to me it's about familiarity. when I listen to a song by Kweli I don't think "Ok I should expect this or that in the lyrics or styles" but I know that if he's being true to who he is as an individual artist then the familiarity will shine through. I think it's a natural thing too...it's your enviroment, whats goin' on, who u hang with, what your into etc. it should all be within your artistry.

if Kweli were to set out to try to please a certain audience by only rappin' about this cliche or conversely rapping about everything to prove he's the best to a certain group of fans it wouldn't be a natural process in the song writing(or his life). artists need the time & freedom of flexibility to grow. I'm glad dude gets it. always been one of the dopest emcees.
