd, slick rick...

it was truly a force to be reckoned with...

now you get acts like lady sovereign? whoever else JIG signed to that godforsaken label...

im just not interested in anything def jam has to offer anymore, and thats putting it as nicely as possible.

that was 8 years ago.
contemporize man, contemporize.

ghost, luda, redman, nas, the roots...and you know jay-z is gonna come out with an album sooner or later.

seems like a solid lineup to me.

Speaking of the kid, im guessing he got dropped cause of jay... heard that mood music 2... that kids a beast, but he sound angry as hell! But it still goes Fed.

But back too the topic... hate to say it but between jay and dame, they both never really been the best scouts as far as talent goes... Beine Segal, has always been a beast and so has freeway.... memph has always baffled me cause he can drop a hot verse but can't make an album to save his life... KanYe, they never wanted to sign, he had to make them want him and he proly by far became one of the best things to hit the Roc

Looking at the defjam roster on the website... um i donno if its dated or not but I don't see any major changes to the lineup at Jay's hand most have been there for a lil min (LL, Ghost, Juelz, Luda & DTP) I saw the interview and heard them say Nas was signed (or a "partner") and heard through hearsay bout the roots<< is that fact

can't speak much about the singing acts other than Ne-Yo looks like Michelangelo (Mike jones looks like Donatello... i wonder if the rest switch over to the music biz?}( ) and Rihanna look like Rue Paul
45155, um no need to diss joey

I do not know about the current status of
Def Jam Left, but it has the creative forces for
Revolutionizing Def Jam Left & Def Jam
into the giant of music.

Overall DEF JAM can become the Music Industry's Goliath.

Not d**kRiding Quest (do not have a need),
but with his Music knowledge
from Lord knows
how many Generations and Catagories
he can pull off a bountiful blessing
of (DIVERSE) Music w/ different talent.

D'Angelo, like Michael Joseph Jackson
sought out some of the best in the industry
for the collaborative effort on Voodoo.
The same can be done on Left Jam..Def Jam.
It's not a black book, but I ...well never mind. 20.. .

Oh heck, I would be here all nite writing about the potential for that coporate industry.

SAMPLING : No problem.

one word, or more...something you saw...felt....

I have enjoyed the marriage of Hip-Hop & R&B..and MORE catagories.

MAINSTREAM : Over Analyzed.

45157, ^but they ARE Def Jam artists

guess Def Jam "Left" is a moniker/faux-subsidiary/umbrella of artists under the Roots tree

thanks Dan!

can't wait for Game Theory!
n Jay aint changin their steelo
45158, from my perspective. no one is talking about def jam left
Posted by okpdan, Mon Apr-10-06 11:51 AM
The focus for The Roots is the "game theory" release on Def Jam, August 29th. As far as I know, def jam left, or whatever, is an idea that has been discussed and that people like but it doesn't seem like anyone is really thinking about it (except the fans) at this moment in time. I could be wrong but that's pretty much the vibe im getting.

Word is Quest got a label from Jay.

we've seen Motive. we've seen Okayplayer. indie is indie-major is major-big budget per project or not. expectations for the artists signed and projects produced with still be higher than that of the Motive/Okayplayer recordings.

what's the litmust (sorry, litmus) gon' be?

don't trust dem new n***s ova dere...
