27678, Historical Context?
Posted by MisterGrump, Thu Jan-13-00 07:28 AM
Yo Quez,
About the verse in question, I think Com was coming from a historical perspective in that the "false prophets", the leaders of the Catholic and Anglican Churches at the given time, condoned slavery saying that it was in order to save our souls. Being that West Africans were not Christians and the doctrine of "being born a sinner", they were able to pull it off. Regardless of the fact that once in slavery religious conversion was not a priority.
Your Uncle prolly used the wrong adjective when describing his feelings towards Com's verse.

Mister Grump
"If you possess, the ability to open someone's eyes, move masses and expand their world but you refuse to, then you have forsaken your gift from The Most High."
---Pharoahe Monch
