Opinion is opinion, but I'm siding with you.

sorta sounds like him and of course this demo can be just that, a demo sketch that is simply an idea.

i personally think its a shame that there is all this hype around it like its really some ill shit. the music is cool and I love (really) Voodoo and Brown Sugar. I would love to have new music from D' to bump this summer. I'll wait for the real shit to drop.

you ever heard some of ?uest's impressions. im just saying, despite the music being cool and us all wanting to hear D, this track is DOO DOO. It might turn into something cool but right now, it aint shit.

The timbre of the voice, the melodic ideas, the way the harmonies are stacked are all distinctly D.

D is distinct, so it makes it easier for someone to impersonate. If you asked me to put 100$ down I would say it is D. I am just being devil's advocate while pointing out that it is April, ?uesto is known to play April fools, he did water mark the song saying it was his exclusive while also saying that you didnt get it from him (which is funny in itself), and the vocals can barely be discerned. I mean, how bad would ?uesto have gotten all of us if this was April fools.

At the end of the day, I stand by my opinion that this track is nothing to get excited over simply for the lyrical weirdness. Yes, D can be tough to understand and that's part of his freshness, but let's be serious.

I on the other hand base me like and dislike of music on feel and sound and barely pay attention to lyrics. I wish lyrics meant more to me, but they just dont. I'd rather have someone speak nonsense and make it sound great (see Sigur Ros' () album), than have someone sing the answers to the meaning of life in a manner that was bland. Don't get me wrong, to have both great feel/sound and great lyrics is great, but for me this was more about the sound of it.

Another thing that makes me think this is legit and not a joke is the guitar. Russ Elevado said that the new D stuff focuses more on writing with the guitar. *shrugs*

But alas, this is indeed a post about lyrics, so I'll respect that and move on.

but I'm talking about cats looking for words or complaining about the lack thereof to a song that's clearly a rough demo.

Maybe, just maybe, we were listening to an incomplete song and we couldn't understand him because there weren't any lyrics yet. I know a lot songwriters, myself included, that write the melody before the actual words. So he could've just been tracking himself to get the melody down before he went back and wrote lyrics.

also, i am playing devil's advocate saying it could potentially be a joke. i have yet to see anything factual about this demo other than that ?uest played it on the radio in Australia while noting that ?uest loves his April Fools pranks. I've never seen a rule that says April Fools has to go down on April 1st. Chances are, my April Fools theory is totally WRONG. I'm just saying, shit seems like a joke to me. ha

Didn't ?uest mention something about the Al Green sessions going this way, where they'd sketch out an idea with rough vocals that had no, or very few words. I wasn't creaming my pants about this, but it was cool to hear the track. I'm always interested in the process of getting to the final product.

I can't see ?uestlove pulling an April Fools joke, long after April Fools day, on an Australian radio show, and then telling us all to keep quiet about it.
