so how were the audience reactions? They seem to dig the new stuff too?

I dont live in NY i'm in VA but I may still try to get up there and catch one of these Annex shows at the end of the month hopefully...

41849, the last i saw her was at Joe's Pub and the audience was into it!
Posted by ju_BOOM, Tue Aug-08-06 01:48 PM
41850, i was there too and i think the crowd was sorta into it.
Posted by Keiko, Tue Aug-08-06 06:39 PM
i personally felt the crowd was a little lame. But that could be because the music was much more rock oriented than jazz/funk/r&b.

the dude on the electric guitar got alotta shine

i'd say 60/40 in favor of the rock vibe...maybe the crowd was expecting more funk?

41851, i love what i've heard of the new stuff...
Posted by Voodoochilde, Tue Aug-08-06 09:07 PM
i heard the set they did in Rome...and yeah, the guitarist (Mike Severson) is FIERCE....
41852, ^they rocked tonight!!!!!!

i need details man...more details....

i'm THIS close to making the trek up to NYC next week to catch the last show on Monday Night...THIS close i tell ya...

...asking to take a few days off from work...and if i can just GUARANTEE that i can get tickets BEFORE i make the drive then i'll be good...gonna call the venue today...

...now come on with the DETAILS dude...
41854, lol...okayokay...
Posted by ju_BOOM, Wed Aug-23-06 09:11 AM
doors open at 9
$10
nice small venue, drink prices are reasonable, crowd is not 'industry' or too hipster-ish, very into the music, no one's yelling out 'play such-n-such -hit/fave song-!'
dj played before she came on & between her set break
show starts around 10ish
nite i went: no percussionist or bkgd vocalist
she does mostly new, unreleased songs, only recognizable one i heard was 'free my heart'
some songs are rock-like, all are funky, some she does vocals on
of course, stage lights are low but you can still see the band
no flash photography (nite i went: some1 did flash, m'surprised Me'shell didnt stop the show but she was coverin her face with a hoodie)
it seemed like they (her & the band) were getting the songs down for upcoming shows/recording because there was a bit of conversation/communication during&after the songs melody changes/bridges/etc but still putting on a show at the same time

41859, i think they've gone onto stage between 9-11...
Posted by Voodoochilde, Mon Aug-28-06 04:59 PM
...i think someone posted in another thread that at the Annex gig they went to she went on stage at about 10...

if i was in NY i would definitely not miss it though...but then again i'm a junkie for her shit...
41860, i went the first night
Posted by Damali, Tue Aug-29-06 09:20 AM
i got there at 9, they opened the doors at 10 and she didn't perform until a little after 11. If they made it earlier for the other 2 nights then that's great...

41864, RE: NO FLASH PHOTGRAPHY! & STAGE LIGHTS LOW!
Posted by Voodoochilde, Tue Aug-29-06 05:51 PM
FYI: that flash restriction is there for medical reasons, so folks DEFINITELY need to abide by that rule when attending a Meshell show at night.

Yeah, i could not get time off from work so i missed out on this one...

If anyone who went wants to help a junkie live vicariously through their experience by providing some detailed impressions of the set it'd be be appreciated.
