Posted by TotalRequestloveLive, Tue Aug-15-06 09:09 AM
Please man, don't apologize- you gave me an ipod- it was well worth the wait. Besides, without the delay, this new stuff wouldn't have made it.

I don't know how to say this without jocking you, but if I could choose anyone to give me 60gb of music, I'd be hard pressed to choose someone better. So the fact that I actually have access to all this incredible music (and that cam'ron song) kind of blows my mind. Thank you again man. I actually have a return gift coming to you, but I need a little time.

In the first of many questions, I gotta ask you... what in god's name is that enrique iglesias song? That shit had me paralyzed. And what's the origin of that Charlie Murphy beat.

I've got a lot more to say, but I gotta say below the radar at work.

peace,
Total...
37606, hmmmm
Posted by 15, Tue Aug-15-06 09:31 AM
enrique-i had a monitor engineer who was in a network of engineer's who would trade stories and whatnot (if only i could make him post about his anita baker/luther nightmare stories) anywho there was a cat who was going to get canned from the enrique camp and so he decided to make a track of just enriques HORRIBLE ASS vocals (when you lyp synch you can sing however cause aint nothing going out the speakers) but this dude knew enrique would still "sing" on top of the recordings---and when he got canned he sent it everywhere---including howard stern in which enrique surprisingly owned up to it.

as for charlie i signed a confidentiality agreement (i admit i let that one slip---majority of the year was omitting the things other artists didn't want me to share)

but i think i can leak stay tuned next january on comedy central for the answer to that one,

and god damn is it a hilarious answer.
37607, this randy watson shit is rediculous
Posted by TotalRequestloveLive, Tue Aug-15-06 11:20 AM
At first my dyslexic ass just glanced over it thinking it was Reggie Watts, but damn. I'm listening for the first time right now. I assume this "BEdeas" stuff was intended for Com right? Any story there? The Chapelle shit. The AL GREEN shit. Man. This is really good.

but you can't always get what you want..
the card that came with my autographed t-shirts hinting for me to "not go out and buy Game Theory" cause i had "another prize coming soon"
I just hope that the J.Period Best of the Roots cd is included in that prize also...
37621, the plot thickens
Posted by TotalRequestloveLive, Tue Aug-15-06 08:23 AM
I had to run down to NYC on Friday afternoon so sorry to leave you hanging on the details. There's still more info to come, but I'm at work so I gotta keep this brief for now.

The iPod.

Black, 60gb Video iPod, fully loaded with music. No videos on this thing- it's all music and album covers. All but 35mg is full(!)

The Music.

I don't even know where to start. So many Roots goodies. Tons and tons of Dilla treats. So many artists that I've never heard of. Some Nas tracks that somehow I haven't ever heard before. Jay auditions. Rare SV. Prince for weeks. (Literally... ?uest has a problem) D' outtakes. DJ ?uesto dj sets/mix tapes. Classics upon classics upon covers of classics being sampled to make classics. Crash Cuts. Jazz. Comedy routines. New Q-tip. Charlie Murphy made a beat. Samples. Breaks. Concerts. Drums. Esoterically labeled mixes and songs. Candid photos. Classic Jamaican shit. Phone Messages. Promo versions. Interviews. I'll brag more when I have time to do this justice.

I'm at work so bare with me

I regret to inform you that due to the asinine Leech-like Wall Street-ified employee handbook
That plagues my iPod post...
You'll be unable to witness the miracles that ?uestlove created

Unfortunately, I have to leave you with this...

37648, RE: just a couple of goodie would be great.
Posted by schuylerxc, Wed Aug-16-06 09:14 AM
You know, as much as we all would love to hear this stuff, it's straight treasures on that iPod, in a way I respect the prize nature of it, that ?uesto made it for the one winner and it stays that way, keeps the shit special.

In another way, holy shit I want to hear some of that.
37649, you better rip that ish
Posted by neighbahoodP, Wed Aug-16-06 09:24 AM
i dont know about the new video ipods,
but i have the 20gb one and it has locked up on me a few times
and needed to be restored and i lost all my music.

are the new ones better with that?
apple replaced my ipod 3 times.

rip it and keep that on your itunes so you never lose it.
37650, but if you have your shit on iTunes, even if your iPod craps out
Posted by lyricistfan, Wed Aug-16-06 09:56 AM
you still have all the music

I dont care if dude shares the music, but he needs to back all that shit up on ext hard drive or something, just in case
37651, HOW
Posted by TotalRequestloveLive, Wed Aug-16-06 12:00 PM
For me to be able to enjoy this thing, I need to back it up because right now it feels like such a burden, like every time I turn it on I'm getting closer to the final demise of all these songs. How can I SAFELY ensure that this shit won't be lost if the ipod craps out?

37652, you have options:
Posted by rick, Wed Aug-16-06 12:36 PM
1 you can just buy a new laptop (this is actually a great time to buy, prices are super cheap because they are all competing via return to school sales). and just drop it all on the hard disk of the computer.

2 you can buy a .mac account (or any online storage service) and store it all online.

3 you can not worry about any of that shit, just let me pay for shipping (plus a generous handling fee for you of course, my good sir) both ways, and i'll make an online account for you. i wont even look to see what's on there, i promise.

