Conscious music is always fucked over in favor for the bullshit. That's why when it comes to new releases I really want, I try to get 'em early from legit stores (Mom & Pop operations mostly do this; on the low). When I went to FYE! (For Your Entertainment - A CD/Tape/Video/Accesories/Video Game Room/etc. store) to get the jazzies, I asked for them by name. This following conversation probably seems REAL familiar to a lot of you:
CUSTOMER: Excuse me, I'm looking for the CD for the Jazzyfatnastees?
RECORD STORE CLERK: The who?

(Nuffsaid...)
gB
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of rich players are making wack-ass music, that's the bottom line! - Talib Kweli
I listen with stylistic innocence as well as critical intelligence; I identify genres but ignore their limits... - Joshua Redman
Invest NO level of self into this system of PAGANomics... - BIG RUBE
Imsohardisoftenviagra... - $(#&%@^!*
Mofo's don't know how to think for themselves to know if shit is dope or not... - ?
For the artist who at his/her core just needs to be heard for the sake of his/her own sanity (and found some other way to feed his/her seeds): Staying underground is the only guarantee that he or she will be able to look in the mirror without feeling desperately ill. - Akiba Solomon ("Why Stay Underground", The Source Nov. 1999 Issue)
