I said unprepared
>Why come half
>>assed with insufficient speakers?
>my point exactly. although you make it
>sound like i was on some "well, lemme pocket this loot and let's roll with this walkman speaker
>system"
ummm....actually, my words don't say anything like that @ all & its simply wrong to imply that they did or that that was my intent.
>
>again this was for a movie. this wasn't a serious >attempt to join the parade.
perhaps that was part of the problem.
>my people handle my business just fine. the movie >>company perhaps was handicapped by a low budget >or something i don't know......trust me for a non >platinum/ non mtv/ non hot 97 group to last this >long in the game, you best believe that my >"business" is run in tip-top shape. (shadup >seattle, i know iknow!!)
your point? somebody failed to provide an adequate sound system in a parade the requires one & since you guys were on the float & visible party, it's YOU that looks bad...your fault or not, fair or not.
>scuse me. i saw the news that night. that shit >was absoulte chaos.
the parade always tends to be chaotic...its a carnival on eastern parkway! The parade travels all the way from the museum downtown BK to past Nostrand ave and is HUGE (hundreds of thousands dancing in the streets & sidewalks...you can barely walk). From the reports I'm hearing, most people in the parade didn't know know someone had died (how are people on nostrand are going to know that someone on Washington ave passed away (or vice versa)? I'm not even sure if the parade organizers or everyone on the float teh children were part of knew that they had passed. The man was killed after the parade was over (8pm). I've participated before & my friends son played steel pan during this parade & he did not know that children had died where he'd walked over 2 hours later. My guess is that the kids were hit, rushed to away for medical assistance & not knowing the extend of their injuries, the parade continued. Please tell me how the entire parade route could've been shut down without extreme police interference? Given the nature of the communities relationship with the police and the fact that most of the hundreds of thousands would be unaware of why they were being dispersed, how it wouldn't have gotten uglier than it already had?
>Please don't act like the attendees were >unfeeling savages..that is not the case.
>i won't go that far......but i'm gonna
>call a spade a spade.
I impression I got was that you made a negatively assumption about the crowd and made blanket character judgements. Many of my friends/fam were @ that parade & they are neither insensitive or naive...they simply didn't know.
>(re scene with the white chick) because that's >what the script called for. plain and simple. >yeah it was a tad uncomfortable but such is >life......i know you ain't tryin to
>start shit right?
Nah...were you? I simply pointed out that the negative reaction could've been anticipated and handled accordingly.
> Really, I love the Roots material
>.....as i can clearly see......
what..my dollars ain't enough?

> Now you've left a negative impression including the vibe that you don't respect your own by not being ready for one of their biggest celebrations.
>yep. fuck black people!!! you pulled me out the closet. i'd do a drive by from bari to bedstuy. congrats you pulled the sheet off me. fuck niggas and black people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how'd you do it so easily?
LOLOLOLOL...issues galore. ummm...you said that, I sure didn't Some people caught the fire hoses & the billy clubs but still use terms like good & bad hair...so what you saying? Let's not go there. I said being unprepared for that type of event leaves a negative impression, including the idea that you don't care...period. Maybe I should've thrown a maybe in there. You asked about attracting a larger black audience. Well, most people @ the parade are black (from all over including non-west indians). It seems like the perfect marketing opportunity to me...especially since you were there to work & not to participate out of some kind of interest anyway. I bought 2 DLG albums on the strength of seeing them @ the PR parade 3 years ago...and I don't even speak spanish!!!
