Is anybody feeling the Jazzyfatnastees the way I'm feeling them? I mean these sisters can sing. I am amazed that cats are not buying their album left and right, guess their too busy listening to that other stuff. If you don't have the album, go get it--you will not be disappointed. I assure of that. Does anybody else feel the same way?

I bought the Jazzy CD for $3 a month before it came out. I work for a major newspaper and we often have sales of promo items to raise $$ for the united way. I only bought the CD because I thought the name was cool. I was(am) pleasantly suprised. The Lie is my favorite. They have such a soulful sound. It's hard to find real soul music anymore. I just ain't feeling Aaron Hall clones/and songs with lyrics(eat you up like Reces pieces.) some call it neo soul, I just call it good music.

I believe that they were 100 times better when there were four women in the group and not two. I also belive that while their album is good I can honestly say that I haven't listened to it since the day I bought it, it's too damn depressing. I also do believe that they have bad attitudes like Whitney. They act like they are qintuple platinum and they didn't even go cardboard and granted they didn't exactly get a push by MCA but how do you psh them? What would have been your marketing scheme for The Jazzies? Before they start acting like divas perhaps they should get a few more albums under their belts and sell some units. As of right now their accomplishments are doing background vocals for many groups adding a dynamic sound to the songs that they were on(with the four of them) and two albums one of which will never come out and one that we all probably have. Granted I think that these two women have a tremendous ammount of talent but as we all know talent doesn't always sell and I want them to sell so in my opinion I think that they should take this as a learning experience and get back to the lab and put out an even better ablum their third time around. PEACE

p.s. These are just my opinions and I probably won't be checking to see what you have to say to me about this so enjoy.

wait a minute...there used to be 4?

what happened?

anyway...i like the jazzy cd, it's pretty
d@mn good if u ask me...any cd that i can
listen to from song one to the end(ten in this
case) without skippin' any, is a darn good cd.

i really like number 5...the name escapes me
right now.

go out and get this cd...try best buy because
the other stores i've been to have riddiculous
prices and i don't believe that any cd is
worth 16 dollars plus two more in tax.

but i'm broke...i don't know about ya'll.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I know you said that you won't read any responses, but I am entitled to my opinion and observances too...

I feel a need to note that although you may have come to the conclusion that the Jazzee's have attitude problems, that I don't find this to be the case. Perhaps you caught them on a bad day or something, but I think they are sweethearts. Yeah I am saying this because I know them, yeah I am saying this because they are my friends, but quite frankly, they wouldn't be my friends if the were bidelywiches...

And as for the CD, I dig it. I don't find it depressing at all. I actually find it refreshing.

Whatever, how can you sell when your album label does not promote you much at all. Who cares about what they would have promoting them as---the girls can sing. I mean, there are all of these Destiny Child's and other groups, falling into the game of singing what it selling. The Jazzees are not doing that, and that is what makes them unique. Figured you would not want to check back to see what I had to say, but people who know they are going to get some sort of feedback they do not want to hear, usually don't.

Dear Nickelz:

I know you said you won't be reading this but on the off chance that you do, I can't help but want to reply. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, as I'm entitled to my opinion of your opinions. So here goes:

Granted, our album is not a dance album, nor did we ever intend or perpetrate that it would be so. We're definitely more about thinking than dancing and if that's depressing to you, so be it. A song like "Sail The Seas" is definitely NOT a happy song, but it is a wistful, haunting, thoughtful song about a child dying before her mother. It's real. It's happening while you're reading this post.

As for the "100 times better when there were four of them" I'll say that Tracey and I never started out with plans to be a duo, that's the twist of fate that life brought. But we weren't about to let what we'd worked so hard for die. I will say that regardless of your opinion Tracey and I are a 100 times better writers and vocalists today, than we were then. That's obvious when you listen to the Tommy Boy album, remember we have copies, you don't.

I sense that you also implied that we couldn't expect much in the way of promotion for a "sub-standard" album like ours. That's pure bullshit right there. Everyone knows there are albums blowing up that are way more "sub-standard" than ours. I don't believe in good or bad music but a lot of people do and a lot of the so called "bad music" is blowing up because of one thing, MONEY.

Of course we're going to do a better album. Isn't that the point of life, to become better as people, as artists, as teachers, as parents, etc? Why you need to be reminded of this I just don't know but I suspect that you aren't old enough to have discovered this philosophy.

