He's gotta know that this music still is heard by fans, so to me there is no excuse to come this wack on an album, especially when you are so f*cking talented. Without any knowledge of what's really going on, how are we (the fans), supposed to know that dude has label problems.

Even if I hear a legit explanation from Mos himself, out of principle as well as the ridiculously high standard of producing excellent music that Mos Def has set for himself, I'm just going to assume to he fell off.

This is hip-hop, I don't care why you made a wack album, if it's wack Mos is wack. This is not to say that he can't come back and redeem himself a la Esco after Nastradamus, but you can't disappoint your entire fan base and then say it is the labels fault. Be a professional, make quality music, maintain your fan base and don't make excuses.
