Critics have been trying to keep people in boxes since the beginning of popular music.

I'm reading Miles Davis' autobiography, and he despises critics for doing this. If he stayed in his neat, little box, the world would have never gotten Bitches Brew.

One thing that he says in the book if an artist is changing genres, one must take their time in developing a new style. Become that new artist. Don't just hop in and hop out much like the fans/musicians you envy.