As far as the "acting like divas" part, I'm not even going there. Are we happy all the time? No. Are we professionals who gives our all and understand that relationships are a big part of the business? Yes. Could you have approached us on a day when our professionalism cracked due to undue stress? Yes. We're human, it happens, though I can't imagine what you're referring to specifically.

I'm responding to you because this isn't the first time that you've felt the need to make a disparaging comment about Tracey and me. So I'm defending MY OPINIONS and I don't mind if you think I'm a bitch for doing so. I'm sorry you don't like the album but you can't please everyone. Remember, if you don't have anything nice to say . . .

Maybe now he/she will think about posting something without thinking about someone's feelings. I cannot even imagine what I would have said to he/she if I was in this predicament, but you handled it well. Truly outstanding the way you cut he/she down without even sounding too raunchy. Stay up girl, and don't worry about these haters, their just mad because ya'll ain't selling out like some other female groups out there.

Wow. Nick better watch out. Tracey is NOT havin' it. Well, all I can say is that each person is entitled to their own musical tastes. Personally, I have the CD and LOVE it. My mom and sister were visiting this weekend and that CD was played non-stop cause they thought it was sooooo great.

However, calling people names (Divas) is not necessary, nor is it warranted in this situation. I've never met Mercedes, but I did have the pleasure of meeting Tracey at the D' concert a couple months ago. She was extraordinarily nice to me and my friend and took the time out to talk with the both of us. Definitely a classy lady.

That was not nice.

Anyways - if you have even met either of them, you would know that that jibber-jabber you are talkin' is crazy. Or maybe you have met them and just caught them on an off day - here's a secret - just because you are an artist w/ an album out doesn't mean you can't have a fucked up day too, ya know?

Mercedes and Tracey have never been anything but nice to me... and even when things weren't quite going as they thought they should.

As for the album - hey, it isn't for everyone. Just like DMX ain't for eveyone, Coltrane ain't for everyone, and Joni Mitchell ain't for everyone. To each their own.

i think that you are taking hiss use of depressing in the wrong light, i think he would have like more, ummmmm, love songs i guess you could say. i think that "I don't know?" i think that was the name of the song
from the hurricane sdtk., would have been the type of song nick's looking for, or something in that vien(sp?). i've talked to both of you ladies for a short minute and you showed nothing but love, I was the one at BL in san francisco singing along with you the whole night :-), but i doubt that nick would put his opinion out there without valid reason, i don't agree with it, but i don't believe he should be shot for it, or slapped for it, or whatever else you ladies can think up, and i'm referring to all the responses not the jazzies in particular, for his opinion, accept it, do what you can to change it if you feel the need to do so, or move on, but don't condemn him for it, peace. oh yeah, i did love the album, and look forward to hearing from you two lovely ladies again.

Basically, I could care less about the way he said, it was the fact that he did not takes these females' feelings into consideration. The remark about them trying to be DIVAS and getting the big head, and the whole "did not go cardboard" thing was unacceptable. You may be right about his use of depressing, but I believe he got what he deserved here on this thread----simply because he did not think before he began typing...... Still it is all love, I hate no one---I just believe there is a time and a place for something like that, and this was definitely not the place for his remarks. Something should have told him that the Jazzees may visit this thread, and he still did not try to use a more kosher way to express his feelings. :-)

maybe i'm missing something, but just as the post originated out of an opinion, isn't nickelz entitled to his opinion also be it good or bad? i mean the album had to grow in me and i do like it to say the least but that doesn't mean everybody will. we all come to these boards to share and express opinions openly without being condemned for having the courage of our convictions. i personally don't see anything wrong with someone having their opinion, it's up to every individual to take it or leave it.

I slept for a minute and just bought the CD a couple of weeks ago. The sistas are the REAL. Some of the songs sneek up on you, but when they do, you singin em in your sleep. They have beautiful voices which they lend to some funky r&b tracks. This is a very nice break from the majority of "girl groups" that seem to only sing about a man cheatin on em and how they caught them (the new love songs for the 21st century).

not only is the album live, but yall have to see these sistas perform! better than the album--so a definite testament to their growth...i think we can expect the next album to be even better and it is already good.

i like the lyrics for every cut...but words are my thang...

don't let the hater...who apparently has taken his street team status too far (ha ha tiny...you had me hollering;)...get to you.

i'd like to see trace back slap him...maybe yall could put it in a video...everybody needs at least one anti hater song....

