MCA gave Common and The Roots more of an aggressive campaign that their previous labels, Relativity and Geffen (DGc), former label of Nirvana, Guns N' Roses, and the Geto Boys (for whom they did one album for, then went back to Rap-A-Lot-- remember the mugshot album cover with the disclaimer by the label?). Plus, Common looks a lot less intimidating without carrying the 40 oz. bottles and having gang signs in his videos.
