I think the competition really lies between Kast, Chamil, and Roots...I think Chamil, got the edge though....that song was everywhere

I never knew this fact, so that means that best hip hop category is when 51%+ is mostly vocal singing and in the rap catgory it's more rap then singing?

This would make alot of sense, but who actually goes through albums listening for 51% of singing/rapping?

I dont htink so, because this IS best rap album. The VOCAL is just vocal, doesnt matter singing or rapping, I dont even think there is a hip-hop category, just rap, ur thinking VMAs or something
40191, Wow...I like their chances....
Posted by money green, Thu Dec-07-06 01:00 PM
Luda? no.
TI? no.
Pharell? no.
Lupe? hmmm...probably not for his first one...

I'm bettin' they get some "lifetime achievement" votes.....and that that Dylan performance and the rave reviews that followed it get them the trophy.....

this'll also give them a big sales push....hopefully

Very good chance of getting rap album.
I think that Riding dirty will get the best rap performance.

40195, They might have a chance in the album catagory....
Posted by phemom, Thu Dec-07-06 01:16 PM
Through I see T.I winning that through, "Ridin" is gonna win in the single.
40196, LOL @ all these fools thinking the roots are gonna win,
Posted by sweeneykovar, Thu Dec-07-06 02:23 PM
its THE GRAMMY'S and yall are talking about progressive, smart Hip Hop beating radio...haha
40197, you know, the roots have won a grammy already
Posted by rick, Fri Dec-08-06 10:21 PM
it's not impossible.
40198, for their most commercially viable song ever
Posted by Iltigo, Sat Dec-09-06 11:23 AM
nothing on game theory sounds like anything on radio.

its way way left.

but the thing they have going for them is the industry really digs game theory. their peers really dig it and they've been getting upper crust props all year. it might help since those are people that vote.

this aint the people's choice awards or mtv or billboard.

becasue of that they actually have a shot....maybe

but you got me really wasn't financially viable.

i think it ascended to #11 on the hip hop charts. and tfa didn't even come close to going platinum did it?

now.
40201, in a year with no Em or 50, this is their best chance. congrats!
Posted by dgonsh, Thu Dec-07-06 02:28 PM
though i think they shouldve won for all their nominations in the past, they were always up against grammy fave's. it just is. this year, the only one i could see getting grammy love for some strange reason is surprisingly Luda. i know its weird, but something about Crash makes this guy seem like the academy would recognize again. too bad.

but of all years, this is it. for their best release since TFA. fitting. i will be watching, solely for this award. cause the rest of these categories are bullshit.
40202, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY !!! If Luda wins I'll be PISSED
Posted by allison, Thu Dec-07-06 02:34 PM

The Roots, bitch !
40203, Its an Honor to be nominated
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Thu Dec-07-06 05:21 PM

But it chamil and TI. Roots should appreciate that folks know it would be criminal not to nominate them.

40205, When was the deadline?
Posted by Oak27, Thu Dec-07-06 07:40 PM
Cause Im thinking Jay-Z must have missed it because I think even though his album is best rap album callibur hed be nominated just because, well, hes Jay-Z
40206, I'd love to see The Roots win but
Posted by Midtown Records, Thu Dec-07-06 09:05 PM
I have a feeling TI will take this home.

Who the Fuck cares, non-hip-hop hollywood types picking a best "rap" Album or song.... Why do we constantly care about what these fools think about our music. Game theory was the ONLY album I bought last year, Hip-hop or otherwise... THE ROOTS Won in my book... GAME OVER. FUCK A GRAMMY, I'll be listening to Game theory for years(God willing), I don't listen to that other Jigaboo crap if it even comes on the Radio.
40208, if the roots win, it's extra promotion and sales pick up
Posted by justin_scott, Fri Dec-08-06 01:08 AM
even if only slightly. they would be talked about and reported about more than when the album came out. think what you want about the grammys, but if you loved the album, cross your fingers and hope they win best rap album simply for the attention. and let's be honest: all this "fuck the grammys" talk is so stupid. most people know they'd love to win one (or oscar or MVP, etc).
40209, RE: if the roots win, it's extra promotion and sales pick up
Posted by tonytoca11, Fri Dec-08-06 01:27 PM
Honestly we should all hope for them to win. We ALL KNOW the Roots deserve the Grammy nod so why shouldn't they get it. I mean yeah they don't get the commercial push that most of these others do but hopefully someone in the academy can recognize the quality aspect since thats what the Grammys should be about. Otherwise just give the stupid award to the album with the most sales and be done with it.

what's wrong with Luda?

Y'all do know the Roots have a Grammy already, right? 1999 they won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "You Got Me." It's not like being recognized is some sort of big breakthrough for them. They've been nominated three times before and have won one.

It'd be nice to see them get Best Rap Album, though. I've never really been one to care whether or not the musicians I listen to get recognized, but The Roots have been working at it for so long and make such good music they deserve the award more than anyone else. I don't think any of the other albums mentioned, including Lupe, even come close to Game "Therapy."

BTW, Mos got a nomination as well for Best Rap Solo Performance. Surprised nobody's mentioned that.
40212, for what its worth...

that album pretty much went platinum. i cant say that was a direct result of winning the grammy, but im sure it didnt hurt things.

If The Roots or Lupe Fiasco win Ill be happy especially with Game Theory. What did Mos get nominated for?
40214, RE: if the roots win, it's extra promotion and sales pick up

Mos got nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance for Undeniable. Is that even a single?

If grammy academy (whoever the hell that is) had some sense and knew the Roots had a knack for live performances theyd ask them to play. I feel a good performance, like that at the Dylan tribute, would be huge. One can hope.