By a stroke of the urban fate I was pleasantly suprised when my man (the blackguru) ordered my okayplayer shirt and the Jazzyfatnastees for my birthday (just a couple of weeks ago)...This album is definitely high class, the only disappointing thing that I find is that there are only 10 songs and I know that those two have more to sing than that. The two click so beautifully and fluidly that I have to listen to the album three or four times a day and even when I sleep. I am definitely looking forward to coppin the next album or video or sumthin....luv..one

I understand, but better 10 songs that you can listen to the whole way through, than 16 songs, and you only end up liking maybe 8 or 9. I love the album, and I do agree that it is a little short, but they say---"good things come in small packages." Thank God there is only 10 songs.

The Jazzies definitely need to get more love...Like others have said, I am also a fan for life. I started going to Black Lily 6 weeks ago and I have not missed a Jazzie performance yet!!

Hell they're probably sick of me standing right in the front staring in their faces and singing all the words right along with them...I even know their choreography!!! (I love when Mercedes does her "running" pose in How Sad when she sings the lyrics "You run but can't hide...")

Live music never sounded so good...

Posted by guest, Mon May-15-00 11:19 AM
The first time I saw the Jazzy's they opened for The Roots and Blackstar-Hella bomb ass show-at SOB's before it went strickly Latin, this was '97 the summer before TFA came out. They had more member's then. There was a guy I don't remember who he was but he was good.Nou sung with them and did her own song and there was Tracey and Mercedes. The band was good but those ladies defiantely stood out.I saw them again last spring at one of the first Black Lily event's at Wetlands. That night everyone thought that The Roots were going to show up bu they were pulled away by other responsibilites. The ladies held it down though,it was open mike so people got up and ripped the mike.Nou's band played-very interesting I think she is seriously Robert Plant's daughter I know he has a thing for Morrocan people and the was Nou rocks is like an old fashioned 60-70's shake it out rock.Jill Scott blew up the mike that night also,it's a shame The Roots didn't use her on " You Got Me" consedering she wrote part of the song,oh well marketing is a bitch right. But for all if you trying to diss these precious ladies FUCK-OFF.
I give respect to anyone who uses real intruments on there album's these days.DIE DRUM MACHINE DIE YOU MOFO!!!!Keep up the good work ladies.I listen to "Unconventional Ways" every day, that song is my relationship to a capital T.

Haters make the world go round,
And they also get lots of replies to their posts.
Ignore haters. For they know now what they do.
Or who they hurt.

But either way, I must add that I met Tracey and Mercedes (I don't know what your marital status is, but we'll get married sometime, in the next lifetime, maybe, but we will...)..

Mad humble, mad nice. And I loved when we had the open mic in Boston, how they cheered on the people that were singing / performing. That show was completely off the hook (especially that song when the guy w/ the glasses got on the keys and that girl was singing the female part and they sung duet... off the HOOK)...

I dig the ladies, no doubt.

wish they were the opening act for D's whole tour, because i think that since they're in the okayfam AND they're in the musical revolution's trenches (on the major label side), that they should have rocked with D the whole tour...I love mos def and dead prez, but honestly with the type of crowd D would draw (mostly R&B fans, because a lot of hip-hop heads wouldn't pay 40 bucks for ANY show), well, I think the jazzies would have fit in bettter. and, darnit, they're directly related okayfamily. rats.

remember quest v. scratch? i'm trying to hear some jazzyfatnastees v. jaguar. ;-) (you know, in a friendly way, not in a mean way) that'd be like the R&B version of "meth v. the chef". ha.

God would give to us. can you break down to me

funny you would say: a song god would give to us

because the day that song was written I felt as if the creator was using me a vessel. I didn't even have to think about the lyrics they just came out.
Maybe she was trying to tell us something.
Thank you for the support and for actually listening to the lyrics...much peace to you;-)

You'd be surprised how many people rock the jazzies... I work in a theatre, doing sound (and occasional lights) and was doing some shit up on the batons, and I always need music when I work... so I slapped the jazzies on there. There were three moments during the album's play that I looked down and saw *three different people* singing along with the cd. Naturally, I got down each time and had a conversation about the jazzies, and okayplayer and all that... the okayplayers: they're out there, you just gotta find 'me. (Surprisingly, most of them don't post)

Anyways, look closely... they're out there. (Oh, and those ladies are damn charming... easy to talk to and all that.)
