25972, we don't............
>On another note, it is sad that
>we keep re=performing the same old
>tired history/culture of domination and brutality
>against people of color. The
>question then becomes, how do we
>imagine a different performance of history?
> How do we move through
>history (and history through us) without
>recreating, reimagining, and reperforming it?
It's impossible to "move through history" without you influencing it,and it influencing you. That's why the griot's stories changed according to who was the storyteller. The "story" is history, and the "performance" is our impact/contribution to history. And that, my friend, is ever-changing. Kinda like how black music evolves and changes according to what's going on socially/politically. If we're complacent, the music's complacent. If we're fired up, the music is fired up (Think about the Mos Def intro). The same goes for history. We can't get past the re-invention re-telling part, cuz that's who/how we are. Sankofa: looking back in order to move forward.

"Y'all don't believe fat meat greasy!!"-my mama
