30034, 6 Degrees of The Roots
Posted by tappenzee, Sat Feb-26-05 10:42 PM
?uest and his music politician status has given this band connects that reach across the entire industry.

Try and stump Okayartist with a band, a hip hop group, an emcee, or some other musical artist that *can't* be connected to The Roots in 6 degrees or less...

OK not 2 steps but the best I could do

Slim Dusty - Australian country singer. If there are any connections I'll swallow my pride and not pre-judge Bush's next policy announcement.
30041, ok, did a google search on Slim Dusty...
Posted by tappenzee, Sun Feb-27-05 10:57 AM
I got it in 7 degrees. Might be possible in 6, but here it is:

Slim Dusty worked with Tommy Cash, who is brothers with Johnny Cash, who covered Trent Reznor's song "Hurt". Marilyn Manson appeared in a video with Trent Reznor, and also appeared in a video with Eminem, who performed "Lose Yourself" at the Grammys with... The Roots.

slim dusty > tommy cash > Johnny cash > trent reznor > marilyn manson > eminem > the roots

What's funny is that I'm getting paid for this lol

Billy Holiday recorded with Benny Carter
...who recorded with Wynton Marsalis
...who recorded with Roy Hargrove
...who recorded with Christian McBride
...who recorded with ?uest on the Philidelphia Experiment.

I'm sure it could be done in 4 but I ain't trying.

roy hargrove performed on several of the same songs as ?uestlove including tracks off of common's "like water for chocolate" and d'angelo's "voodoo."

plus, wynton has performed with christian mcbride.

We played this game a few years ago (I want to say May '01, which I remember because I was supposed to be studying for finals at the time, ha). I dominated!!! (Although I seem to remember comparing the game to crack, as it was so addictive once I got started. That is why I will stay away this time around) We got some crazy ones, like Saddam Hussein, Jack Kerouac, etc. The game was also a bit harder then, as there were fewer collabos at the time.

I'm going back to the Celts/Sixers game, before I get sucked into this madness. Have fun.
