2481, 2nd Annual Okay Photographer Showcase
Posted by okayplayer, Mon Aug-02-04 08:22 AM
http://www.okayplayer.com/okayphotographers/

Okayplayer is pleased to present the second annual Okay Photographer showcase. Each month, it seems we find another gifted photgrapher in our OkayFamily. But, the F-stop's here. Every weekday in the month of August, we will showcase the work our contributors have shared. The amount of talent we continue to stumble upon since Okay Photographer's inception, has been overwhelming and some kind of amazing. Special thanks to everyone who sent in photos, reached out with inquiries and continue to support Okayplayer. I'm ready for my close-up.

To be considered for Okay Photographer Month, please email 5 of your favorite flicks to submit@okayplayer.com. Please be conscious of your file sizes. JPG is the preferred format.

If you are chosen, you will receive an email back from us with further instructions. We will be asking you to give us more information as well as to provide more photos for the gallery. Please remember that there are only 22 weekdays in August. Some of the spots are already filled for the first week. We will be repeating some of our more favorite photographers.

here's where you go to check it out...

2557, ok photographers....i have a question?!!!
Posted by vechello, Thu Aug-26-04 08:28 AM
hey....i've been taking photos for the past couple years but never had the courage to just take a picture of someone walking down the street, talking, just living life...etc. so...ok photographers. what do you do? do you ask them if you can take their pictures and ruin the live and real moment that you are trying to capture or do you just take the photo and hope they don't mind?
2558, RE: ok photographers....i have a question?!!!
Posted by buttersoul, Thu Aug-26-04 09:29 AM
It depends on the subject and the moment.
You definately can't be intimidated otherwise you'll loose many pictures like that...Of which I am just as guilty. I started getting up the nerve when I was in school and often I would tell people I was a student and it was cool, but the spontaneity is key a lot of the time and the trick to me is to get the image without someone noticing that your taking the picture. When people see a camera on them they often change their demeanor. That can be good if your staging your image or working with someone on a shoot. Some of my favorite pictures Ive taken with my little iZone. People didn't respond to it as they have with my Nikon less intimidating I think, more intimate.

But really you should read this...
Your Rights When Stopped or Confronted for Photography
http://www.krages.com/phoright.htm

so you what time it is when your out and about clicking away.
You'll find your technique, thats part of the fun of photography I think.

thanks for the advice. yeah...i'll have to start using that student excuse. you're right on about missing the moment and that's what i'm afraid of but i don't want someone getting mad for me taking their picture without asking. but, like the info on rights said...as long as it's a public place it's cool. just got a new camera so i'm gonna be out there taking a lot of pics and just wanted an opinion on this. thanks again!

hey...another quick search for some advice. i've been taking concert photos experimenting with different shutter speeds and flash differences. ya'll have any advice on what has worked best for you? i like to slow down the shutter but of course you get every little movement blurred especially when people are jumping up and down all around you. so..any advice on that? thanks for the help!

There's a few different things I can suggest that might work for you...

1st I'm gonna to need to know when your shooting concerts what are you shooting with ie: camera, film and what type of flash?

Also were in the venue are you shooting from? Are you in the crowd? up in the front by stage?

Holla!
2563, sony/cybershot/no flash
Posted by vechello, Mon Aug-30-04 05:20 AM
hey....thanks for the response just got back to check the post. i used to use a minolta/400 speed film/no flash but just recently got a sony digital camera. i've tried various settings to get the right lighting. so far i've gone with no flash and automatic settings but was thinking of switching to the manual mode so i can set the shutter speeds manually to get a better picture. just looking for some good advice and what may work for you. it's usually in a venue (first avenue) either in the crowd or up in front of the stage. (i usually travel around first avenue to get different shots) so...any advice would help me out! thanks! ps....love your photos!

...i thought the okayphotographers month was over and that i didnt make it. so just now i was reading through the news when i suddenly saw my name in bold type!

i have more or less been layin off on using the camera for the last 12 months, so this was a great recognition to get :) it's really inspirational to see your photos up there with people like vera hartmann
