...pretty sure i know what it means... some isht from the revelation of john... but i think it's a flawed statement because revelation doesn't say those are the only people who'd get to the shining city...

...more importantly... it's entirely possible that revelation isn't totally about future prophecies, but it's instead a coded communique to the christians of the era about the times in which they were living... the jewish alphabet also doubled as the jewish numerical system, so there are amazing things revealed if you look at the numerology of the book...

Don't they believe that 144,000 people will go to heaven and the rest not going to hell will stay on earth, but thatearth will be changed and will be much better? The biblical passages say that only 12,000 each of the 12 tribes of Israel will be chosen.
I'm not sure what that means. Some choose to take it literally, but I'm not sure what I think about it.

The 12 tribes of Israel (the desendants of Jacob's 12 sons)...12,000 from each tribe...multiply those two numbers to get 144,000 and that's what certain religions (Jehovah's Wtnesses, for instance) believe will go to heaven.

"G.O.D." is *easily* one of the tightest tracks ever. Cee-Lo & Com aren't overly preachy or anything, they're just dropping their thoughts & opinions on some things. And they're much deeper and more meaningful things than we're used to hearing in hip-hop (which is a damn shame).

as previously said, the 144,000 that will be redeemed at the end of the world will be 12,000 from the twelve tribes of Israel. this is not to say others have not been redeemed at sent to heaven, but only 144,000 people will be saved at the apocalypse.

The 144,000 refers to 12,000 people from each of the twelve tribes of Isreal. 12,000 times 12 equals 144,000.

The bible says in the book of Revelations in the last days, (the days before the return of Christ) a plague will be set forth unto to the earth the most horrible that people have ever seen. In that time people will be asked to take the mark of the beast. Of Those who don't, their lives will be tortured by the majority who do and they will eventually be killed but reedeemed by GOD who will accept them into the kingdom of heaven for following his ways, no matter the circumstances.

The 144,000 will be spared the tourtue, famine and other plagues of the time because they will be taken like thieves in the night to the kingdom of heaven to live with their heavenly father. These people are considered to be "saved" "Saved" people try to life their lives following the commandents of God and have accepted Jesus as their savior.

Now depending on your faith fill in Jesus and God for your most high, but same story applies. With my father being a pastor, (yes I am a PK) I heard this story many times.

i've heard this intepretation of the 144,000 too. my opinion is that its good to be aware of all the possible meanings, but in the end we'll all have wait and see the final outcome. just my 2 pennies' worth...

But my thing is, if it was really only going to be 144,000 that are going to make it don't you think they would already be chosen? Think about it......I suggest those with questions about it should sincerely ask God to give them a crystal clear understanding of his word on this matter and to read the Bible for yourself that is the only way you will truly understand it.

From my limited knowledge of the 144,000 theory supposedly that specific number will "get in" and for the rest of the RIGHTEOUS it will be paradise on earth.

But I remember hearing in freshman religion that in Hebrew numerology, the number twelve was like a "perfect" number. i.e.12 apostles, 12 tribes of Israel.
Also, in Hebrew, the number 1000 represented a "very, great number/amount." I am not a Jehovahs Witness, and I'm not disputing anyone's religion, but I think the majority of the bible is symbolic.

This would make perfect sense then in Revelations.
12,000 from the 12 tribes wold make it. That means that a "very great number" of "perfect" or at least very good, people will get to heaven.

My mother is from Eritrea Ethiopia and I was raised in Addis Ababa until I was ten. My mom was raised in the Jewish way of life. But she's a devout Christian now. Please don't take offense but she's a "Jew 4 Jesus"...LOL! I love calling her that now...all in fun. Well, I asked her and she said what most of you have said about 144,000 that will get into "Heaven", and the meek will inherit the earth...and "Hell" is said to be nonexistent.

Just a question...not a reflection of my knowings:

I just wonder if 144,000 will goto heaven and there is no hell, then what is the purpose of the 144,000 going on to heaven? I mean I know that living righteously is real, but what if all we've done is basically to live happily ever after?

I've heard Lauryn speak about her belief and she basically stated the same thing. I think its beautiful how anyone can incorporate their faiths and whatnot into lyrical prose that becomes a song that eventually touches masses of people.