:)
37653, I'm saying though
Posted by TotalRequestloveLive, Wed Aug-16-06 01:06 PM
I know how to store it all. How do I copy it TO storage safely?
37654, I am not too innanet savy
Posted by lyricistfan, Wed Aug-16-06 02:01 PM
that might be a good question to ask in High tech.

btu I know there is some software that can rip stuff from an ipod to a computer or harddrive
37655, another way
Posted by 58impala, Wed Aug-16-06 02:06 PM
im assuming it is the 60 gig one, so go buy a 80 gig hard drive from tigerdirect (they have a ton of rebates all the time) and buy a external hard drive case. shouldnt cost more than 100 at the max

they are easy to but together its just a couple of screws and 2 internal plugs. inbox me if you have questions, i have 2 external hard drives just for music, so i have been through it all.

then use a program like anapod:
http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/index.php

to copy it on your hard drive you put together
37656, how
Posted by budz4zo, Wed Aug-16-06 02:26 PM
>I know how to store it all. How do I copy it TO storage safely?

personally, i use XPlay with my iPod.
It makes the iPod act as a mass storage device.
ie: it will become a drive under My Computer.
then you can just copy and paste from there.
i know there are other ways, but thats what i use
37657, I'm still researching the best option for you.
Posted by Invisiblist, Wed Aug-16-06 03:21 PM
Something else that just occured to me.

DO NOT PLUG IT INTO A COMPUTER UNTIL YOU GET SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO NOT ERASE EVERYTHING ON IT ACCIDENTALLY.

But I know you already are concerned with the safety issue, so I'm double checking all the software that I'm looking into to make sure that what I advise you of works out like it's supposed to.
37658, just go here:
Posted by rick, Wed Aug-16-06 03:51 PM
http://www.tucows.com/Windows/AudioVideo/Audio/AudioUtilities/

there's lots of programs that will allow you to do what you want quickly and easily. you just need to figure out where to keep the files, since you have no pc.

the one the guy above mentioned sounds good, and ipodcopy is supposed to be pretty good also.

but for real? don't even sweat it homey, just throw it over to me via usps, all expenses paid for by me. i'll have that shit back to you in no time homey. no fuss, no muss.

Posted by lyricistfan, Wed Aug-16-06 12:51 PM
you def need a computer though, i would have at least 2 backups of all that shit
37661, you could back it up on like 20 dvds if you wanted
Posted by msclman99, Wed Aug-16-06 06:42 PM
but i'd do the external hard drive, personally

BUT if not, please share with us specifically and unreleased dilla/SV/D'angelo/Roots. I mean I know the whole of Okayplayer would kill for anything of that sort. I mean perhaps just 100-200 mb of extra special cuts. It'll get everyone off ur back too.

Oh and I agree with others when they say back that up onto an external hard drive - if that all gets lost I think I'm gonna cry, let alone u.

37677, hey, congrats bro

i'm glad you got your reward. back that shit up on a computer or cd, share if you like, and enjoy that shit. got my prize in the mail a few days ago (no ipod, but oh well!) i'm crossing my fingers that there'll be another roots contest someday soon; each one i get a little closer to winning!

Plug that thing into a computer with iTunes and then File> Print> select Song Listing> Theme:songs > print it out. Scan all the printouts and then just post the whole library of songs as scanned pictures.

...is this dwele shit? I'm talking about the barrington levy shit, if you can call it that. Truely hilarious. Can you shed any light on that? The only thing better is the Barry White blooper. How have I not heard that before? You hooked it up man, this is amazing.

and that Bad/Rockit mash up is CRAZY. Thats the only mashup coming close the Marvin/What they do joint. I love that you have that on Illadelph Halflife like that too, I forgot about that one.

Does anyone remember, did Krewcial hook that up, or did he just make the "VooDooized" version of Marvin? Damn I wish I still had my laptop for stuff like that.

thanks again

yeah I wish my laptop was working, i'd look it up. I must be thinking about the voodooized shit that Krewcial did to Marvin. That was crazy too. It was all stripped down and the horns sounded like hardgrove and shit. I could have swore he did the What They Do mash up too, but I guess that's just expecting too much from dude.

the mashup wasn't me, I think an Italian poster made it.

the Voodoo treatment I gave What's Going On was my work indeed, based on the original multitracks (Quest should have a copy of them by now I think, if not he'll have 'm end this month when passing here).
37684, i'd love to hear what you did to the track
Posted by betelgeuse, Mon Nov-13-06 05:39 AM
any chance you can throw it up here?
37685, So, realistically, is there any chance of seeing the library of names?
Posted by phenompyrus, Wed Aug-30-06 05:47 PM
All I want is to see the list if I can't take part in hearing the shit.
I don't think that is too much to ask.

See post 91.
37687, Just Fedex it to me, I'll post those Roots files
Posted by handle, Wed Aug-30-06 06:53 PM
Seriously, Fedex it to me and I'll back it up and share whichever files you want me to share.

I'll Fedex it back with a set of disks from it.

And all I'll get is some wonderfully rare music.

It's a win-win.
