gotta say ive never been one for greatest hits compilations - either i have the albums already or want to have the actual albums / pieces of work that are an artist's statement....but seeing how thats exactly what this is given the work that was put into it (and all the goodies) - this will be my november b-day present to myself

since i moved to ny, whenever the roots come on the ipod it always feels like home!

Posted by rons1ne, Wed Oct-19-05 01:49 PM
?uest, i noticed the deceding order of the track numbers? is this final, or would you be continuing from where ttp left off?
33888, RE: track # listing
Posted by BrklynzFinestPR, Wed Oct-19-05 02:58 PM
If he were to continue from TTP, only new or unreleased stuff would get new tracklist #, the rest would get their original tracklist.. at least thats what I am assuming. A declining track list for these two cds would be a lot easier and less confusing to the new fans.
33889, RE: track # listing
Posted by rons1ne, Wed Oct-19-05 03:56 PM
good point.

maybe the decending order is like a 'countdown' until they're off of geffen.

haha. anyhow good lookin'.

Far superior than the album version of Hypnotic. Still looks hot to def though. Definetly gonna cop.

.....
...
...

...

0. Din Da Da
1. The Roots is Comi
2. Pass The Popcorn
3...

i see this as a cheat sheet.

like the ultimate roots mix cd--

gives you an idea of how vibey we were: (proceed 2), how young and dumb we were (it's comin live), how real hip hop we were (clones), neo (hypnotic), judgemental (what they do) cutting edge (you got me), strict in rehersals (lesson 3's birth is on there), lyrical (yall know who),corny but cute (good music), horny (break you off....and yes you guys will love this version), on point with the interludes (phonte says QUOTE: "this may be yall best opening intro/lude since tfa"---i agree....but of course i had help from a friend on this one so it was a no brainer) and of course smart (when i turned in the liner notes...the stories alone took up about 70something pages....i think the "Mrs"--who designed it---used a .00940043 sized font)

the die hards will love the sound quality of having clean ass versions of the shit they booted.

toilet readers will love the liner notes

newbies just make learn to love the roots

and then may they complete their collections to then discover the highlights yall say is missing from this collection.

yes...water would be a highlight.

but it serves it purpose on phren.

if i put ALL the highlights on this....

then it defeats purpose

this is to get you curious and satisfy.

is that "Sacrifice" from Peterson in CD quality ???

rocking the ripped mp3 daily.

btw, next week I'll have some Marvin DVD's (one docu, one concert) from his Belgian period early 80's (right before Sexual Healing, check my avatar), straight from the director of the docu (who apparently knew Marvin back then). I asked Brain to tell you, I'm making copies for D and you. Inbox or e me about how to get them directly to you if you read this (if not I'll find a way via Brain).

this comp is going to feature ALTERNATE versions, stuff we DON'T already have, and TONS of liner notes!

i'm so frikin sick of all these tired ass brainless collections of shit even average fans already have, minus the rest of the good shit, plus 2 "bonus" tracks that wind up on every website in existence beforehand anyway. and nothing to read.

PS: if you have a minute, go read the VIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! thread.

>(phonte says QUOTE:
>"this may be yall best opening intro/lude since tfa"---i
>agree....but of course i had help from a friend on this one so
>it was a no brainer)

My quick thoughts on Homegrown:

-That intro is one of my top 5 Roots interludes ever.

And the thing that's so heartbreaking/melancholy about that shit is listening to it, and then thinking about that artist's current situation.

-One deduction comes because "Sacrifice" was my LEAST favorite song on "Phren," and I personally woulda went with "Complexity." I still say that joint is like y'alls 17 Days.......the hit that never got its credit.....

-ANOTHER deduction comes courtesy of Silent Treatment.......you mean we couldn't get ANY of the 12" remixes? The Beatminerz joint? The Kelo (?) produced joint with the horn loop? The Black Thought "IwantIwantIwantIwantIwantIwant..." shit? C'mon, man! Shame on yuh! (c) ODB

-And again, I must take my hat off to you for being so honest and willing to embarrass yourself, 'cause LB duds (although not many at this point in our careers), will NEVER see the light of day. I thought the Project Pat joint was embarrassing, but when y'all hear Thought and Elo doing their best '93/NYC/Das Efx/Carhartt jacket wearing psycho-murderer steez.....nigga.....I damn near lost it....that shit is painfully hilarious....

-And niggas will be very happy to hear a crispy, mastered version of "Quicksand Millennium".......I was mad to see this one not make TFA, but after hearing what replaced it ("Double Trouble") I couldn't hate...

-Overall, I give the joint a 4.5 outta 5. Just for the simple, ironic fact that this is one of the best Greatest Hits compilations in hip hop, by a group that only has one "real" hit. Respect due...

-And yeah.....the interludes are the stars of the show....

33912, well
Posted by 15, Sat Oct-22-05 05:46 AM
you gotta admit this is LIIIIIIIIIIIGHT years ahead of the phren "sacrifice"

(and i talk about this in detail in the liner notes)

having die hards in mind...i kinda wanted to "right" the "wrongs" with the songs that got lukewarm reception with the diehards

mainly: sac, break, and don't

i prefer these version waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay above the album jawns
33913, RE: well

You don't know how much these words exite me (no erotico). I'm dying to hear this compilation. Whether this turns out to be great or a dud(I would bet anything I own that it won't be a dud), my hats go off to you for all the hard work you have put in for all of us, and for The Roots. Peace.
