I just got an email that the Roots will be performing in LA this year for halloween. they are gonna be at the Avalon tickets go on sale today at noon.

37.00 for the tickets, 10.05 for the privilege of buying them.

I am not going.

Yeah, I want to drive up from San Diego to see the show but that convienience charge is the deciding factor since I was teetering. When there is a show in SD I can usualy buy the tix at the venue to avoid the charge but that is ridiculous. Oh well, I have seen them three times since June so I will wait for the next show...

I was gong to drive up and just buy them and visit Amoeba, but The Avalon does not sell tickets at the box office until the day of the event.

These tickets will be gone well before that.

Maybe not since there are two shows and the other one has been on sale for awhile...

halloween is on the tuesday this year.

1)I paid over $20 dollars in BS charges. I don't know the profit margin for Ticketmaster, but it has to be near 300%.

2)Hollywood will be too crazy for my newly slightly agoraphobic self - so I'll be on Valium :) (Got to get a prescription from my doctor next week.)

3)Vegoose is Halloween WEEKEND. That means the weekend before Halloween.

4)Stepin Fetchit's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is on the same block as the Avalon. it's up Vine about 8 stars. Just past his star there is one for Marlon Brando.

5)The Mitch Hederg Comedy Central Presents special was filmed at The Avalon (when it was The Palace.)

6)I saw Devo perform at the Palace the night (actually two nights) they recorded their live album "now it Can be Told" on 12/9/1988. That was the first time I ever drove up to Hollywood, the first time I ever *met* Devo, and the first night i worked (very briefly) for the merchandise company that was doing the Devo shows.

Just got my tickets, $100 is a lot of scratch for two tickets to a show, but who am I kidding, I would probably happily pay more. Should be a great show - hope it lives up to the one at HOB in June because that was my best show out of 20 or so Roots shows I have seen!!!

I am sad to say I will be attending this year's shindig.... I have gone the last few years....

Their Cali shows probably aren't sold out because they are playing two dates at the Avalon. So now that I've got my ticket I'm really hyped about seeing The Roots especially after watching them perform at the HipHop Honor show. I'm really loving Game Theory so I can't wait to hear some of the songs live. It should be a good concert especially since it cost me more than $50 at Ticketmaster to buy the ticket.

The Oct. 30 date is sold out. I talked to the folks at the Avalon and they said the Halloween show would likely sell out as well. I hope it does. I was planning on going to both and since the first one was sold out I bought extra tix to the Halloween hoping to trade. Now I am not going and I just want to unload these extras. If it sells out I can at least get my money back and maybe a free couple of beers too...

Anyone know when The Roots are scheduled to take the stage??

i think doors open at 9? So maybe 10, i remember a few years ago the show was at midnight.

Emily King opens at 9p.m. and The Roots follow.

They expect The Roots to take the stage at 10 or 10:30pm. I asked specificly if they think it could be as late as midnight and they were almost certain it would not be that late.

Roots killed it last night. Everyone, band and fans, was out in fine fashion and did L.A. proper. They came on around 10:00, played for over an hour, paused, and then encored for what seemed like another hour. I will assure that no one going tonight will be disappointed with either the set list or *special* guest. Enjoy the show tonight and be safe all.

what am I missing??? I almost bought a ticket yesterday for the show!!! I didn't do it... I am so busy and I did not want to fight with traffic....who was the special guest....I cannot wait for the reviews...

Who did the guest appearance last night? Skillz came on Monday night and had me off my shit. From that appearance alone, I can think of VERY FEW contemporary emcees who can and do speak with as much relevance and integrity as he does.

I had it my head that Ms. Badu was def coming on for "You Got Me." I guess it was a little early for that kind of Christmas present. Man, if she came on last night...

but its like... the best show of the year and shit.

roots killed it, but to be honest the costumes were just too random. was i missing something? the last two years they all had pretty good themes. the rundown:

gotta admit that quest had my dying the whole night speaking in that soft ass pm dawn voice and constantly doing the open hand thing that pm dawn did. way to stay in character. quote of the night would have to go to black thought: "someone should dress like krs and throw questo off the stage. that's classic hip hop"

as far as setlist, i couldnt run the whole thing down for you, but the game theory joints sound DOPE. the first verse of dont feel right... woooooooooooo

Emily King was dope. I fell in love with her after her preformance and wanted to marry her. Great voice and songs.

Roots hit the Stage as the various stages of Hip Hop.

Hit it off with so serious jams from GT, did some great classics.

Highlights:

Hubb's solo man he was OJ'n the bass, had the crowd covering their ears and shit but it was too dope.

Cap Kirk's Solo was ill, it was like he was in some kind of trance.

Quest and Knuckles was seriously dope and then when Kir and Hubb joined in that was good fun.

Kamal was smoking on the keys as well.

But my favorite highlight was :

After the show Kamal and Knuckles started signing peoples stuff and all and this one bitch (and she was a bitch), Was asking Kamal to sign an shirt and he's like "Yo I need a pen, You got a pen?" this went on for like 10 mins then, The Bitch calls Kamal Malik. Thats where it was just funny as shit cause Kamal is like awww fuck you for a cool min, Telling her "You want me to sign your shit but you don't even know my name, I ain't Malik , Malik ain't been with us for a min." So he goes on to sign some more stuff and this bitch is just constanly bugg'n the shit out of him asking for other members to sign her shit and Kamal is like "Ain't no one else coming out here to sign ya shit", so after another ten mins of her bothering him still he tells the security dude get her out of here.

Shit made my night, fuckin fair weather fans....

Other than that good show and big ups to the ROOTS for putting on another great show.
