22595, Malik B - Can he borrow a dolla?
Posted by mke, Tue Jul-18-00 02:27 AM
It might be his own fault, but the M-illa-tant is rarely mentioned, even on this site. Does anyone like him? Hate him? Like the boots he wears (apparently Thought's are popular out West)? Wonder what he does for a living (it sure ain't touring)? Would you miss him if he dropped out of the group (apparently not, considering the radio blackout on him)?

Hello?

Posted by BigDOttawa, Tue Jul-18-00 03:11 AM
at the ottawa show, it seemed to a few of us that when thought brought out dice riggedy-raw, he was basically saying he was a member of the group. could it be? a switch. i mean, d-i-c-e is already part of the "crew", so it wouldn't be that much of a switch. personally, i like malik better.

Dice Raw is pretty much a member of the group. I guess that now that his solo is done, he will be able to tour in Europe with the roots when they re-form (like re-Voltron).

I doubt anybody's replacing anybody. Hell, Scott Storch is still on the extreme periphery of the group. The only person ever to have disappeared is Rubberband.

Note: just out of curiosity: where is he now? Does he regret his decision? Does he make music with other people? Did Hub eat him?

I didn't ask what he was doing for a living. He doesn't tour because the stress is too much for him, but I kinda remember him saying he was gonna start touring, but I guess ?'s negative impression of his performance at the NY Ballroom shows(?) (when they recorded for "Come Alive") killed that idea.

But it wouldn't make much of a difference to okplayer. Man, the only way he could make a splash here is by blowing his head off with a rifle. 22601, how about a light?
Posted by , Tue Jul-18-00 10:53 AM
I gave him a light once, while I was working on South Street (philly). When rolled up to me and asked and asked for a light, he was like "you recognize me?". I was like "hell yeah I recognize you, You're Malik B..from THE ROOTS"...HE proceeded to give me the 411 on their new album (this was about two years ago) TFA.

That's my big malik B story.

Yo, I've always loved Malik. In fact, no great pretender is one of my favorite roots songs. I think he is one of the few (mos-def pulled it off pretty well) that can rhyme next to THought and not sound sub-par. Apparently so does THE ROOTS considering the havn't left him off an album yet (except the live jawns).

I give Mailk two mics up!!

So did Pun ( Super lyrical ) and so does Common.
Q-Tip came off nice ( Ital), so did Kweli ( respiration remix), so did Pharoe ( lyricist lounge freestyle .......

To me Thought is nice as hell but he doesn't blow away major artists away on tracks, he just blends well with them. The only time I felt he EVER got outshined was on Superlyrical, and that's only cause that track was tailored for Pun.

but whenever Quest mentions Malik, he's like "Well, Malik is Malik." Not touring kind of sets him apart from the rest, no?

So who is left in this band? No-one knows if Hub is a part of the band. Malik is off in the woods. Rahzel, anyone? At this rate, no-one is going to show up at the end of the hiatus.

That is extremely important to this thread. Keep coming with that hardcore insider info, man. lol. But how does that relate to being in the roots for a living? Plus, ? has said that they don't make money off the albums, but off shows, so how does Malik make his? Not that I expect an answer (this question has already been asked). Wait! I make my money by doing a wide variety of jobs, cos I'm still a student. Okay, now Malik can say how he makes his.

Okay, maybe it's Americans in general. You people are funny in the sense that everyone (in the world) thinks they know everything about Americans (we get bombarded with your, um, products all day), but the truth is other. Discovering that has been funny. And interesting. And sad. And surprising. And...

I'm not a Black American, even though outside of North America, I'd probably pass for one.

Yo, I think that Malik B. is the Roots'secret squirrel or something. Damn, his lazy azz or missin' in action wanna-be has gotta be doing some musical type stuff he don't want the public to know about. His azz been chillin so long while the Roots is on tour that he should be learning to play a damn instrument or somethin' to that effect. He should be Qoolquest's main right hand man on the boards in the studio; or maybe the only actual Roots member thats online often (or at least more than Quest is). I say this to Malik B., pick up & learn to play an effin' instrument dammit!!!!! I know that Malik got some ill lyrics but it doesnt be dat dope where you can chill at home & not go on tour anymore cause you can't handle the road. Damn, Black Thought be spittin' Malik B.'s rhymes better than him when they are on tour (if you have the been to any of the live shows). Anyway, thats what I think what's going on with Malik B.

Remember this, it's either my way or hit the phunkin' internet highway.....dammit!

Peace & Chicken Grease!!!!!

Do you know what he does "sitting on his lazy ass"?

Does he need to adjust how he spends his time to fit your desires?

He doesn't need to learn to play an instrument, he needs to practice with his group so he can sound good with them live!

after you insulted him AND the African American popultation. Honey I've just interacted with several Black Europeans recently, trust me, y'all ain't all THAT free. Give me a fuckin' break. I could go on and on about this subject, especially in France, but . . . . .
In any event, Malik is Malik. You niggas got a record deal? Publishing deal? How about some shit that says you're the authority on rappers (American) and how they should present themselves?
No?
Then what the fuck is this post about?

Do you ask frickin' Yanni to quit the piano and spit some lyrics? uck no. Stop playin and being silly.

Malik's got rhymes GALORE. That nigga is liable to call your ass at 3am and spit some lyricshe just came up with.
He's on Dice's album and Flo's demo. And he's en route to his U.S.A. studio tour. Other than that, lay easy on his nuts, k?

>after you insulted him AND the

Did I insult the African American population in this post? Saying that that population has some funny habits is insulting? Sorry.

This post was meant to shine some light on Malik. The money thing was not that serious, especially as it's been brought up before. Especially as I gave out my own form of income. Did that strike you as a serious attempt at getting Malik's financial information?

>Honey

Did I say we were? Anywhere? And for the record, I'm a Black French West Indian.

As I said, it's about "lending Malik a dollar".

No, as I don't know who that is.

Did I say ANYWHERE he wasn't good? And I think he deserves a little dick-riding, which was the initial object of this post.
