Wassup everybody, I’m checking in once more. First off I would like to say thanks to everyone who has been hitting me with messages on Myspace, they are appreciated.. I have tons of emails to still read, and I answer them randomly, so please be patient if I havent responded to a friend request or email, and of course I cant answer every question. I almost never join groups, and I usually dont check peoples pages for music they want me to hear. I hope this doesn’t offend, but I have a box of demos at the crib I havent gotten to the bottom of, and you can’t imagine how many request I get to check out music. Be ambitious tho, don’t depend on my opinion to know what’s hot..I don’t always know what I’m talking about. With that said, I do check some of it out, and good or bad, if I check it I’ll respond. I wanna send some love to the kids at the Global Kids event I spoke at yesterday, they were sharp, bright and focused. Global Kids is a New York City based nonprofit that creates educational experiences that global awareness and career readiness in today’s information based world. Speaking of New York City, it has come to my attention that the Radisson hotel in Queens, as of Febuary 26, has not only evicted Katrina survivors, but is suing each family for 3000 dollars plus interest! At the time of the storm, almost 30% of New Orleans residents lived below the poverty line, and most of the black people lost their jobs and are living worse off than ever. Don’t get it twisted tho. Even though the majority were overwhelmingly poor and black, this is a human rights issue. These people have no where to go.. The corporation that owns Radisson must feel like theyve done their part as a business, and it’s the government’s responsibilty, but we know what happens when you leave it up to the administration. To evict and sue these people is evil. I’ve been all over the world, and everywhere I go on the planet there is a motherfuckin Radisson. They are not struggling. In Scandinavia the Radisson is a four star hotel! I’m sure NY is not the only city where this is happening, so I encourage you all to share stories here and get down with folks who are doing something about it. Is there a source for this? I searched on google and yahoo news for "Radisson Queens Katrina" and couldn't find any stories about people being sued. I moved my search to the web (to see if maybe there was something out there about it, as opposed to just searching through the news page), and that didn't give any information about the lawsuit.

While the eviction sounds real (especially considering that the FEMA money given to survivors for rent was starting to expire), and I was able to find some information backing that up, I'm curious about the lawsuit part.

lots of Hotels are telling the Katrina victims they have to leave and presenting them with bills because the government stopped paying for the rooms...it's sad but that shit is real. But you know, they don't like to report the kind of shit through the media.

Kweli, real talk, whatever influence you have to help facilitate a long-term solution for those families, it is needed. I got an e-mail from N'COBRA about the work MXGM has been doing on behalf of Katrina and Rita evacuees and a press conference being held April 4 in New York on the matter. I live in Houston but i wanted to know what was being done to help get evacuees long-term employment and housing, and part of the response i received was:

Thus far no effective work has been able to be done by the supporters to provide client sevices in that critical area. The most immediate crisis is emergency suitable housing paid for by the city welfare agencies if not FEMA.

As someone on the sidelines i'm not about to criticize what's being done, AND i'm thankful for the brothers and sisters lending support, but we GOTTA figure out long-term solutions or people are still gonna be living in hotels come the end of NEXT hurricane season.
