this shit is beautiful.... this is so "big" sounding, with kirk studio work (FINALLY!) and the strings...
42731, That. Was. PHENOMENAL.
Posted by violence, Fri Jun-30-06 06:25 PM
The hook was fire. Thought was relentlessly spitting. Peedi came well (particularly liked how he closed his verse...and the way they dropped the beat out near the start of his verse was so fresh).

And the production!?!??!?!

BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING.

I. AM. BUYING. GAME. THEORY. ON. SIGHT.

edit: I think I like this better than 'Don't Feel Right' and that song is pretty dope. The band is just going bananas on here...all the changes...wowzers. The guitar riff is so jamming. How the strings come in and out? man oh man oh MAN. words don't do justice.

it's also cool how both thought and peedi hit that same mini-hook about 'we 50 cents away from a quarter where i come from' (ill line, by the way).
42732, Tight

42733, this song
Posted by Troubled Spirits, Fri Jun-30-06 06:41 PM
is like the anti-thesis of "The Tipping Point"....

so complex, so many "tricks", as ?uesto would say...

the only thing remotely like this ons TTP was "Star"...

Posted by 58impala, Fri Jun-30-06 07:01 PM
i hope to see the roots go into, only i hope the sound of the album is more bright. yeah i know its supposed to be a dark album, but ill wuold like to see a brighter funkier roots album

42746, i don't think anyone in the thread said this...
Posted by 6thSense, Sat Jul-01-06 04:08 AM
but it's my opinion, that Thought should not have spit another verse. after the hook after peedi's verse, they should've gone into some sort of change or whatever, Thought could return to maybe just say a lil' something, and then throw that outro on it, and move on to the next joint (whatever it is) on the album.

thought absolutely murdered his first verse. peedi came correct, his voice sounded good all natural, could've been brought down a lil' tho. the end of his verse was excellent.

kirk is owning that hook.

?uest, that was amazing.

Great song.

peace,

Peedi killed this shit! His verse was on point! I'm droolin' with anticipation for this album now. I remember how I first heard about Game Theory coming out in August a while back and thinking that was too far away but now that August is steadily approaching, I can't wait!
42752, dooope. i thought for a second...

This track is fantastic. Like someone else said, they are pulling out all the tricks now and it sounds great. They sound like a band again and they take this track places only the roots can go to. Thought and Peedie both kill this track thought's flow is ON POINT!

GT is gonna be an instant classic, I can feel it.
42758, This is great.

amazing, they're not trying to sound like a machine anymore, this is so fucking great, funky, the vibes are definitely strong. Roots haven't had vibes like this since....Proceed II. I love it. They need to keep making tracks like this. In that I mean with this kind of complexity and fearlessness, no more drum machine influence. This shit is just plain amazing.

fade to strings at the end???? wow.

and lyrically.... yeah.

how many tracks of the lead guitar? it's smushed in with that Rhodes perfectly, in a way that doesn't sound like any previous usage of the Rhodes that you've ever done. I will be biting that... just play it in the bottom couple octaves!!

this is epic arena rock-hop! gotdayum!

i'm loving this track...

42791, I'm late getting to this one, but I had to chime in....
Posted by Inkosi, Fri Jul-07-06 01:28 PM
This joint CRANKS!

The quick intro with the guitar and base sneaking in, the guitar just riding through the whole song, the chorus, the breakdowns during the chorus. All I'm going to say is, that's how drums are supposed to be played. Then how they let it close out with just the melody. This just made my day seem a whole lot more promissing than it did this morning. lol

Now in typical DC/MD fashion, I'll take to playing the song in my head in go-go form.
42792, woah..HELL yeah, that shit is NICE....

It's rare that I won't buy anything with the Roots name on it (Homegrown is an exception because there was a new baby on the way) but if I just needed a confirmation on purchasing Game Theory, this is definitely it. If the rest of the album sounds like this then I understand why so many folks are saying this is the most musical Roots album since TFA. Oh. My. Goodness. This jawn is hizot. ?, yo, this really could be the breakout jawn that the crew never had.

its about time people take him seriously. He absolutely kills this mixtape I have from him.

Its different from what i expected when I heard Peedi was gonna be on the album. I was thinkin it would be more like the song with Thought and Kweli, or even the Pun and Thought jawn. Im pleasantly surprised tho...
