43803, Game Theory Linear Notes
Posted by AK06, Wed May-31-06 02:42 AM
Word on the street is that ?uest is goin to be sacrificing his beloved linear notes in place of lyric listing. Hope this is nothing but rumours as I love reading how the song was formed and its background...
43804, nooooooooooooooooooooooo
Posted by Origin05, Wed May-31-06 02:59 AM

not the linear's.. its apart of the EXPERIENCE of listening to a new roots album.
43805, first the Fat Boys break up and now this....
Posted by kelvinmercerlookalike, Wed May-31-06 03:26 AM
43806, i can listen to the song to hear lyrics..i cant hear ?uest's input..
Posted by Mike Check, Wed May-31-06 05:35 AM
ive never once spent time readin' lyrics off a cd book like i have readin' ?uest's liners...

Detroit Music is better than yours
43807, yup ?uest said this himself

in an xxl interview i think.

someone should start a petition or something, unless theres other important reasons for not having them i really think 99% of roots fans would prefer liner notes over lyrics

>can't we just have both???

dreaming. reaching. i know.
43810, didnt tipping point have both?
Posted by Goose, Wed May-31-06 11:26 PM
but i love the liner notes it just makes me feel important that i get to know how these songs are made, and sometimes change how i feel about a song
43811, yeah, then the cd booklet wouldn't fit into the slot, brosef

i bet he'll be talking about 'the making of' either here or on his myspace page.

so nothing's lost imo.

43813, RE: eh
Posted by AK06, Wed May-31-06 07:32 AM
you're wrong brother there is so much lost, the notes in the album are part of the roots experience. Gettin your hands on the album for the first time, sitting down with your headies, a blunt and the linear notes, going from start to finish is 'the ultimate' hip hop experience.

Hip Hop isn't poetry, the lyrics should be interpreted around the beat whilst listening, (even better whilst reading the notes) so I dont need the lyrics. But to get inside ?uest's head and inside the song is something I will never be able to do (unless the roots are lookin for a new bass player?!) without the linear notes...

Yeah I'll definately be disappointed if there's no liner notes. I'd take liner notes over lyrics anyday. You can always figure out the lyrics for yourself or find them on the net.
43815, this is bs. hip-hop lyrics can be read as poetry 2. Someone could say
Posted by Menphyel7, Wed May-31-06 12:13 PM
the same thing about the music (I dion't give a fuck about you talking about it I just want to hear it).
43816, RE: this is bs. hip-hop lyrics can be read as poetry 2.
Posted by AK06, Thu Jun-01-06 03:55 AM
I agree that hip hop can be read as poetry and basically is a form of poetry, especially seeing as poetry stems from an aural culture. But the linear notes provide more than an just illustration of who played what. For example from TTP notes we find out about the extremly buzzy story behind 'Star' and how ?uest had to pump his guns in order to be able to play the 'Boom!' beat. These are things that can never be extracted from mere interpretation of the track.
43817, true
Posted by betelgeuse, Thu Jun-01-06 07:11 AM
they definitely are a nice addition to the music. the music should
speak for itself though. and i trust we'll always get notes from
quest one way or the other.

43818, will there be exponential notes?

it's good to see the "linear" notes thing wasn't just bothering me...
43820, RE: will there be exponential notes?
Posted by The1AndOnlyDJCT, Thu Jun-01-06 08:53 PM
Hahahaha, I don't know whether to be disappointed at the potential lack of liner notes, or to laugh at this.

I dont think it had anything to do with Jay but there has to be more to it then they just want to put only lyrics in there instead.
43825, ?uest is gonna start ghostwriting Jay's liner notes, n/m

But I'd sacrifice Lyrics for Liners any day. PLEASE continue to make buying the CD instead of iTuning it worth it with those wonderful liners.
43832, bad move
Posted by HighVoltage, Fri Jun-02-06 01:21 AM
u can google any song to get lyrics these days. artists know that.

cant do that for liner notes though. it should be a no brainer.

43835, they could make it an enhanced CD
Posted by violence, Sat Jun-03-06 03:08 PM
and have the liner notes as a bonus feature?

maybe video of quest talking about the songs? or showing how the beats were created in the studio?

43836, enhanced CD = less music
Posted by 58impala, Sat Jun-03-06 04:38 PM
43837, if the album isnt taking up the whole cd, it doesnt matter.

LI-NER NOTES!!
LI-NER NOTES!!
LI-NER NOTES!!

It's the only other time I read besides bills, this site, and lyrics. Sad? Yes. But so is not having Liner Notes. 2 wrongs don't make a right.
43839, Should have both, but I want liner notes instead of lyrics...
