yo, for a hot minute in 93, organyx, buloon mindstate, and a love supreme was all i listened to- literally... especialy organix, cause the only roots stuf that existed outside of the ubiquitous live shows (street corners trocadero chestnut cabaret) was whatever scratchy ass tapes people had from freestyle sessions of riq embarraing peeps...
yo, i remember people were even wondering if the album would be any good! i mean not that we were doubting/hating, but imagine seeing pink floyd live back in 67, then copping some vinyl... be kinda paranoid about the translation...
so when it came out (i don't remember the original quantity of the pressing) it was like ghetto platinum within days... i got my copy from quest clasic jack style...
caught him gettin on the westbound el shuttle bus at the clothespin like 3am and bumrushed the bus for a copy!
yo, thems was some fun days! like riq, josh, crumbs/malik and the 500000000000000000000 deep foreign objects crew... at some shows, there were arguably as many people in line for the "Session" as there were in the audience... LOL!
PoZi (;=

i actually feel kind of hapy/melancholy about some of them days... i mean i'm 27 years old now, when we first started putin all this together i was like what 17, 18? so it's kinda strange to se the old (floyd lyric here) "ten years have gone behind you no one told you when to run..." thing goin on...
but at the same time, it's positive to be sitting here in my own crazy photojournalism world watching millions of people dig on some cats that used to literally play on south st. i guess its a feeling of some sort of confirmation of effort dig?
i mean damn- somebody was asking who Major Jackson was (he wrote the liner notes for DYWM) and i remember Major interviewing ahmir/quest just before dywm dropped and q was kinda like i don't even know if were gonna be around in ten years.... shit none of us did... not that (sadly in this urbanized world thats an unusual convo- diallo dig?) we were doom sayers, but philly is such a repressive place to be, we lived on beadies, pretzels and dreams...
so i'm effin STOKED!!!!
dig?
i even dig some of the more "negative" posts that go on- anything that stimulates the kind of conversations that i've seen on this board is cool wit me...
26461, yeah...

That is kinda crazy when the kids you just hang with blow up...I mean dayumn..after reading the doubt the boys had,..you probably flip when you read quests craziness on the D tour...but I think it just keeps you real, you know, like all celebrities are just the kid you played with when you were lil'..or the guys you babysat for growing up...or the kid on your rec league team...ya dig?
on the neg. post point..yeah, anything that stimulates convo is mad cool..but I would rather smile...that's why i appreciate the okayhumor heads that interject their twist on things others said..or posts about the good 'ol days..
much love,
kyle

on the memory tip....
so i bought dywm based on the strength of hearing Do You Want More and Distortion to Static like twice. knew they were from philly and that was it.
and when i got it, i was like, "why doesn't this shit start at 1? wtf?"
and then, i played it to death, bought every single that came out, and was in love...
came home from college one day, and i'm at sounds of market, and see an all black case that says "the roots" - wondering how a whole new album could have been dropped without me knowing about it, i was type pissed. pick it up, and there is no info, take it to the counter, and dude is like, "no, that's their first album, we only had like a hundred copies of it, blah blah blah."
not like what he said wasn't important. but, i didn't care anymore, i knew i had twelved dollars in my pocket, needed two more, knew there was only two copies left, and only had 10 minutes to make it to the pnc and back before they closed, or were sold out.
pissed, i hide the shit inbetwwen labelle and levert and motor to the closest mac machine, swing back, cop dat jawn, and was happy as shit.
now, i love my organix, and having to get it the way i did, so nobody at school could say shit to me about philly and hip hop.
shit, we need to remember those grand old days a bit more...
_______________________________________
http://www.h8r.com/diallo<;/a>

that proves my point about publicity/talent... i was at some WACK assed sports bar/booty rump shakin club RIGHT NEXT DOOR to st andrews in like july of '95 or something trying to explain to somebody who the roots were (they'd asked if they might have ever seen any of my pictures anyplace) and was gettin CLOWNED "jazz hip hop HUH?" type vibes...
the very next year, St. Andrews is busting out at the seams with the ROOTS/FUGEES/GOODIE MOB show (i was on tour wit the Fu's for VIBE) and people are just sweatin to death tryin to catch a breath of fresh air up in the spot... excellent concert by the way... i dig that spot, it's like a really tiny version of (damn i must be tired i cant remember the name of the spot in ny i'm tryin to think of... not the paladium... no the knitting factory... not webster hall... i shot tricky there... ahh efff it!)... anyway, if you saw the piece in VIBE (the summer double issue with the Fugees on the cover) that double silhouette of clef and L was in the upstairs hall outside the bathroom...
RED WINGS REPRESENT YO!
PoZi (;=

is that next time i'm at a roots show and they asks us what we want em to play next, i'ma scream real
loud i want me some POPCORN!!!!!!!!
last time we got them to play silent treatment (we were the loudest) but for some reason everyone (including us) in the crowd forgot the lyrics. Thought straight up started laughing at us. we couldn't do the chorus......
some ol' skool joints would be phat once in a while, specially since their sound back then reflected so much on their live band status. besides it'd be nice to get ?uest up on the mic once again.

peace
"Can't worry 'bout what another nigga thank, now that's liberation and baby, I want it"
-Andre Benjamin
