thought@work was 110 bpms
the seed was 115 bpms

i've done uptempo shit before.

and what does speed have to do with a good effective song?

the fastest song on the top 100 is 100bpms ("tell me when to go") the rest are sitting somewhere between 80-90 bpms.

im not saying "im following the marketplace" but if your answer is "we would like this if you just went faster like the other faster things out" then i would have to bring up the point that most of the shit out today that is "success" is waaaaaaaaay under this son bpm wise.

I talked to a straight hip-hop dummy who summed the Roots up
>perfectly, and I quote:
>
>"These guys stuff is all mid-tempo, it's not soft, but it's
>more like wallpaper, nothing ever jumps out, the beats are
>COOL, the rhymes are COOL...but it's usually pretty flat"

i did the "jump out" record called phrenology. again just because you got fast bpms does that mean i can just discount the other elements that make a song a success?

>I feel that that dummy spoke for once with some serious
>insight.
>He's right.
>Y'all play it a little too safe (BPM/Dynamic wise).
>You get a lil' crazy and it's like Scooby ate too many pot
>brownies (Water)

well...again. the fact that i am a root within itself is the risk. this is the tom hanks/allen iverson in his 9th year reaction. hanks is a master and after phila/big/gump/road to/ryan/toy/seattle/cast away---i mean after awhile a critic said that hanks is so good in his work that to praise him becomes cliched.

now i aint saying everything i touch turns to gold. but you also can't say that this song ranks with the filler from the Ghetto Superstar album either. and compared to the shit you dealing with now? i find it really some curious shit that im getting picked on over this.

>Now I'm really not trying to crack, cuz you posed the
>question.
>
>I remember when Late Registration came out, my first reaction
>to "Crack Music" was I would love it if "the Roots" sounded
>like this (as a band...in a room with a mic) on a track.
>
>This joint sounds like you and Kamal collaborated two
>individual pieces into a beat. Where's Hub? Where's Knuckles?,
>Where's Capt. Kirk?

so the idea of the roots fulfilling your fantasy is better than the idea of the roots making a good song?

the roots ain't made no striped down hip hop since "clones"--i mean need i make a list of "Stripped Down" hip hop? if you a "head" then you questioning why i made a stripped down jawn confuses me. that's like me asking the bomb squad circa 87 why "dont believe the hype" was slower than "rebel"/"noize" and with half the samples. i mean it aint the end of the world if mofos sit one out right? this is just a piano/drum song.

something we NEVER done before.

>If it's gonna be like that...just let Thought shine over the
>Dilla beat. That has a bassline, a dope beat, and is UPTEMPO.
>
>and I'm not trying to rake you over the coals, player.
>
>It seems you're trying to please more than one master.

no...i'm only trying to please myself.
you bring that subject up again like we aint never used a "bassline", or the drums aint knocking (if these drums dont knock to you i question the system you listening on.
and ive done shit at high speed, and ive done shit at slow speed.

>If you gotta do radio...blow radio away. This track ain't
>gonna blow radio away. This is gone Ghostface and not even be
>on the radar by the time the album drops.

what the hell yall smoking? this sounds like the "radio" attempt cause we got a girl singing the hook? the reason why SHE singing it cause if i sing it the windows will shatter! lol....oh god yall got this SO WRONG....

i am a DJ
this is 2006.

if you gonna go radio--you need to follow in the marketplace. this hip hop im tryna keep alive for yall mofos is all but DEAD in the eyes of radio.

this does NOT sound like the cousin of "the whisper song" or remotely remind you of it!!!!!
is "lean with it ,rock with it" the song you thought we were doing?
what about that chamillionare joint "ridin" that what you thought we thought we was doin?
or "oh i think they like me"? that gotta be it
or "snap your fingers"?
or that din da da ying yang song?

matter of fact...lets go to billboard:

ti-what you know
chamillionare-ridin
yung joc-its goin down
dem franchise boyz-lean with it, rock with it
bubba sparks-ms new booty
lil jon-snap your fingers
field mob-so what
50 cent-best friend

what song was we tryna approximate? the whole top 100 looks like this list. oh please don't pat yourself on the back for this one.

>I ain't saying you gotta go club single, but y'all do too many
>tracks for the "bitches" (that's that mid-tempo shit
>again)...I consider it the "Apple Martini Movement".

wow. a protest song about the state of the world executed in a way that is light years away from what anybody is doing today and you just dismiss this as us having drunk bitches in mind.

>If y'all niggas ain't got nothing that sounds like a BAND
>freaking the "jungle boogie" sample on some Bomb Squad/Dilla
>ish with Thought ripping it...then fuck it...you gonna be
>grumblin' about Gnarls Barkley eating your dinner and Andre
>and Big Boi wearing your shoes this time next year.

>I wish you'd hear me though.

eh...ok. i asked for the "argument"

and this is it?

yall really dont know what niggas is up against do you?
