that's what i was going for in my message below; you said it much better and more concise (i was using band analogies).

for the record though,

i used to think this too and i've still not received confirmation either way (submitted tracks or replayed/retouched tracks) but after a while it just seemed like the ones credited solely to other producers CAN'T be not performed by the roots at all. most if not all of them you can hear organic instruments (in addition to drum programming and some sampling) if you concentrate. they really Kid A'd it up though, blurring the lines between band and electronic artist (or hip-hop producer which is often similar) and i think that's cool. maybe they're more of the hip-hop radiohead than outkast are.
