28374, FYI: NO JAZZIES CDs
Posted by Nesta, Tue Oct-26-99 07:57 AM
To Whomever at MCA or Motive that can do something about this:
OK, so it's Tuesday and I perform my usual Tuesday ritual, record shopping during lunch. So I head on over to HMV (46th and 5th) to show the sistas some love and cop their joint even though I had an advance copy.
I walk in the store and see no sign of a jazzies album. I felt hey MCA could've did a little more promotion, you know send a poster or something, whatever. So I stroll over to the J section in the Soul music section. Well there are none there, so I think hey maybe they sold out (how nice, I'm never that optimistic), but I figured I'd check to make sure. So I go down to the Jazz section just in case there's some slow kid that works there and thought it was a jazz record. No luck.
So I go back upstairs and talk to record dude and low and behold he has no idea of what I'm talking about. Then he goes and looks at some list and says "maybe next week". I'm like trust me, the album drops today. So he goes back to his computer and tells me that he sees know such thing. He asks me to write the name of the group down and he'll order it. I abide. Hopefully,he'll follow through. I'll check in with him later in the week.
So now, I mozy on over to the Wiz which is just across the street. Again no posters or signs, but hey, the Jazzies aren't Whinteny Houston, but damn it wouldn't hurt. So again, I stroll over to the Js in the Rock/R&B section and no luck (I also checked the Ts as well). I ask the dude in that section and he has no idea of what I'm talking about. I ask him do they plan on ordering it and he gives me this "My mommy said I'm not allowed to talk to strangers" look. This guy is definitely not management material. He says they jsut get in what they get in and they don't order anything. I don't know how true that is, but no one there had a clue.
NOW, I remember when heads asked folks to go to their local store to make sure that they were planning to stock this record. I figured that two major chains like these in NYC would definitely have the record. they both carry obscure titles. I GUESS I WAS WRONG. Maybe these two stores were isolated incidents. Neither is the flagship store in the city, but I doubt it.
Has anyone in NYC copped the jazzies joint at an HMV or Wiz?
"I ain't trying to dis, but I don't be trying to fuck with Limp Bizkit" - Mos Def
